What was once a really well made app, was fun to use and worked well has gone down hill. At this point the back button doesn't take you to where you were previously but rather back to the top of your feed and refreshes it. And one major issue is the fact that I can't follow anyone on it, tapping the follow button makes the option disappear for about 10 seconds before it returns. After further testing this I've found that it doesn't actually work whatsoever meaning I cannot follow anybody.
Okay so my biggest complaint was that when you use the mobile app version, if you try to type up a post, ultimately even when you go to save a draft it errors and you lose your whole thing. This didn't happen for a while and now it's back to happening. Every time I try to write something out, first it might suddenly erase the last few paragraphs of something and then when I get frustrated and I'm just going to save it in a draft to work on on a laptop, it errors and deletes my whole thing.
Love the site itself as online communities go; it's unusual in the ease of activating a chronological feed and limiting posts on that feed to be from sources you chose to see, while you have the separate tab curated by the algorithm if you ever want that. There are some surprising quality of life features that you may have to discover (like tap and hold the repost button to have a quick menu for queuing etc), but they work well. Only very heavy gif posts lag, glitching fast typing in tags.
It's a very good app for artist and for those who just want to share their thoughts on something. It can be quite laggy sometime but it's still acceptable. The devs also very active in updating the app so that's also rare for you to see in other social apps. The only thing that is bothering me is the color palette. The color you provide is not pleasing to my eyes. Some of the color makes it harder for me to see where's the back and toggle button. At least provide us the white mode back.
App is nice for scrolling and casually browsing or reviewing old posts. For the most part the options for creating posts with text, photos, videos and all that are great. But I enjoy posting quotes and there's really no function to distinguish it from a regular text post. I would prefer to have my quotes formatted as quotes and not text. For now I've been posting quotes from my computer but it would be nice to have the same feature in the app.
They are now allowing advertisers to flood the system with a million duplicates of the same ad so the "hide ad" function doesn't work, as evidenced by every one of the ads having a different number of 'likes' and no matter how many times you try to hide it, it comes up again. I'm talking about the super annoying VideoPress ad. I wasn't interested the first time or the hundredth time either. Just obnoxious.
App worked well for a while, but recently I've been getting so many "the connection is unstable," or "something went wrong," as to make the app unusable. For context, my internet is fine and other apps work correctly. The recent update has not helped and if anything has made things worse. I've also tried reinstalling, to no avail
I really enjoyed the app... BUT for the past few days it has been acting weird and I wasn't sure if it was because of Tumblr changes. 1) When I type tags, letters stick; 2) my messages tab is gone; 3) I don't receive any notifications about my activities or anything anymore; and 4) I can't reply on any posts at all anymore. I unistalled and installed the app again. I also logged into my account through a web browser in case it was an app issue. No luck Please fix it. Thank you!
Changed my rating from 1 star to 4 because over the past years tumblr has actually worked hard to improve the app. It no longer crashes, it no longer randomly eats posts (unless you have a weird file type in there, check the file type before you upload an image), it doesn't tell me my connection is nonexistent if there's a light breeze anymore. The features they've recently added are things tumblr users will actually use. I like it
I like the app overall, but it really needs to be easier to switch between accounts. For example, in Instagram, all I have to do to switch between my personal account and a page I manage is double-tap the profile picture. I'd love something like that in this app.
It works best if you pay for no adds, but otherwise your experience with the app will depend entirely on your experience with tumblr in general. Also, it seems like the developers are kind of scared to touch the coding for the app, so most of the glitches that happen on the browser don't happen here. Since tumblr changes ownership, the app has crashed less, and functionality has gone up.
I love the app and how simple it is to navigate. BUT, would it be alright to add a feature where the page doesn't refresh and start from the beginning if you haven't interacted with it for more than 2 hours? It's a major pain to have to continuously scroll back to where you once were on a tag especially if more posts were added. Hopefully this made sense. Edit: and PLEASE add a sorter for liked posts, oldest to newest vice versa
I really enjoy this app, but I'm tired of it being constantly shown ads about shaving balls. Even when I click the stop showing this ad. It's always there. Like I get ads are a thing on a site, helps keep site running and all, but I'm tired of the same manscaping ad all over it after click stop showing me this ad about 30 times now.
The app has been continuously crashing. I open it, it crashes. As other reviews mentioned I too think it's the ads. As everytime I scroll past them the app freezes. It also happens with videos and gifs. I have the app open for less then a minute before it freezes.
Been using Tumblr for more than 8 years. Seen it all. The ups and down. It's the only social media site I use. Staff have stepped up a lot. Don't want to go anywhere else. It gives me everything I need. Chronological feed, no algorithm, a tagging system that kinda works but is so much better than anywhere else, and is still a place for creatives. I hope to be on it for another 8 more years.
I've had Tumblr for years now. All throughout my 20's Tumblr was definitely something I kept close to me. Now that I'm about to be in my 30s things have slowed down for me in the Tumblr world. Its still just as great, if not better, than when I first started writing, sharing, reposting, and all the other great stuff it allows you to do. I reccomend this app for writers and photographers. People that are creative and feel like their voice isn't heard. (It will be heard on this app.)
I've been using the app for a while and it worked just fine, but lately I just can't log in. At first I could only use it with a WiFi connection, but now it doesn't even let me use it without saying that my connection is the problem when it's not. It has all the permissions and I just deleted and reinstalled the app and it still doesn't work. Fix it.
Some blog update notifications work absolutely fine but there's some blogs that don't. They aren't shadow banned or anything. Other people get their notifications fine, but some people, like me, don't get the notifications. I've tried re-following them and re-downloading the app but nothing works. Otherwise this app is amazing. < 3
Man. Alright, I've been using tumblr mobile for years..years I tell you. This recent update is crud and I wish I could figure out a way to revert back to the prior update cause the app won't even stay open for a minute before freezing, glitching, or crashing on me in some way now. I even uninstalled the app and installed it again. Can y'all fix this please?
I have only recently discovered Tumblr and I love it. Probably spend way too much time simply browsing through people's amazing artworks but it's a fantastic sharing platform! Of course the ads can be annoying but I appreciate this is all part and parcel of the social media thing, so won't hold that against the app. Easy to use too.
Tumblr has a special place in my heart, and I hope it never changes (except for some things). Your experience with it really depends on what u choose to do and surround urself with. It's very anonymous, and not so concerned with trends. Like I think many users do, I come back to Tumblr after long periods of time, and every time I do, I'm not overwhelmed or regretful. Changing what appears on ur dashboard (feed) is pretty easy, and it's easy to randomly find a blog that is just your taste.
What I love the most about this app is the UI. The design was user friendly and unique from other social media platforms. I hope it stays like this. Sometimes, not going with trend apps like twitter/ facebook can be a good thing as long as it serves its real purpose, to disseminate information, arts , etc without being too complicated and having toxic environment.
Whatever is going on with their new staff, keep it up. Actually listening to what users want, fixing the glitches that had been there for so long they were practically features themselves, the open line of communication with staff again. Tumblr got pretty bad for a few years, but everything they're doing now has it on the up and up again.
Ever since the app updated, it keeps glitching out, freezing, and crashing every time I scroll on my dash. I suspect it has something to do with the ads, it seems to act up when I try to scroll past them. I get a similar effect sometimes with GIFs but it isn't as bad as with the ads. It's made the app virtually unusable, which is really sad for me since it's currently the only way I can access Tumblr and I've been a member since 2012.
