Perfect. Gives clear identification and detailed descriptions for all principal UK tree species, in a well laid out A-Z, or easy to use feature recognition format..
Great app. Wish it had more species, or let me add my own. Also, I think it shouldnt discount certain questions based on previous answers. For example. It I choose a tree with a certain leaf type, I should not have options limited later when it comes to bark type. Rather. All options should be available, and more tree species listed if you give inconsistent answers. That way the user is more likely to find the right tree, and also, they get to use a bit of their own intuition.
Map kept crashing. I added a tree with photos but it came to nothing. The lack of trees on the map may be an indication that the app does not function as intended. It gave me incorrect information on trees to the point that I couldn't trust its accuracy. It needs developing, I hope it is maintained and improved because it could be an excellent tool.
Excellent app for identifying British trees. If you find something that isn't in the app is probably a foreign plant. The map of local trees is good, they seem to have fixed the GPS inaccuracy. Still got room for improvement but an excellent app. My biggest problem is closing a lead shape, wish there were fewer options of more general leaf shapes before the more detailed questions.
This is awful. Here's why: Excellent: Mapping Feature, easy to use and helpful. Appalling: Search Feature, despite using common names and scientific, aswell as spell checking and referencing, half of almost everything never turns up, It only identifies a 50% of anything. Stupidly bad: Tree Identification feature, it never works and the reference pictures are never what I'm looking for. Dad had the same problem. Good: Asthetics, The app looks good.
The identification questions, selected by the app based on the clues you tell it you see in front of you, work well and intuitively. It would be nice if it were tolerant of mistaken answers, though (e.g. if a leaf looks somewhere between elliptical and oblong, and I answer elliptical but the database says it's oblong, the correct tree won't be listed as a possible match). Its database of possible tree species could be larger, too. The map of notable trees is data-hungry and crashed on me.
I found the app a bit confusing to use and many of the terms used were not clear to me. Often there wasn't a clear answer to a question though perhaps that's just my lack of observation. Navigation was a bit cumbersome in that you selected an answer and then clicked continue. I couldn't find the home button either. I'd of preferred it if questions with easy answers were asked first rather than giving you that nagging doubt that you'd gone down the wrong rabbit hole. Another approach might be to know where the user is walking and then grab the common trees in that area or even the names for all the individual trees in that area. These identifications could come from other users of the app. This could be expanded to ask trusted users how many of a type of tree there are in the immediate vicinity and so do a real time count of trees by type. Maybe even offer a search for the nearest tree of a certain type. Perhaps even interesting trees in your local area. Using the app we could only identify half the common trees in our area which was a bit disappointing.
Identification doesn't really work well especially when you don't have a lot to go on. You tell it the leaves are opposite and then it tells you it must be something that clearly has alternating leaves. You say the leaves are long so it tells you you've got a monkey puzzle as if you could possibly mix that up with a willow. Would prefer it kept options open instead of jumping to ridiculous conclusions.
This is quite a handy app when I'm out walking through Dalby, but I feel like it could do with many more trees. There are some trees that, when I've been out walking, haven't been registered by the app. It could do with a camera search feature (like Google Lens) that can identify trees from sight. And more info on the already registered trees would be even better.
Quite a good app. Covers many trees and is fairly easy to use and navigate. On the downside, however, the app is rather large and takes up a lot of space on the device, and it asks for quite a few permissions that I wasn't expecting when I downloaded it.
It's a decent enough mini field guide, although the ID system is a bit random. More significantly, version 3.05 is broken for me - crashes on launch. As a Woodland Trust member of many years, I really want this to be good!
Great to take on walks: fast-loading and easy to use. Identify by feature works really well, and trains you in what questions to ask to become more observant. Info on uses, properties, wildlife habitat, diseases, mythology and folklore, etc.is fascinating.
helps you to quickly find the tree in question using the powers of deduction. and it has a lot of good information on many of the tree's. I did think the uses for the wood could be improved, ie dogwood can be coppiced and used as arrow shafts but all that was mentioned in its uses was it ornamental purpose. anyway, great app.
Enjoying it so far! Seems to have troubles with loading the notes bit though. Fun for tree identification, but needs developing a bit more. Would like more trees to be added, for it to be even more specific. Seem to have a pink blossom tree I can't identify.
Terrible. Even when i knew what i was identifying (by leaf) i couldnt get the right answer. So now i cant trust it with the trees i don't know. Some kind of willow... guesses at anything but willow. Whitebeam... nope can't get it right there either. And I'd go back to change some answers I was unsure of and I still cant make it work. Faster to just scroll through the entire list and see if it is what you think it might be. Needs a lot of improvement.
Great app to help identify trees and to see which species I may come across. However, the tree ID feature dosent always narrow down to the correct tree and often leaves me with multiple different ones which isn't always useful.
The app was disappointing because you need to go through a whole set of questions to identify the tree, but then it identifies the tree wrongly. Eg it said my magnolia tree is a box, which is obviously wrong. Then it said some other tree was a plum, no matter what colour and shape of leaf I inputted. I was expecting it to use the camera on my phone in some way, but it didn't. Basically frustrating
A great idea for an app, it is a little clunky to use sometimes but is a great way to get people interested in trees. My only complaint is the limited number species on the app, we have many trees in our 2 acre wooded garden that are not listed, like the Catalpa, Tree of Heaven, Round Leaf Whitebeam, Weeping Willow, Paper Birch, Monarch Birch, Purple Willow, Laburnum etc. so having a greater number/more comprehensive list of trees would be great.
25% of the time, it works every time. Very limited number of trees in data bank (I guess this is more for UK trees rather than trees found in UK?). Winter ID is awful. Identifies oak, birch and monkey puzzle well though! Look forward to updates particularly on barks and additional species.
A great app which taught me to identify the common trees in my area. Easy to use, works fine offline and has plenty of info and pictures. However it only lists 76 trees so it's no good for shrubs and rare or non native trees
Absolutely rubbish. You'd expect the main UK tree 'experts' to get it right? Release an app with so many complaints and not even bother to answer them.. so rude. 5 friends tried to ID 3 simple trees and it failed on 2 pretty basic ones. Very dissapointed on so many levels.
Very simple, intuitive, and ftom my experience do far, accurate, identification of trees. I love all the additional information on each species, like today I learnt from this app that truffles grow in beech forests in symbiosis to the beech trees.
Looks like a great app but unfortunately it crashes and stops repeatedly on Pixel 6 Pro. Particularly the A to Z and after clicking the map.
