Problems are nice but not accurately ranked, which is unfortunate. Also, some don't show white's optimal defence. But what i miss the most is the possibility to edit problems or import my own. I'd pay for this feature and rate the app 5 stars, although it should be fairly easy to implement. Since I paid and i'll have all future problems for free, why can't I import some ? Thanks.

so, i dont want to be negative. this app is great it doesnt have any crazy ads (yet) and has great content. the only problem is that when trying to solve a puzzle, if you make a mistake, the back button doesnt work all the time... also, some puzzles wont say they are completed, but when i try every single available move, it doesnt accept any of them.

It's a great app for practicing go problems, new problems are given daily. Nice clean interface. It would be 5 stars if there was more explanation to the solutions, especially the harder ones as it's often not clear why a move is correct or considered wrong. You have to play out all the variations yourself, which is a good skill to learn but a little help would be nice for a beginner like me :)

The puzzles are fairly standard, but still very useful for recognizing shapes and improving your game. The ranking system is fun to play with, and the puzzles with multiple solutions let you check each of them which alsi helps you improve. The biggest ptoblem, and the only thing keeping this app from a five star rating, is the fact that the puzzle selectiin is very limited unless you put money into it.

The game is fine. The basic levels are good for new learners. But there is a problem, the moves sequence are fixed and any deviation from what is programmed is counted as a wrong move. There are many scenarios where there are more than 1 sequence of moves that can solve the problem, especially at the basic levels. But playing a sequence different from the programmed one causes the game to get stuck until the player figures out the developer's moves.

I'm back to studying, like many here, after some time away. These problems can be some real head scratchers. Most have at least one core lesson to figure out. It might be counting libert ies, making good shape, seizing sente, and the like. I also appreciate that the computer responds differently when you revisit some problems. I find the app is helpful alongside other study tools. You've definitely got to reach upward to learn from the app, but as the devs point out that effort is necessary.

Allows you to play on past completion of the problem. You can play and replay from the starting position and it will continue to indicate optimal plays when you want if you get stuck. I enjoy figuring out why the position is solved on my own, and that being easy with this app. I'm a beginner but find it better than the others I've tried.

Great app, and the free version doesn't feel limited at all. You start with 150 problems, plus a few more daily ones. Even if you never buy anything, the dailies ensure you can always practice a little, though I did decide it was worth paying after working through the 50 beginner problems. Features are basic but good. You can step backward and forward through a problem to understand it better (especially good if you used a hint), and it responds well to alternate solutions when they exist.

These are great puzzles! I am just starting to learn Go. And this is perfect. Help can show you the suggested solutions, but even after a problem is 'Solved', I might not see how to play out the resulting situation. The game stops help or opponent responses after 'Solved' -- but you can continue to place pieces on the board, playing both black and white, and the game is still active, blocking illegal moves and capturing stones as usual. This feature alone is a huge help in learning. Go play!

It functions but it could take notes from programs like badukpop. Badukpop is set up so that if you fail to placements you fail the problem and move on to the next. It makes it feel more important because there is a chance of failure. This program makes it so that you can just retry all your options until you stumble across the right answer. If you are already fairly comfortable with tsumego problems this app is fine but if you are learning I recommend badukpop.

A nice game. In the progress mode there seems to be bug. I have chosen all three sources, but regardless how far I get only 34% of basic problems appear, even if I solve everything correctly. No problems from intermediate or advanced, or any of the remaining 66% from basic. Now at 2 dan rating I'm yet to see any intermediate problems.

It could use explanations of the intended goal in each problem. I'm also not a fan of how they dripfeed you with new problems each day instead of just giving you access to their whole library, and admitting that they don't have (many?) more. People aren't coming up with new go problems THAT quickly. Otherwise, it's pretty good though.

Though it doesn't do anything in the way of teaching Go techniques exclusively, it does however help augment certain types of play by fierce repetition, making it a very good app for practicing. In my opinion the greatest short coming of the app is the lack of instructions on certain problems which can have multiple outcomes based on how the pieces are initially places, but the app completely ignored all other possibilities and only allows for one solution.

