Terrible.. Clunky poorly designed app. Generates bpay reference that is incorrect. Often system is down on Web and if you try log in 3 attempts locked out. Minimal security on transactions I note. Do yourself a favor look to another card. Huge hidden fees even for not using it for periods of time. Rates exchange appalling
The app is broken. When trying to top up the app forces me to open my banking app to verify the payment. But as soon as you open any other app the Travelex app resets to the start page, so the top up transaction is lost meaning you can never top up.
The app prompts for a "one-time authentication code" that is sent to your email. Switching to your email to get the code causes another email to be sent and thus the process starts again. The unhelpful advice from the developer was to use another device to read the email from; "I'm in another country without access to another device!" Anyway I found another device and authenticated my login. Six hours later l tried to access the app again and another authentication request is made 😠
Very difficult to top up card! The app is slow, and although it does what it says, I've moved to Revolut which is far more versatile, uses far more currencies, far easier to top up and move money between currencies, and less fees. Also, you can't transfer your money back to your personal account at all. They trap you in without a way to get out. We've residual money which they won't refund unless we pay a £6 fee! AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
One of the most frustrating experiences while travelling is trying to co-ordinate your money correctly and the app your using won't co-operate. This app seeks to capture this experience for it's user. The card itself is great, everything seems very secure. The app, the way the user can interact with their card and money, just doesn't work. I've tried topping up on different trips, failed multiple times seemingly at random. Now it won't even log in, don't use this if you value your time.
In October 2019, the app would not let me top up and would simply go through the process of scanning my debit card, getting it verified by Visa and then repeating the stages again in a never ending loop until I became frustrated and uninstalled. Come February 2020, got a new phone, got a new trip planned, and reinstalled the app with hope that it would work. It did not. Same issues again, despite uninstalling and reinstalling. I give up!
I have called and emailed customer service multiple times about being unable to top up my card on the website or app. Guess what I was told to do? Use the app that doesn't work. They also have terrible customer service. I have requested 3 times to have my information changed and they changed it to the completely wrong information twice! Incorrect email, name, after I spelled it for them and they spelled it back, twice! Prior to now I had no problems. I'm canceling when I return to the States.
I never leave reviews but this service has failed some users. I acquired the card on the way to London. I liked the ease of use and the ability to transfer funds. 2 years later and I find that the company no longer services the US. NOT ONLY did they not reach out to anyone effected (I happened to visit their site which is how I found out) but there was no offer of cash out or other options. Plus I am now being charged for a non use fee during a pandemic when I cannot travel;hence ⭐⭐
Abysmal, dire, terrible. It simply does not work, takes and age to update balance upon login. Then there is the top up, it doesnt work, ive attempted topups many times only for the app to say, unfortunately we cannot top up at this time. Then you try the website it works, very slowly but it works. This app and card is a waste of your. It cannot be depended upon when you need to topup on holiday or any other reason. Which makes it utterly pointless..
This app started off ok. Then I noticed it started taking longer to log in and top up. Then it started to not even give you the option to log in, just immediately opens with an 'oops somethjng went wrong' - this is after 3 uninstall and reinstallation's of the app and perfectly stable wifi and tried on data too. Whats going on? This isn't good enough for travelling customers.
First time using a currency card and for the first 2 weeks it was great, instant cash, used several atms, paid for things online. But now hit the same problem as the users below. I can't top it up using the app, which makes it pointless as I now have to use my bank card, which is what I wanted to avoid. It looks like it will work and then you get caught in a never ending cycle of reviewing your order, entering bank codes, blank screens and back to reviewing order. so annoying!
Worked brilliantl for me on my visit to the USA in April. Topped up when I got the card and topped up again when I was out there. Just about to go to South Africa and found that I was able to transfer the small remaining balance from USD to ZAR. 👍 Tried multiple times to top up and it fails every time after my banks security verification page. 👎 Looking at the other reviews I can see that others are having similar problems. Something must have gone wrong with the last app update. Please fix it.
When it works it's fine and the transaction history is useful. But topping up via the app is a frustrating and hit or miss experience. Sometimes it works, sometimes it hangs and won't top up. Unnecessarily stressful - especially when abroad. Hard to feel you can rely on it
Transfering money is a nightmare. Takes forever for anything to load. But the card does work and i can make payments with no fees overseas. Also make sure you pull out any leftover money even if you plan to use it next year as they charge you a "no use fee" every month. Had $100 USD in there for my next trip and I've lost $50 to these fees 😑
Tried to buy a pre paid card but won't go through. Tried online and still no card. Had to reserve cash which is what I was trying to avoid. This used to be a great service but not anymore.
