Train Away

TrainAway is a mobile application which, through automation, allows users to train their dogs for hours a day while only absorbing seconds of the users time. TrainAway uses Counter Conditioning paired with neutral or positive reinforcement element to reduce or remove stressful behaviors associated with different sounds. TrainAway uses an algorithm to play the user selected sounds randomly at predefined intervals. The algorithm paired with the users volume and frequency input is designed to provide a consistent, safe and calm learning environment for the dog.

Overall this was a well made and well thought out app. The quality of sounds that played and the amount of options available was impressive. For my dog, I found it more helpful to work with him on ignoring the sounds as they played through the day rather than just leaving it on and walking away. If I had one complaint, it would be that if you go into another app or get a phone call or your screen goes black, the app stops playing completely.

We tried this app through Pupfluence on IG (@sassyqtbailey). It's a strong concept (desensitizing and exposure therapy), but I think the app needs some work. I tried recording our own audio - not sure it works. The default audio is great but could be expanded on to include common triggers (skateboard, helicopters). Keeping the app open is also a downer, would be great if it could run in the background and let the audio be longer in duration. Hoping to see this develop further.

Trainaway is a good way to train your dogs to become used to everyday sounds. It comes preloaded with noises, but in my opinion the most interesting option is the one to record your own sounds. With that option you're able to record the exact sounds that cause reactions. One thing to keep in mind is that it is recommended to play the noises through a stereo, or something similar that can get the noise as close to the real thing as possible. It is a great tool to have in your pocket, literally, and a wonderful first step in training your pup.

The concept of this app is a great one, but unfortunately the app itself didn't work for us. My pups will bark at anything - people walking by, the mailman, the door opening, etc. - and so I was excited to see how this tool would work for them. When I first tried this using the sounds included in the app, my dogs were not at all phased. I then recorded the sounds of my actual door, keys, etc thinking this might make a difference but it really didn't. OK, maybe they just didn't associate those sounds with the real thing, no problem. Next, I tried the thunderstorm part. One of my guys is a chihuahua, and we all know how nervous they are. Thunderstorms in the south can get crazy, so we normally medicate him and out his thundercoat on. I figured this might get him used to the sound so he wouldn't be so darn scared. Again, no dice. He didn't react to the sounds at all. We did have one thunderstorm in the time I tried this out and I stood out on my covered porch recording the sound to use instead. Again, nothing. I would say overall that the idea is a good one, but the app itself just didn't seem to work for us.

When I tried the app I didn't get the reaction from my dog. I think that the concept it a great idea! They had tons of options to desensitize your dog. And you could add multiple sounds to make a sequence of events. Overall it's a great app, just didn't work for my dog.

I love how complete the sounds are. The sound recording functionality is amazing! This app is extremely useful. Just am sad that my cellphone speaker and microphone are bad, so the results could be much better. overall it is a good app!

So we've spent a couple of weeks road testing the app and it's been awesome. I like being able to counter-condition my dog's reaction to the sound of the garage door and; that usually drives him crazy! On top of the range of professionally recorded sounds you can capture your own that trigger your dog to react negatively and work them through it. I would definitely recommend the app to anyone with a noise reactive dog, it's such a handy tool. Functionality is smooth & there are no annoying ads!

This app is a lifesaver! My dog reacts horribly to a ton of different sounds. Being able to choose the sound & how long it's played is a definite plus. I love that you can record your own sounds. Another plus is how simple it is use at anytime.

I think the idea is brilliant. Reducing stress and therefore reaction to certain sounds through increased exposure. Love that they explain to start at the lowest level that your dog reacts in order to reduce stress while training. Unfortunately, even at the highest level and with use of a speaker my dog did not react. Even to sounds that are normally quite triggering for her. I hope it works for others because it could be an amazing tool.

I love the concept. Some sounds for my dogs and some doesn't. My dogs typically barks at doorbells, but with the app they totally ignore it. They somehow knows it's not the actual doorbell. However, the dog sounds they react to it and I was able to slowly get them to ignore it. They are still working on it though. This requires patient and persistent to get dogs to be desenstize.

I got the opportunity to use this app through Pupfluence (IG @walterthebriard). I studied psychology in college so I was intrigued by this app. I think it's a great concept but I wish it didn't require full use of my phone. I ended up using it to play sounds randomly to try to get my dog used to them instead of leaving the app open on my phone for extended periods of time like is recommended in the app. It would be great if it was compatible with Amazon's Alexa!

As a certified, professional trainer, I was so pleased to see this app when it first came out. The concept is brilliant, and the catalog of sounds is well executed. It explains why and how one should counter condition their dog to sounds, as well as where to start and how to move through the training. With so many dogs suffering from things like storm phobias, firework fears, and reactivity (be it towards dogs or otherwise), it is very important that every day owners have access to a tool that can help then start the process if they don't have access to a trainer nearby, or cannot afford one. The app comes with plenty of prerecorded sounds, many of which are common triggers, and even allow the user to record their own content, like tags jingling on a collar or the sound of your key entering your deadbolt. I have found it useful during my training sessions with clients. Especially for reactive dogs, for whom the sight and sound of the scary thing can both freak them out, and when you combine the two (how often are you going to hear tags on a collar and NOT encounter a dog?), it can send the dog over threshold and make them difficult to manage. Having the ability to access the sounds I need from the palm of my hand, instead of slogging through YouTube videos to find the right one, as well as the ability to tailor the volume to the dog in question is brilliant. There have been some reviews which state their dogs did not react, and unfortunately, that is the case sometimes, but when the app works, I think it's fantastic.

