Torch

A simple torch application. Free, with no ads.
This app controls your device's camera LED to make it act as a torch (flashlight). That's it.

Tested on:
* LG Nexus 5 (with Kit Kat 4.4)
* LG Nexus 4 (with Jelly Bean 4.2.1)
* Samsung Galaxy Nexus (with Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.2)
* HTC EVO 3D (with Gingerbread 2.3.4)

Also noted to work on:
* Samsung Galaxy S II
* Samsung Galaxy W
* Samsung Galaxy Note
* Samsung Galaxy Note II
* Samsung Nexus S
* Motorola Droid II
* HTC Wildfire
* HTC Droid DNA

Thanks for all who's let us know if this worked for their device (or not)!

Note: The additional permission for widget support in 1.1 (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) is to work around limitation on some devices' cameras (notably my own Samsung Galaxy Nexus), where a preview surface needs to be present for the camera's LED torch mode to be effective.

P.S.: The source code is open, hosted on github (https://github.com/santa4nt/Galaxy-Torch).

It does one thing and it does it instantly: turn on the camera light. No fuss, no ads, no silly strobe or Morse code feature bloat. Why anyone would use other apps which demand a 3MB download and show ads is beyond me.

Looked at a bunch of other flashlight apps and they ask seen to wasn't ridiculous permissions. For network, storage, phone calls... All stuff a flashlight app has no business touching. This one's permissions are simple and to the point. That tells me there's not a bunch of baloney going on begins the scenes like the other apps and I appreciate that. 5 star for simplicity and truth in advertising. Keep up the good work dev.

Does what it says on the tin. No fuss, no ads, no daft permissions... But turns off when you lock the screen, which during prolonged use you would do to avoid accidentally turning it off. Would advise making this a tick box option in the settings for the next update.

Oh I have to thank the developer of this little gem. I have tried so many flashlight applications that light is streaming out of my ears. More like it was driving me nuts looking for an application that is just a flashlight not a advertising failure. Thank you developer for a nice clean application.

Other popular apps state they only use your camera, but after install, antivirus software shows they access over 16 private items on phone. Trust me, my antivirus proved this to be accurate. That's unfortunate, because they're being both misleading and selling your private information to third parties. Torch, on the other hand, uses camera's light and deemed safe, according to antivirus software. Thank you Torch!

Does exactly what it says on the tin and no permissions required. At last an app that doesn't want to know the ins and outs of your phone.

Please be careful while installing apps. I was trying to download an app for torch and found that many apps are trying to access your gallery images and browser history etc. Now why does a torch app needs to access my gallery and browser history. . Beware. . These guys are a cheat

Seriously guys, how do you all miss that? The flash light turned off just when I lock the screen. I had to lock my screen because if I don't , unnecessary touches to the GUI made the flash turned off anyway. Plz fix this and I will give you 5 star. One more thing, the switch is off no use , because some area outside that switch is also responding to touch.

I loved this app on my old phone (HTC wildfire) because it did everything I wanted. Now on my lg nexus it turns off if the screen does, the strobe is no longer adjustable, and quite frankly does not have the options to function the way I want it to.

I don't know how, but this app makes my broken flashlight work perfectly. Other apps (including the OS's "quick setting" tile) take at least two seconds to turn the LED light off, but this turns it off instantaneously.

Wow no in ya face permission list like most of the other apps like this. Perfect. Love it. If there was 6 stars I would click that, 5 is an odd number so can't click that! Ps, I love Linux! Just hate Google.

A simple and tiny app which works perfectly. Comes with lock screen and home screen widgets too. Dev is super fast at responding to any queries.

You want a torchlight, you get a torchlight. The app size is small, no ads, no extra stuff I would never use and no need for all sorts of permission. The best is you can switch on the light with the widget and still use other apps on your phone. Thank you!

Can even use volume button to start flashlight without unlocking screen, just have to turn screen on then back of so your phone isn't in conservative battery mode

As soon as I lock the phone screen the LED switches off. Defeats the entire purpose of a flashlight app. If I leave the screen on, I run the risk of accidentally touching the switch, and consequently being left in the dark.

Simple and light... very easy to use but the light goes off, whenever screen locks. It ll be much more better if there is option to choose, what happens when screen locks.

I have set up a gesture on apex launcher to open this app if I swipe down. It makes getting the flash light on super easy.

Can't get better than this.. Simple no nonsense app, small in size, with no silly ads or permissions.. Just love it. P.S for me the flashlight stays on even after the screen is locked..

Works a treat. No failures. Simple and customisable in its function. No unusual permission requests. Free. I don't think a torch app can actually be any better. Thanks go to the developer.

As a flashlight it works, OK. Forget to close it before turning off the screen - it will eat the battery, completely in a few hours.

Exactly what I wanted, a torch with no adverts and a simple on/off button. The low RAM usage is a bonus. Excellent work Developers. Please don't change it!

A app that does what you need without needing permission to use your phones contacts, wi fi, storage and ad free etc ... simple but perfect... thank you

I tried installing a bunch of other flashlight apps and stopped when I saw the huge list of access permissions that most of them wanted. This app turns the LED flash on and off without accessing anything else!
