Trimlight

TL;DR: lights are expensive but the app sucks, NEEDS UPDATE The UI is very basic and could definitely be updated. The controls on the app work well but could use a couple changes. When you open the app and connect to your lights it automatically turns the lights on and on to the same (I guess you could say "default") rainbow pattern. I find this to be a little annoying because I might not want to turn them on every single time I open the app, like if I am just adding/editing a schedule, etc.

I got my lights installed a couple weeks ago, and I love 'em, and the app is pretty good too. It does the basics very well indeed. I've seen comments elsewhere in here about the app being buggy or having trouble maintaining a connection, but I haven't had any difficulty so far. The app's calendar functions are a bit hit and miss. It manages date-and-time schedules well, but falls short on events with variable or lunar calendar dates such as "First Monday in October," "Easter Monday," "First night of Hanukkah," "The nearest weekday to the 15th of the month," etc. It's amazing how many significant dates are like that! So, in summary: Very good app, but there's room for some upgrading.

The lights on this system are truly brilliant to look at. However, it is ludicrous to pay this much for a system with so many limitations. First, you can only connect one device. Second, the app crashes constantly and you will probably need to buy a range extender to reach the garage for the weak controller. Last, any light controller from your local store will have more programming options than this high-end system. There should be options for fully-programmed evenings of ever changing lights.

Love the product, don't love the app... Needs to be able to be accessed via mobile data, not just WiFi. When you're using the app to design your light scheme, you're likely standing out on the street so that you can see what you're doing... My WiFi doesn't reach out to the street, so a LOT of back and forth to make changes is frustrating.

Lights are great but the app sucks. We set a schedule and it works for a few days then all of the sudden you can't change anything with the schedule and the lights just go static no matter what options you choose. If you have movement you can't get them to move on the timer. Even if you change the light pattern and save the schedule it doesn't work.

Trimlights are AWESOME! The Trimlight app is disappointing. The app is difficult to use. Navigation between preset patterns moves too quickly, and a user can scroll past 20-30 presets unintentionally. The schedule selection doesn't work. The lights did not turn on and off at the selected time. If you've ever used an app for any home automation: lights, alarm, garage, door locks, cameras, or anything... this app will not live up to that. With all that said, I'd still purchase Trimlights.

Firstly, Im a trimlight installer, the product is quite good, controller has nice features, but this software needs some serious updating and features added, biggest one, save the devices it finds, nothing worse than opening the app and having to wait for it to find your own controller... Every time. Second, why not an 'off' button on the screen. Also, it's annoying to have a pattern running and as soon as you open the app and connect it switches to rainbow chase. Wait for a change.

I was already excited to have Trimlight on my home after seeing how much my neighbors loved it. But I have to say the app is just as impressive! It gives me so many options to change my lights for different holidays and occasions. It's easy to run and I really like the calendar function so I can program my lights months in advance, very cool!

We've had trimlights for a couple of yrs now and we love them but the app is so outdated. I really would like to be able to have them move & fade or have them twinkle or flash instead of move sometimes, I also can't get it to chase out from the middle, it just goes one way. Can we please get another update, it's been since 2019 since the last update. Please add some new features and make the app more updated and not so complicated! I can work it, but it'd be nice to have a newer version!

We love the lights so much, but this app is just disappointing. In a time where automation is so strong with so many vendors and open source communities, this app is so clunky it is almost painful to use. Biggest improvements I think that could help: 1. Add color wheel in addition to hex color codes 2. Calendar - either add the ability to select multiple days when setting up a calendar event or allow copy/paste between days 3. Save the device once it is found. The delay when searching is bad

The lights themselves are amazing, the app.. it could use some updating. It's constantly disconnecting myself and my husband from our lights and I wish there were more pattern options than just moving front to back and flashing, like random twinkle or picking what light to flash and what one to stay solid. Just more options in general would be nice. Or the ability to change the colors in the pre set patterns.

Frustrating user experience. Have to "refresh/rescan" a dozen times before it will find & connect (my wifi is plenty strong). No color wheel, have to create custom colors by typing in RGB (0-255) values. The UI to create/edit calendar events is clunky. I'm a GUI designer & 30 year IT professional and yes I can coerce this app to do what I want but it's frustrating to me so I can't imagine that the average person is going to have an enjoyable experience trying to configure their system.

I had the Trimlight system installed on our home yesterday. From the very start we had issues trying to connect my Android phone to the Trimlight WiFi. They had to connect their phone (iphone) to our home WiFi to connect to trimlight. That worked for a while. Last night it disconnected. I could not get my phone to connect in auto or manual to the Trimlight. They returned today and had to connect using his phone again. This Android app needs work. Please fix it.

