The Toyota+Alexa app that displays in my car console simply hangs and never connects, in spite of the fact that my android phone is successfully connected to my 2021 Toyota via Bluetooth and I can successfully get phone calls and text messages. I have all the required apps installed on my phone and am logged into them when I attempt to make the connection to the car. I've tried a lot of times but can't get this to work. Extremely frustrating.

Recently started working after Toyota app v 2.0 came out, so increasing stars. Issues - (1) all Toyota apps fight to be the foreground app, which renders your phone effectively unusable for Google Maps, Spotify, etc. (2) Some have indicated that turning off battery optimization helps launch this more reliably. I've had to launch it manually a few times, and it seems to work for a little while automatically after that. (3) sometimes app interrupts itself while starting the requested action.

Toyota+Alexa doesn't work properly. If I uninstall and reinstall I can get it to work once or twice. It gets stuck on listening mode or at times will say I need to download the app on my phone. I got a new phone a few months ago and thought it was that causing the problem, but in looking at other reviews, I realize it is the app and not me. Toyota and Alexa need to get it together.... figure it out.

I have two echos at home and they work great. But Alexa in the car doesn't always work. Sometimes turning off Bluetooth and turning it back on helps. Turning the car off and on helps, but can be problematic. A lot of the time I get "I'm having trouble understanding" The volume is very quiet. I have to crank it right up and have the car on max and it resets the volume reach time. In principle, it's better than just using regular Bluetooth. Android Auto would be a much better solution.

This app is such a struggle to connect. I love Alexa! It works great in my house. I struggle to keep it downloaded. The Toyota and Entune apps need to be running. Even if they are, Toyota+Alexa will still not connect. When it does connect, it freezes at "Alexa is listening...". Please fix. I've been installing the app off and on for almost 2 years. Still no great success.

This app really sucks. Wish my car had android auto. Really great when/if it works. Randomly works. Usually gets hung up while trying to connect. When it does finally connect, intermittently disconnects. Very frustrating to work with. Will tell you that Alexa is thinking wow it is actually freezing the entire Entertainment System to the point where you have to turn off the vehicle to reboot the system. It's too bad, because it would be really cool if it worked.

Terrible app. Connection is finicky at best, and when I finally do get it to connect, the audio now stops as soon as the phone screen locks (never did that before). How hard can it be to make an app that just works? Update: After the most recent update (7/21/21) I can't get it to even connect at all. Kudos to you all on such an amazing job.

Worked once. That's it! Tells me I need to connect Bluetooth even though I am connected. I've uninstalled it, and I will install it again and try again. If it works maybe I'll give it 2 stars, because no app should be this difficult to get to work. I'd only use my android car play, but that requires the wire to be connected. It seems something should work with Bluetooth. But nothing does other than streaming from my phone.

I was just getting used to using but it was hit and miss loading. Now, as with other current reviews, the app has stopped working. Tried to uninstall and reinstall, disconnect bluetooth and back still nothing. Crashed a few times reinstalling app. Appears the last update was in June! Also, the app doesn't sleep after you turn off vehicle and drains phone battery. Thanks!

I got this to work exactly once and never again after that. Hard to say if the problem is this app or with Entune but the app is running, my phone is definitely connected via bluetooth (I can run Amazon Music and it will play through the car speakers) but Entune says it can't connect to Alexa. I already own an Alexa Auto, and will unfortunately probably go back to using that. It's extra wires and hardware I was hoping to get rid of and while that one sometimes makes me restart the app as well, I've never had it fail to connect while the app is actually up and on screen, which happens all the time with "Toyota+Alexa". Hope they fix it but it sounds like they're not working on it and may not even be paying attention to reviews.

Really disappointed in this app. I definitely had higher expectations of Toyota and Amazon. The technology in a brand new 2021 vehicle should work more often than not. 98% of the time it simply says not detected, be sure you have the app downloaded. On the off chance it does connect, it's temporary (under 10 minutes) and them your back to silence and the same cannot detect the app message.

After my phone's software updated, the Toyota+Alexa would start run for a couple of minutes and then crash. Considering what a big role this software plays in the overall driving experience, this makes me wish I had not purchased my Rav4. The software causes such a disruption in attention that it should really be recalled. I've been using the software for a couple of months and it's been problematic all along. again, this poses a risk to Public Safety and really needs to be explored further.

I thought there was something wrong with my phone or the car until I read all these reviews from the past few months. Now I realize the App is worthless. I noticed that nobody, who maintains this app or fixes it, has made a comment such as "Sorry for the problems, we are working on it and should have a solution in the near future". This is because NOBODY READS THESE EXCEPT THE CONSUMER. Also, I found that the smartphone cannot be plugged into the USB plug. The phone either needs to be unplugged or plugged into the auxiliary plug for this app to work. My problem is that not only does it work sometimes and not at other times but even when it works there is some other glitch. In my case it cannot connect with the audio in my car so there is no sound. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO FIX THIS APP!!!!!!!!!! Somebody also needs to communicate with us, the consumer, and stop showing that you just do not care. If you want the same features as Toyota+Alexa that work, I found that if you press down on the icon, on the steering wheel, of the face speaking and hold it, it will go to Google. There you can do all the same things as on Toyota+Alexa using verbal instructions or commands. {Maybe that is why Toyota is not going to too much trouble to either admit to a problem or to fix it}

This app is horrible. I've spent over a month trying to get it to work. When it is installed and you have a Samsung Galaxy 9 phone you can't answer incoming calls. It wouldn't even ring. The only notification I saw was "Call Ended". I could make out going calls but not receive. It also conflicted with my home screen phone buttons. They would completely grey out. Deleting the app was the only way to fix problem.

