Topo GPS Great Britain
Why should you buy an expensive GPS device if you can install Topo GPS? Topo GPS contains all functions of a regular GPS device for less money, has a much more detailed map, and is more convenient to operate. The accuracy of the position determination is in favorable conditions about 5 m.
The price of the detailed topographic map is 0,79 £ for four sections of 4 by 4 km. You get lifetime access to purchased sections including future map updates. You can easily select the sections you need on an overview map. For large sections discounts will be applied. Purchases are made available on all devices that share the same Google Play account.

Map
* Complete topographic map of Great Britain 1:25,000, newest edition, provided by Ordnance Survey (OS Explorer).

If you are recording a route, the GPS will run in the background. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
Rdzl, the company behind Topo GPS, does not obtain in any way the location of the user of Topo GPS. Rdzl does not obtain your routes and waypoints, unless you share a route with Topo GPS. Rdzl does not register which map tiles you have downloaded. We sell our product, not our user data.

I really like this app, use with OS maps for UK to plan running routes and offline maps are geat for when actually out to check if on route or not. The route planning part occasionally goes wrong and have to reset the route and start again but no big problem. Map segments are purchased as needed (for OS mapping at least) and price wise I think is probably similar to cost of purchasing paper map. Edit Feb22: Liking the new generate feature which will generate variable distance runs 👍
More expensive than OS but without access to 1:25k maps. unable to share across devices, so I cant do planning for long routes on PC. Couldnt try it out properly without purchasing subscription so very dissapointed.
While the app itself wasn't for me, I contacted support and they were very understanding of this matter and we managed to work something out.
I tried this app as an alternative to Viewranger, and it's the best one I've tried so far. Plotting a route was very easy, but slightly glitchy as not all the paths appear to be recognized. It would be good if the position marker was larger (more like VR) as this would make it easier to see especially in bad weather conditions. Crucially, I like the way the position marker points in the direction of travel.
What a rip off. Paid for the map. Then as you zoom in on an area they charge you another 79p per area, and then another 20p for an even closer area. Unbelievable. Very disappointed . Appreciate yr reply. I have absolutely no problem paying for any app that i think I'll find useful. What i don't appreciate is the underhand tactics of then having to pay extra. If you have to pay royalties then just increase the original price don't lure customers in and then charge again. Be open and honest.
Superb app for walking footpaths in these uncertain times. My family and I have found this app brilliant in helping us discover interesting walks right on your own doorstep. Very reasonable price for each map, far cheaper than buying a map book. The little red GPS symbol allows you to know exactly where you are, and stops you from taking a wrong path. Excellent, and highly recommended!
Great mapping. Purchased tiles seem sharper and more vibrant than the Ordnance Survey apps offline maps. Latest maps download for which you get updates when available. You can purchase tiles anywhere (min 4), rather than having to buy the whole map area, a lot of which may be of no use. Extensive help, photos can be added, and a wealth of other features. So far all good.
Easy to download map sections but the route planning function needs a lot of work. It adds in random loops instead of the direct path (or 'crow fly') you want, making it impossible to plot your route correctly and determine the full walking distance. Disappointing aspect of what would otherwise be great alternative to the ONS app.
5 stars if didn't have to buy maps again when changing to a new phone with same Google account.
Been looking for a decent replacement for Viewranger and this is the best I have come across. Like the ability to buy just individual tiles and ease of switching between map types. Would be better still if could also purchase 50K OS maps as well as 25K, and to be able to auto sync routes across devices.
Not detailed enough. I purchased this as I cannot view Surrey interactive maps from any mobile device. The SIM is free and goes to OS MasterMap level, which is highly detailed. Considering I paid for I ablip of OS I would like to be able to zoom to better level than OS Vectormap local level. It has nice touches, but I want some detail, plus lacks footpaths.
As a Viewranger user for many years, this app is superb. It has now replaced VR as my preferred app for long distance treks. The ability to use accurate OS mapping completely offline is excellent.
Sadly no apps seem to be able to plot walks using footpaths automatically. Such a shame I would have thought someone would have devised this by now. I had to pay twice for some of the maps before they worked! That's not great even though the price was not crazy. But then after paying the plan route does not work. Always wants to do as thecrow fly's....pointless last time I looked I'm not a crow
Superior in every way to the OS MapFinder (discontinued) and OS Maps apps. At last an app using OS maps but easy to download offline, get accurate GPS, plan routes, etc. Good value as you're not locked into subscription but just buy the areas you need and have them forever.
The real deal. This is the best alternative to ViewRanger currently available, and much better than it in several respects. Don't waste your time with OS Maps or OutdoorActive.
Disappointed no horse riding option in the setting installed & bought local map to see bridleways but no clear & no horse riding option 😤 I appreciate the response & the offer to refund it was 79p so I'm not particularly bothered for it just disappointed if you could add a riding option a some stage I think many more people would use it as there doesn't seem to be anything on the market other than subscription to os maps
The very first screen says "to use use Topo GPS you need to buy a map" and then lists prices. There's no way to try it out without paying, no time limited demo period or restricted map set, nothing. Bye!
Great Mapping on the move... I use this for walking and is a fraction of the price of buying sheet maps. Really clear and accurate and you do not need to be using your data to view.
Lovely being able to buy OS map tiles of various sizes rather than paying a subscription. A one-off modest payment for world osm. A great alternative to ViewRanger (which has been taken over by the very inferior OutdoorActive).
I bought the Swedish map twice but all I got was the UK map.
Brilliant app with very inexpensive in-app map area purchases. Record your route and share, or not, as you wish. Edit route details, rename so it's personal. Try it!

Great way to access OS maps
Brilliant replacement for viewranger or whatever its called...and in most ways better and faster. Simple yet elegant map selection and all at a good price.
This is a fantastic app, it's easy to use a very clear display and I like it how you can purchase individual OS explorer 1:25000 tiles for the UK at a very reasonable price. Keep up the excellent work!