I had the older system of trimlight that used remote controls to to run the system and it worked beautifully for 6 years. I upgraded the System 2 and 1/2 weeks ago and have not been able to make it work one single time. This has been very frustrating and at this point I'm ready to rip it all out.

Could definitely be updated to be more user friendly and to allow more color combination(pattern library) saves. I cannot save any more names in my pattern library. I'm limited to 28 names in the Pattern Library. I cannot rename something already saved to the Pattern Library if I want to create and overwrite. There is no customer service to help with this problem.

Love the new app. Extremely easy to use and very functional while at the same time allowing a geek like me to completely customize the color profiles, patterns, brightness, etc. Now I can decide what I want to show on my house and when with the built in schedules, calendar and timer feature! Love my trimlight setup!

The app almost never connects to my Trimlight lights. I've given my Trimlight a reserved IP address so that it's always the same and the app still won't connect. The app needs to be FIXED and also needs a setting to input the the IP address since the app is unable to find the Trimlight controller. The controller does respond to ping so I know it's on my network. At the cost of installing Trimlight I think I'd pass if I knew how flakey this system is!

The lights are great, but the app stinks. The app almost never finds the controller and there's no ability to manually enter the tcp/IP address even though the controller responds to ping. Also the drag and drop of colors to create a custom light configuration is problematic at best. This app NEEDS WORK to be ready for prime time!

We had Trimlight installed a year ago. It has been working very well since July of 2019. This evening 08/29/20 a different story. The lights turned on for no reason and the selection isn't anything we have ever set up. The app/power box would not turn the lights off. Our schedule didn't even have August set up. It doesn't allow you to turn off the lights when this happens!! They don't have round the clock service except answering service. We're stuck with unwanted lights till they open!

Doesn't work on google pixel phones!! Still! Apparently they were working on this but it still doesn't work. That is what my parents have and I have a different android, so they have to use my phone to change the lights. Editing and creating new color things is not very simple. You can't delete color schemes that you have created. And the colors don't look like they should. Very disappointed and frustrated.

The daily schedule does not work. I have led can lights that I would like on a daily schedule. It never works. I have to schedule it as an event each month wich is annoying. I have three light stations and it will not find one of the stations 90‰ of the time. Movement inside of the app is cumbersome. No daily sunset and sunrise option that syncs with a weather app. If the lights had a wired ethernet option communication between the app and systembe would bemore reliable.

Not worth price. Need to continually update app and light functionality to stay competitive with Gem and Jelly Fish lights. Their lights and app have the ability to make lights brighter than Trimlights and they have more patterns...their app is updated with new options several times a year.

installer turned the lights on yesterday and set a on and off time using my phone. At the set time nothing happened. I read the instructions and what it says and what shows up does not match. I cannot turn them on now. Instructions tell you to turn something in the box and they told me we should never go into the box. It is just another computer problem that should not be there..

Won't stay connected to the lights in wi-fi. Wish lights came with a remote controller instead of having to use your phone. Or better yet have the app work. The people are great the lights look good but the app is terrible.

Updated 11/27: good to see that the app owner responded to reviews. I updated the app. I am not sure if it's the problem of Android or my home wireless network. I'm using Linksys velop mesh network. Anyway I still cannot connect it to my home wifi. Bumping to 3 stars for the effort from the app owner. Looking forward to more fixes.

Have to download and uninstall weekly, app doesn't ever find the device. Set scheduled times for lights to turn on,, doesn't work. Can't turn off lights with new updated app. Paid for lights, with no functional app. Any suggestions on what we could be doing wrong??

This app is not user friendly, I have several programmed events, but the next night after my event I just get a random pattern and it takes forever to turn it off! There is not even a place in the app to turn off the lights!!!

App royally sucks, takes way too long to connect if and when it does finally connect to the devices. Then once it's done it's even more cumbersome to set colors/delete patterns/programmed colors.

I have had the lights and the app for a little while and the lights are awesome, the app not so much. It works, but just barely. My fear is that after spending A LOT of money on the lights that this is as good as it will get. There is no financial incentive to upgrade the app. They make no money off the app, they make their money off lights. If things get fixed I will happily update my review. As of now, I am disappointed in the execution of the app.

These lights are so much fun! My clients have raved about how much easier to use this is than any other system they've looked at or used. The calendar function in particular is so convenient.
