Tower Behind the Moon

You are the greatest magician in the Sublunar World. It is not enough. As a rare Conjunction approaches, immortality is within reach. But the gods have noticed you trying to unlock the doors of heaven. Some demand you ascend–or else–while others plot your destruction. There are only two paths for you now, archmage: immortality or annihilation.

"Tower Behind the Moon" is a 400,000-word interactive epic fantasy novel by Kyle Marquis, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

You have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transcend your mortal state one month from now, in the tower where your magic is strongest. Miss this celestial conjunction and you will die. As you prepare for your ascension, however, you battle increasing dangers.

Your tower is your sanctum, but also a target for enemies you've made over a lifetime of treasure hunting, sorcery, and war. Angels and demons haunt your workshop while mortal princes demand favors and concessions. Your servants–themselves half-gods or more–fight for your attention and scheme to claim the tower for themselves. And the wretched shade of your mentor, who failed to ascend, hints that something out of your past plans to destroy your future.

You hold the keys to heaven, hell, and the outer darkness. You just need to find the door.

• Play as male, female, or nonbinary, gay, straight, bi, or ace.
• Choose from five different magical paths, each with unique servants and spells.
• Travel from the forgotten castles of the underworld to heaven’s crooked back-alleys.
• Face mad dragons, ruthless angels, cultists, and whole kingdoms of the dead.
• Be dreadful and monstrous, or subtle and ruthless.
• Uncover the true history of your tower, your mentor, and your long-lost adventuring companions.
• Maintain your humanity or abandon the fetters of reason.
• Comfort the afflicted or vaporize the annoying.
• Dare to seek love at the end of your mortal existence.
• Become a demon, a god, an undead lich, a shining immortal, or a living continent–if you succeed.

Your weapon: magic. Your enemy: the gods. Your goal: immortality.

One of the harder 'choice of' games - I've played it twice now and still haven't got an ending I'm satisfied with - though the journey there was definitely satisfying. I usually breeze through these while roleplaying a character, but I think this time I'll have to be a bit more strategic to get a perfect end. Choosing your school of magic is great too, as it changes up a lot of the descriptions and puts more life in your replays. Pages initially turned slowly, but that went away on its own.

Really interesting and fun. The writing was engaging and the setting was a real delight. I wasn't too fond of how the time limit was presented as it often felt I'd missed something but I enjoyed this too much to really hold that against the game.

There is so much lore, and so many side characters, with such incredibly long names and incredibly convoluted backstories fit in so limited exposition, that it simply became utterly confusing. To not acknowledge the word limit inherent in such choices games, and the corollary limit to how developed a plot is able to be, results in a head-scratching story, that leads to the reader simply closing their eyes and picking an option.

This game is just incredible. I finally finished my first playthrough and will start again after finishing this review. The whole time i played it I thought, "Oooh i gotta play again for that choice, and that one, and this one". So many outcomes and endings to find, I'm gonna do it.

As of writing this, I've completed almost 7 playthroughs of the game. It has amazing replay value, with each type of magic providing a unique experience. Necromancy was my favorite, with summoning as a close second. I highly recommend the game, and I recommend you play through it more than once. It's the best CoG I've played in a long time.

I actually purchased this book. The world building in this story is some of the best I have ever seen. This book lends itself well to multiple playthroughs with all the different magics and relationships. In fact second playthrough is better because you comprehend all your allies and the world which is so distinctive. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.

Unplayable lag on my device, and the screen keeps moving to the right of the text. Frustrated, and the link to contact support isnt working! I would otherwise rate 5 stars.

Absolutely incredible, this may be one of the greater works this project has put together yet! I may have a slight bias from getting to apotheosis proper the first go round, but I fully intend to go at it again and see what this has to offer! Highly recommended, and worth the price!

Not the best of their stories. You kind of start out as this super powerful character. I prefer ones which have you build up your own power. Relationships are a little limited, but not overly forced. Overall, decent, but not great.

One of the best interactive novel I've read so far! My choices actually mattered and the abundance of paths you can take makes it worthwhile to replay.

Story was okay, I somehow ascended but the choices didnt really make sense. It was kind of hard to understand what stats were being applied to the choices. Not bad not good.

One of their best, I must say. By far the highest replay-ability of any of their games, and one of the highest qualities and longest length stories to boot! Surprised this hasn't gotten more attention.

Battles are the best! this is an excellent read, well written, and exciting at every turn. can't wait to go again and try other options.

Outstanding. A classic fantasy epic in a style I don't often see any more. Grapple for ultimate power in an elaborate and fascinating world.

my only complaint is that, for me atleast, having the randomised genders and names be a part of the game kind of ruins it because it make some dialogue awkward and usually makes the characters more bland.

My GOD-uh I mean me. This story was so awesome. Like the word awesome fits its narrative. I became a "God Titan of Power and Metamorphosis" and STILL felt like I had more to achieve and accomplish. I am in love with this idea of being normal to become god like or a god being, and that there's so many different varieties of divinity that are all still valid. It's like the other game Aether, Gods were like a species doing what they do, but they were all "below" another entity. Sequel pls.🙏

Not a bad story but the stats are all bugged. some just stop increasing making achievements impossible.

Holy sweet merciful christ muffins on a bicycle never in my life have I read a choice of game with so much effort! It will take me a long time to make my way through all the playthroughs I want to see.

The only negative part about this game is placing it in the negative spot to be mad like the creature you spawn! its great..its got stuff..like pop culture references including majoras mask reference or oh making fun of how you convienently play god as a living continent is cool becoming god as the world to not be god seems fitting to me i guess if you like..plants(no life) try reading it lightheartedly(if you really need a reason to keep the Negativity you have to pay for it guys..eventually😅)

10 out of 10! I've played it multiple times and I'm still not tired of it! Epic fantasy at its best!

Bet. J. May 6, 2019

Let me spare you the trouble, since it's not mentioned anywhere before installation: you can play 4 chapters but then you'll have to pay for the rest.

This game is like when you have completely learned the parts of a joke, but you're not funny.