Eri. W. Jun 23, 2019

So this game gives no instructions and does not hold your hand. The only help it does give is the actual help button to show you your best next move. That being said this is an amazing app that does exactly what the title says (and nothing more). There is no frill or anything unnecessary. I fully intend to buy the additional, optional problems to support the developer(s).

Edit: I had to lower my score because I bought the "Basic Tesuji" pack and it erased my access to the Advanced problems. This app is helping me get much better at go. I tried it once before and didn't know what to do with it because it had no instructions, but I looked up the rules and learned some basics online and now it's a great resource. It's good that it doesn't tell you exactly what to do because you have to figure out how the board looks by yourself

I enjoy using the app. The UI and settings are nice. As others mentioned, it would be great to have some explanations or more clear connection between the problems, the rank and the required skills or the idea behind each problem.

Fantastic tool for Go study. Straightforward access to a wide range of Tsumego with no frills. The "daily problems" tab keeps it feeling fresh, giving the extra nudge I need to study at least a little every day. The simplicity is achieved with the assumption that the user already understands the basics of Go study through Tsumego - as such, this app is not appropriate for absolute beginners. It's a study tool for those who already know what they want.

A big selection, but it doesn't remember when you have done them, and several are wrong! The explore option is good so it's ok....Go is massively more subtle, more intelligent, and more unpredictable/switchbacky than any other game ...like the yin Yang of real life, only more so!

Ter. J. Jan 14, 2021

Amazing and really fun. I am learning Go off this and it has improved my skills. The customizations are clear and simple, no fluff, which is a good thing. If there is one thing I may ask the developers is: could you consider adding an option to delay time when the ai is placing the stone in response to yours ie either 1sec, 2sec or 3sec? Thank you for putting so much effort into this!

Bra. C. Sep 6, 2020

Not useful to a beginner. The app's frustratingly obtuse lack of in-game text to explain what the goal of a given problem is, or provide feedback as to why a wrong move IS wrong, creates needless frustration that makes the app unpleasant to use and reduces interaction to a muddling, inefficient trial and error. Half the time I finish a problem, I'm no clearer on the principles behind it than I was when I started. If you want to teach, teach; otherwise you're just making a bad puzzle game.

Great way to learn and sharpen Go skills in bite-size pieces. The scenarios are realistic and well organized by difficulty. A very fun app that's well worth having.

Super helpful to get a feel for successful shape and eyes in a tight situation. Using ko's and seeing the way to use up your opponents liberties are some of the skills that will improve with this app.

Mit. G. Mar 6, 2022

I love the app and get a good amount of use from it now, but when I was a very beginner there was a curve I couldn't get over for awhile. I think some basic capture pattern puzzles to get a solid groundwork would make this app pretty much perfect.

Mic. L. Jan 15, 2021

Pros: Ticks all the boxes for a solid tsumego app. Multiple playouts per problem (inc "wrong" paths). Explore and browse mode avail with no timegate/paywall. Graded problem sets. Expanded set w/ pro version. Cons: often see repeat problems (same shape different rotation). Some problems incorrectly tiered in difficulty esp in ladder/grading mode. Hope to see larger problem database for Pro version.

This app is really well done and no fuss! I started using this app years ago as a beginner and the basic problems accelerated my tsumego skills. I used to hate tsumego because even the 'basic' problems were difficult. Now the 'intermediate' problems are difficult but I enjoy the process of carefully reading (and getting stuck!) as a 5 kyu and has become morning routine. Love the new daily problems and reasonably priced expansion packs! Thank you devs! Would be nice to know for ko or seki

Ron. A. Aug 27, 2019

Easy to play and buttons are intuitive. I wish it had a way to go back to the home page so I could complete the medium daily puzzle after finishing the easy daily problem. Other than that It is a great tool to improve go play. Keep it up.

Fre. S. Jul 1, 2021

Very good tsumego. The difficulty rating doesn't agree well with my ability. Some "easy" problems seem rather difficult, and some "intermediate" problems simple. I've enjoyed working on their daily puzzles for the last six months.