Do not use this currency service. My wife went to Italy for our honeymoon and had a multitude of issues with Travelex. We intended to transfer the days budget onto the card instead of the entire duration of the honeymoon, just in case it was stolen. We were never able to do that however do due to some serious issues with the app. I also called multiple times and tried to add funds, but was kept on hold indefinitely and wasn't able to add anything. We ended up using local ATMs. Very disappointed.
when topping up, you may have to verify payment in another banks app. when you come out of this app it cancels the transaction...
Everything was fine, although it's more straight forward to use a bank travel card - you don't have a service fee to pay for immediate top ups. But on getting back home I discovered that Travelex charges a flat fee of $10 to convert any overseas currency to your home currency. Financial institutions again just charging for no service. I've cut up my card.
Easy to check balances and top up card. not very good without WiFi.
The app never opens. 'Oops something went wrong, try again later" but I've tried for two days. I even restarted my phone. There's no option to load online, so I'm basically screwed. Now I'm wondering if the funds already loaded at the kiosk will be accessible when I get overseas. Terrible app!
An app that makes the service... slightly worse? You know when you just want something simple to help you do something you are already doing on a website but, like, in an app? This is NOT that app. This is the other kind of app that makes things that little bit more confusing and a little bit more clunky that it was before. It's not super horrible, but dont rely on it to do anything that you couldn't already do via the (gramatically nightmarish) travelex "my account"
Downloaded the app 1st time around and got all the way through to top up card and it wouldn't let me go further. Uninstalled and reinstalled now it won't even open the app. It just says oops. Try again. The website is just as useless, and so is the support. Have been trying to reload my card for 3 days. Would have given zero stars if possible.
A dreadful app that will not you register... Go online to travelex and get a terrible exchange rate. Go to the travelex kiosk a LHR T2 and try and change USA $280 and get £161 and a £48 fee for the transaction!
Downloaded latest version from store on both a Samsung tablet and HTC phone no worries. Soon as I click on App for what country I get a message 'Oops something went wrong try again later'. Still doesn't work later. Have uninstalled and reloaded etc to no avail. No other problems with other apps.
The app has been working fine for me until today and now I cant top up or even open the app, very disappointing. I've tried logging onto the website and its not easy to top up like it is on the app, I still havent worked out how to top up. I don't have a computer as the man the on the phone suggested because I'm travelling. I can only use my mobile. The app should get the updates its needs so it works. Disappointing!
This app used to be good but the last week have been unable to top up. I go through the pay and security sequence and nothing happens, even after reinstalling the app. The helplines are no use either as none that I tried worked. Sort this out Travelex, you are supposed to be one of the best at this.
Get frustrated trying to top up and what if it was an emergency, so not happy. I looked at other reviews, this app has been having the same issues as far back as October, why hasn't this been fixed??????????? I emailed the help line and was told to end the old app and redo it again. This app still doesn't allpow me to reload. Going to cancelled for good and look for another option, can't be bothered with this anymore. My family are still waiting for the money
Can someone please tell me what has happened to this app?? I have enjoyed using it up until December, but now all I'm getting are errors messages (like many others on here) sayings "oops something has gone wrong, pls try again" which I have done repeatedly and no change. I uninstalled and just reinstalled, however it's even worse than before, at the first touch an error message pops up. Will be uninstalling again. Not happy at all
Stay away from this app! Worked for the first 7 days, byt for the past 4 days i cant top up. I am now forced to use my regular keycard for which i get high overseas transaction fees, i should have just got my banks travel card.. Lesson learned! Id rather not get a reply to this because all you do is tell people to send an email, seems pointless because when i looked back through the reviews, it is apparent that this has been going on for over 12 months and no one has bothered to fix it.
Terrible app that never works!! Always when I try to top up it says its not working right now, or if it does work it asks me to verify with my bank app, I go off the app to verify and when I come back its forgot the whole order ! Not to mention how many times it asks me for email code verification, sometimes times in a row because it forgets again! Piece of trash app, please fix it or you will lose my custom completely
