eTickets purchased within the app will sometimes not appear under the 'My Tickets' section, despite money being charged from my bank account. Tickets do not appear upon restarting device, reinstalling app, or buying other tickets. They also do not appear in my email inbox when such an error occurs. This error alone renders the app at worst unusable and at best unreliable for buying and using eTickets. If you're in a rush, buy a physical ticket from the machine. Additionally as others have picked up on, the app randomly logs you out. This is both inconvenient for the user, and inconvenient for others around you - anecdotally many people struggle with eTickets at the ticket barrier, causing queues. I wonder how many of these queues are down to users having to log back in? GUI intuitive and aesthetically pleasing, however. Potential for a great app, but unreliable right now
As other reviews describes, the app randomly logs me out. Naturally, you don't realise you've been logged until you need your ticket at a busy train station barrier. Because why in the world would an app like this randomly log you out? It's been doing this since at least last summer, so for the most part I've switched to other, more reliable apps that don't suffer from this very basic problem.
This app used to be buggy and frequently displayed the wrong trains and times. As other users have said, it would also log you out automatically after closing. Every time. However, now the app doesn't work at all. I cannot look up train times, stations, routes or buy tickets. Do not bother downloading this app.
Terrible experience, functionality is broken most of times. App keeps signing user out, when you done a search for a trip and want to book, it resets your search parameters when you have to login causing a few wrong tickets bought if you not looking carefully. At times tickets disappear from your tickets, so if you don't have Internet again you can't access your tickets. No proof of ticket and you are forced to pay for fare on train again. They also blocked taking a screenshot of tickets.
there should be a more effective way to look at train time for your planned journey. If I get an open return I don't want to scroll through all the relevant time at the station and their end destination not the one I want. I have to book a ticket to journey plan and get the different return times I want to choose. Good but this seems a major flaw. please fix :)
This app basically provides the bare minimum. Mobile ticketing, train times etc. But it's clunky UI, and my main gripe is it constantly logs me out. It's surely not a difficult fix to either retain the log in or at least provide the ability to reauthenticate with biometrics. Most apps do...
The potential is there for a great app. This isn't there yet. Constantly needing to re-sign in, particularly when you need to show the ticket, and sometimes the ticket paid for disappears from the app. Thankfully, they still email them because otherwise this would be an absolute nightmare. It's so close to being a decent working app, it just misses on the critical bits like storing the tickets purchased through it!!
Frankly this app is a disgrace and an embarrassment to the service. It barley fulfills it's basic purpose coupled with one of the poorest UI's I have ever had the misfortune to use. Honestly I have seen more polished scam websites than this abomination. In the many pages of glitchy pages which consistently reload when you make any action in the process of booking a ticket. At no point is clarity a thought in the mind of the designer. This should be a case study on what not to do in app design.
The app made me buy an off peak ticket when I had selected what was apparantly a peak time train, no information on the app as to when peak times are to check. I only found out when I was at the station. Very disappointing experience.
Constantly have to log back in and often can't complete the purchase so have to buy from the guard instead. Sometimes can't search for trains either. Pretty frustrating app.
The app did not pick up my ticket and a confirmation was never sent. I still had a reference number in My Booking but policy and system limitations to "re"issue a ticket that was NEVER issued is appalling. I talked to 7 GWR members of staff and spent 1.5 hours on the phone only to hear that I have to buy another ticket and claim a refund - this is valuable time that I don't have. Horrible resolution to a mistake made by a poor GWR system/app.
The app works fine, I'd like there to be platform numbers included in the travel plan for each ticket though! I have to use Google maps instead for that.
The app's been impossible to get into to retrieve travel codes etc for more than a week now, due to a 'technical issue'. Really?! What is so difficult to fix??
Update: also serious issues and delays getting support and refunds for app related issues. Strongly recommend you avoid for expensive and season tickets. The app is buggy, difficult to navigate and there are major customer service issues such as GWR station staff being unable to assist with season tickets biught through the app
Unable to login Bought a e-ticket but won't let me login despite using the right password. Only able to loging using the web version. It also won't allow me to register nor reset password. The only thing that pop up is error messages. What a watse of time.
The app has many issues but now it has stopped downloading QR codes of my purchased tickets. I've restarted the phone, cleared the app cache & storage, reinstalled the app, even tried some debugging myself but to no avail. Support is really useless and I doubt they have any idea about how their own app works. All they can suggest is reinstalling the app (or even worse 'use the PDF from the confirmation email'). They haven't even thought to save the QRs in .pkpass to import in anothe wallet app.
App requires signing in every day which slows down ticket buying when you are in a rush. It also never remembers details like railcars etc. Also periodically forgets card details and always requires way too many steps to buy a ticket. Now they are ending their partnership with nectar there are few advantages to this app so will be switching to another companies alternative
The app seems to intentionally log you out right before you need to show tickets, so you have to fill in your credentials again. About half the time, the badcode tickets don't open the barriers and you have to call staff. This is incomparably less reliable than paper tickets.
The app is fine. But it logs me out regularly, I have to login to PayPal each time. The Trainline app has a better user experience Google login and pay with the super easy on Android.
Clicking "My Tickets" and then your return ticket and then "view tickets" brings up the outbound ticket instead of the return, resulting in (I guess) thousands of gateline rejections per hour. Way to mess up basic user experience, amateurs.
Twice, now, it has logged out on the day I am travelling, first time was on the train. Need to carry login details at all times if using it. Ticket display focused around showing QR code, wish it would show details of trip more prominently (eg first/std class)
When I am outside of the UK (which is often) the app will not let me sign in to my account. It won't even let me use the journey planner. By contrast the website does allow sign in when outside the UK. This is illogical, and makes it more difficult for tourists to plan their travel and spend money with GWR. [Update] After arriving in the UK the app still would not let me sign in. I guessed that maybe it does not work with US-registered Google accounts, and sure enough when I installed with my UK-registered account it worked. Most tourists will not have a UK-based Google account, so I suspect the app will be no use to them. A feature missing is the ability to store seat-only reservations in the app. So make sure to print them out or save the confirmation email in case you have no internet access at the time the ticket inspector asks for it.