This is a great idea to desensitize dogs who react to certain things. I wanted to try this out because I have a puppy and she is cautious of everything. She reacted to the sounds when we first tried it but I think she needs the real thing. My older dog barks at sirens but if I were to play it off my computer nothing happens. The concept is good but it didn't really do much for my puppy or dog. I believe my puppy is more sight triggered than sound. It's a nice app to have and try out though.

I use this app for my dog @raji_theindog and it is amazing! The app comes preloaded with a ton of noices from cars, air brakes, door knocks, to babies crying. You can also record your own sounds which is great. The system allows you to set up as many sounds as you would like to play at various intervals over time to condition your dogs to noices. It has really been wonderful to help get my pup over her fear of airbrakes from buses now that we live in the city. I highly recommend this app!!

*disclaimer- i was provided the app for free to review * this app is a trainer to desensitize dogs to noises, such as cars, other dogs barking, etc. after downloading it tells you to leave your device on at home during the day, so that should be stated prior to purchasing! i think most people would also prefer to run this from a laptop if possible. overall, my dog does react to the sounds, but i am not sure if she is becoming desensitized to this particular sound or all similar sounds.

I needed something like this! My chihuahua faints during thunderstorms due to fear. The app has many different sounds available that can cause problems for your dog, you even can record tour own. Doorbellls, thunder, frieworks, street noise and many more. I chose thunder and turned the volume full up. Within no time it was as she never feared that sound. Thanks trainaway_adt !

This is one neat and really helpful app. Its easy, effective and even fun to use. My puppies responded well at the start and after only a few minutes they didnt notice the sounds anymore. I love how you can ccustomize it. I also love the design and helpful tips from their Instagram page 😊 Thanks a lot for this app from @kyra_the_woofdog and her 12 husky puppies that are now fearless and ready for their new families.

low maintenance dog training. & by loe maintenance i mean no maintenance. its reallu just as simple as talking 3 minutes to set it up and pushing play before you leave. the only downside is yiu wont get the full reward without a secondary device you can leave.. it also doesnt se to offer solution for barkong outside the home. but if yiure dof is having issued with negative triggers in the home this is going to be your easiest (and cheapest) way to help them & you!! hope that helps yall out!!

Wonderfull app. One of the main things I used it for was teaching door manners, it has worked great! Another thing I used it for was desensitizing puppies to loud noises. I have also used the dog barking to work on focus. Overall a wonderful app that I 100% recommend!

This app has a long way to go, it's a really good idea but it doesn't function very well. There are a lot of sounds but unfortunately my dogs don't react to any of them. They have an option to record a sound but it doesn't work for me. Hopefully in the future I can use this app since it's such a good idea. @jesse_corgibeagle

Got an opportunity to use this through Pupfluence (IG @menmyshadow). While my dog didn't necessarily have a reaction to everything, there were some sounds he has not encountered, like the baby noises. My friend just had a baby and we have been talking about how my dog (my service dog in training) can be introduced so I don't have to worry about being without him when I visit. I was so glad to see baby noises on this app! Thanks for a new way to train! :)

We have been using the Trainaway app for a few weeks and I can already tell the difference. my dogs love barking. They bark at everything, but what bothers me the most is when the door bell rings. They go crazy and go straight for the door. One tries to sneak last and the other is dying to see who is there. With the train away app, you can play doorbell noises several times an hour to desensitize their response to the doorbell. It is easy to use and I have high hopes! ♡ Brandi @favafavalife

Pretty cool! I use this for training purposes on days when actually going out and doing so just isnt possible. Playing the sounds loudly in conjunction simulates the outside world and helps my dog practice focusing on me. Could also potentially help anxious dogs!

I have a secret! I am a little scared of certain noises. I am always borking at the little hoomans to come and play but they run away from me! Now my hoomans have this app for me @trainaway_ADT they can play all types of noises so i can get use to them. Really great through a speaker, mum sets it up outside so i think there really is kids outside.. 🤣🙋‍♀️ Thank you Trainaway for setting us up for success!

Unfortunately it just didn't seem to work for my dogs, they go crazy when someone rings our doorbell but for whatever reason they did not seem to react to any of the prerecorded sounds or even the recording of our doorbell. Might work for you but my dogs just didn't seem to react to the sounds.

I live in an apartment complex that houses a pair of mastiffs who find a reason to bark at everything! My quiet doberman is on high alert when they go off so we were dying for a predictable method of desensitizing her to their noise. This app is perfect for that and comes with a variety of common trigger noises for dogs. Set the timer and, when the trigger plays, treat and praise your dog for calm behaviour. Worked like a charm for us!

Didn't work on my chihuahuas and pommies. They ignored all sounds and didn't bark. I even tried hiding the phone so they couldn't see it. One of them heard the vacuum noise and peed on me but that was it. I give it high marks for realistic sounds.

my dog really loves to pay attention to my dog really loves to pay attention to anything that's at the door. any door closing, Keys jingling, knocking on the door. My dog loses his mind. With Trina way you are easily able to get them used to the noises that are bothering them. since I have been using train away my dog is paying less attention to the door then he originally was. instagram(polarbear_thekuvas)

I love this app! I have a very anxious puppy mill dog named Shilo. He is scared of EVERYTHING. Last summer I followed the mailman in his truck trying to record the sound. With this app I can pick so many different noises, duration and frequency. This is amazing! For now I am training Shilo with us at home. Eventually I'll work him up to training away. @baxter.goldendoodle.malone

Good idea but sounds aren't realistic. My dog is terrified of crackers but the app can't emulate the sounds properly to even wake him up.
