This thing is so frustrating. It took forever to set up because it struggled to find our wifi, then weeks after having it, we can't leave messages because there is a "network error." It's almost impossible to find real help/tech support. All I can do is write an email to who knows who and hope they actually help me soon. Great idea for a toy/app in theory, but very poor execution and lots of problems along the way.
Subscription is a complete waste. I purchased the year long subscription for the toy and it is a complete disappointment. Not to mention it woke up me, my baby and my toddler at 4am to tell us it was time for school and yine to feed the cat. That is most definitely not when I scheduled those tasks and i didn't even schedule them at the same time! No thanks. I turned off all the features except messaging.
Wish I could give it 0 stars. I see from the reviews posted over a year ago that nothing has changed. Only function that works is sending and receiving voice clips. None of the other features work like teaching words and numbers, fun facts, Alexa integration, etc. and it seems from what I've read here they never have. I emailed their support but haven't heard anything back. Luckily my daughter isn't as disappointed with this as I am. I just wish I could see her reaction if it actually worked.
Network error. Network error. Network error. That's all it says. No information on who to contact, or how long this has been happening. Luckily I know enough to be able to diagnose that the problem is apparently all on the Toymail side of the network. Pretty dissapointing. Guess we'll just go back to the standard video chatting tools.
Would be great if I could add other friends as contacts for my Daughter on her toy as advertised. I have had 3 other people download the app and when I search for them as friends it does not find them. It only gives me a button to invite them to download the app which they already downloaded. horrible interface and I expected way more from a shark tank item.
Hasn't worked since I got it and now that my daughter is old enough to use it and get excited about sending messages to grandma and grandpa, it keeps saying network error and won't even let me log on! My parents will def not be able to keep up with all the issues going on if they can't even access the app. Total disappointment and really wish this company cared about the quality of their product enough to resolve errors like this and improve customer experience. I'm pretty upset about it.
Appears to be abandoned. Toys constantly say "check your Wi-Fi" despite being connected, app can't log in, web site returns a 403 with an invalid certificate. I think they're gone. It was a wonderful idea while it lasted.
This s*&@ does not work! I read the reviews and it doesnt work for anyone else either. I would love the products if they actually stayed connected and functioning properly but they don't. When the software starts working I would love to change my review. Feel free to contact me toymail.
this toy had potential and i was excited for my little guy to have it as me and his dad are seperated and this would be an awesome way for him to communicate through us. When he opened it up for christmas he was filled with joy, we put batteries in it and started the syncing process (which is complicating but would have been worth it if it would have worked) after the sync was done it stopped working. ive tried new batteries and nothing. ive emailed them but have received no reply. Dont buy!
junk wont connect tried 2 routers. used 2.4 ghz says its working but light blinks green and red. ok moving to 4 stars its not the app but the toy. i changed my router settings on my 2.4 ghz frequency to not got above 300k and it now commects. it does not give u a solid green but a blinking green light so dont rely on that.
after 2 weeks of trying to get passed network errors finally got toy to set up. work good at first. until adding a second contact which eliminated the first and can not get it back. customer service for anything but sales doesn't exist. GREAT COMPANY....NOT! stay away from toymail!!!
fairly easy set up. my biggest suggestion is to have an age group setting. for instance: my 4 year old sends nonsense messages to everyone in the family that is mostly background noise. give parents the ability to veto those messages and keep her family from hating this whole thing.
App gets worse and worse. No updates in a year and a half. Company deserted all web pages and social media. They have appeared to go AWOL. Can't recover the voice clips.
I don't think I can find words in how great this toy is and will grow to be. I am an otr driver and is great for me to keep contact directly to my daughter. It's also a great way for grandparents that don't see her that often to keep contact. I love this toy! (rest of the family is wanting one also just for the plushy)
This app is awful. I cannot connect to friends or even fully setup a new toy without network errors. I have tried on WiFi and 4G but I don't get anywhere.
i absolutely love the whole concept of the talkie it makes it easy to connect with my son while he is at his daddys I wasn't big on the thought of a cell phone for a 7 year old when i came across the talkie on amazon I didn't think twice about my purchase its the best money ive ever spent and what makes it even better my son loves it just as much! i will be making 2 more purchases to connect my other children to his talkie also! Thank you so much Toymail the talkie a blessing to my family!
so simple a 2 year old can do it. my kids send me stuff randomly and it's awesome. the interface for android is easy to use sending/receiving.... adding toys and sharing messages took two seconds
Ok for people who are away from their kids (in our case for grandparents to stay in touch). Was hard to set up and the app is awkward to get around, and there isnt much you can do without buying the add ons, but for phone messages its a nice little gadget
App is occasionally a little glitchy trying to send messages but has always gone through. All in all works as advertised and no complaints.
the concept is awesome has bugs we are having to reset it quite often my daughter is furstrated shes 5; years old my wife says its a bad investment.. i like it I wish they would just tellbme i gave a bad product and replace it Nothing but problems and a very upset 5 year old.. best get them an Iphone or use and old one and teach them to use it... im giving up on this defective product...
I really love this app my sister has the toy and loves to send things to people. I got my phone taken away and I really wanted to download this onto my chromebook so I can talk to her. But otherwise it is a very good app and I recomend it. It keeps your family connected even if they are far away.
The concept of the talkie is great and my daughter absolutely loves it. The downfall is my daughter has only had her talkie for a week, and the network is down. So I hope this doesn't happen often or will be down for too much longer, considering how much these talkies cost.
So, basically, I left a bad review in here about the app being unworthy, but it just finally worked via the assistant of one of the Customer Service reps aka Alice. So, Im finally happy with the products and seems working unless new complications rise....for now, thank you Alice for your help.
The toy itself is fine. Sends and receives fine. The app, on the other hand, is always a problem! I have had nothing but "network error" messages every time I try to use it.
SOMEBODY HIT ME I got the toy in 2018 for a gift. I was hype to let my 10 y/old talk with no text or video chat. But INSTEAD the toy will never connect. Everything is right. I even messed with the wifi. Tech support was the worst as well. We got it off amazon and tech support said "Sorry, that's a "third-party" seller." SEROUSLY?!? all sellers must work the same. I feel like i was scammed 80 US DOLLARS. Here's a way to stay in touch, GET YOUR KID A DANG DISCORD ACCOUNT!
I'm returning! Trying for 2 days to sync it. After reading the reviews, if having problems already what's it going to be later. Not going to have a disappointed daughter and have it to late to return it later. I'm done. Going to return it before I smash it into smithereens!!! Needs alot of work to work out the bugs before I would try it again. Sad because I think it's a great concept for kids to little for phones. So disappointed!