Love using Alexa in my Toyota...WHEN it works! It often says my device isn't connected/available, even when it is. I turn my car off & restart to get it working again, OR turn bluetooth off & on to get it working. It often changes the volume on my phone...I turn it all the way up, then in the middle of a song it turns my phone down. Lastly, don't ask Alexa to pause your music...if so when you say PLAY, it will but with no sound. Only way to "fix" is to tell Alexa to move to the next song.

Agree with other reviews here, can't connect, or works for 10 minutes, and mine will disconnect when placing the phone on the wireless charger in the vehicle. That issue started a few updates ago, and thus, the more updates, the less functionality or reliability the app becomes. I really enjoyed the app and services the first year I had the vehicle, but about may 2021, the software and apps began to have critical failures.

Chr. W. Mar 24, 2021

I am very disappointed in this app. It cannot be used along with Android auto because Android auto disconnect the Bluetooth from your phone in the vehicle. If you do disconnect Android auto and then are on Bluetooth you can barely hear Alexa and then anything you ask her she couldn't do unless it was connected to the Wi-Fi. It seems there are quite a few bugs that need to be worked out and an update is extremely necessary!

Ter. B. Dec 30, 2020

I dislike that it does not connect automatically once it detect your phone and if you forget to connect it and start driving forget it your screwed and won't be able to connect to it until you put the vehicle in park. Which sucks because cause you can't even do anything as a passenger 😒. Besides its acting up at the moment and it doesn't listen to anything I say. This app needs some serious upgrades.

Dat. M. Jul 24, 2020

Waste of time. Worked only once, after initial setup. Then in able to get it work at all. The Toyota-Alexa icon in the "Infotainment" section is always grayed out, basically denying any acces to the app to even work. Launching the Toyota-Alexa app from the phone does not work either. Should not advertise this feature unless it's been tested throughly. Poor app integration

I have a 2021 4 Runner. The app is totally unreliable. I have read other reviews and I am experiencing the same problems as everyone else. It connects maybe 10% of the time and then will not connect repeatedly. Would be a great app if it worked but it the worst app I have ever used. Toyota needs to get the issues corrected or compensate their Toyota buyers for all the frustration with this app.

This app sucks!!! Spent several hours trying to get it to connect by uninstalling reinstalling changing settings doing everything that you could find on the internet to fix it. Basically this Toyota app sucks. You would think that it would work better when you spend this kind of money on a car and expect it's apps to work with your phone.

Kry. A. Mar 17, 2021

very disappointing app for Android from a major company. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it says it's connected but it won't respond. If you're listening to a book on MP3, it auto starts on your Bluetooth, when Alexa finally connects 20 minutes later it reduces sound by 3/4, forcing you to turn up stereo to full blast & risk busting your speaker if switch to radio without readjusting volume or fish your phone out of pocket to put volume back to previous level .

Geo. H. Apr 29, 2022

Crashes continually. But, I just found out that the App doesn't work with my sumsung galaxy Note 10. But the updated app works with Samsung galaxy S20 and newer. Maybe even older. So I'm trading my Note 10 4G LTE for a new S21. I'll advise if it works soon. (edit) it's May 2022 and still not working. Also, I bought the Samsung S22 Ultra. Best phone around. But, nope, won't work with Toyota Alexa. Called Toyota and they couldn't help. Returned the phone.

Constant connectivity problems with Android 12 on my Pixel 4a. When it works, it works well. Sadly that's only about a third of the time. To fix connection problems I have to reboot my phone and turn the car off&on. Worse yet, before this "hands free" app tries to engage, Toyota's infotainment screen exhorts me to manually bring this app up while the car is not in motion. Then the connection problems show up. It's easier to just pull my phone out and use the regular Alexa app. Totally sucks

Den. V. May 29, 2020

Works well but at one point it didn't. My previous review was one star as it took six visits to the Toyota dealership to figure out why the app wasn't working correctly with other app running i.e. Scout Navigation. Toyota got everything figured out. It still has one slight issue, I have to unplug the USB C cable and turn it over to get my map function to work while the Alexa app is running. Other than that it is working fine.

Dan. Y. Jan 27, 2020

Frequently requires manually restarting the app or disconnecting and reconnecting bluetooth on the phone itself in order to get the car to recognize the connection to the app on the phone. The worst part is that although it says that Toyota+Alexa app is not detected, the app still launches itself on the phone at the forefront of the screen as if to taunt you.

Jas. T. Jun 6, 2019

Great app when it works. Occasionally, I have issues where it won't work when i start the vehicle. i have also found that when I try to place a call using alexa, and i have the home screen up in the vehicle, it only displays part of the prompt to select yes or no to place a call. Not sure why there is a prompt on the screen anyway if the goal is for handsfree.

The Toyota app and Toyota Alexa app are extremely buggy. I used to get a smooth connection the 1st time it connected with a new Prius Prime but subsequent connections required a restart of the app and now it alternates between 2 error messages on the vehicle, "To use the service, Toyota app needs to be running on your phone..." or "ensure your Entune App Suite is running..." The Entune app in the Play store says it's not compatible when loaded and the Toyota app is running! Ugh! Frustrating!

Eri. A. May 26, 2020

More reliable than the Toyota app, but still inconsistent. Very slow to connect (via Entune). I now use an Echo Auto to provide the same function more reliably, and portably. Toyota charges you for each car, and each function; the cost adds up! Sad; charging us again, over and over, to use the integrated functions we already paid for.

This app is poorly designed. It only work 25% of the time. I have disconnected my phone from the car multiple times and have even deleted my phone and resetted my phone from Bluetooth in the car. I have done everything the dealer has told me and no success. Toyota needs to do something with this app if they are going to advertise it.... Also my car is a 2020 Highlander and it has worked a few times..
