This is a great app. The best tuning app I've used. In fact, tuning is only one of the many things it does well. Can't give it 5 stars because as of around 4 months ago it stutters while tuning. As in, when I play notes into the microphone. It sill works, but it kind of cuts in and out. I've been hoping that it will be fixed in an update but it's been updated several times and the problem persists. Pixel 2 XL. Edit: Latest update fixed my issue. Changed score to 5 stars. Thanks.
After trying so many free tuners and having poor luck with them, I was reluctant to pay for Tunable, but the recommendation came from a trustworthy source, so I took a leap of faith and haven't regretted it. Tunable is an excellent tuner app. My one complaint is the same one I've had with every tuner app I've tried, and that is that I can't tune AND record my rehearsals/ practice sessions at the same time. I'm not sure if that's something they can fix with time or not...
Sadly this app has become completely unusable for me. The metronome "crackles" the entire time, and I've tried a bunch of different sounds/settings to see if some do or don't, but no matter what settings I've tried, it's not doing the job I PAID for it to do. Samsung Galaxy S8. -- The other issue I have with it is that it appears designed for tablets, and I use on my phone. The controls for changing the tempo for the metronome are very hard to use. The "slider" doesn't stay in one place so it's hard to get the exact tempo, and the +/- buttons are so tiny it's more likely I'll pull down the notification bar instead of changing the tempo.
This has been my favorite tuner for a while now. It's super precise and the interface really helps to visualize your tuning correctly. However, now that I play an A somehow it registers it as an A flat, which is weird, because I used my old tuner and it was right. It seems like this update registers everything as a semi tone flat, because it hasn't happened before. I even checked if the parameters were in the right place.
Does what it says. It has an amazing easy to use a swish looking UI. Tuner is acurate and as a brass player, it's great to practice keeping notes centred and in the 'green' across all dynamics and across the register. Only issue I have had is that occasionally the tuner freezes and the app has to be force stopped although I have not encountered this in quite a few months so I think the issue has been resolved.
This is a great app, but it does not work for me. The microphone is always picking up static and notes I play become distorted and unrecognisable when using the record function. Even after tweaking the microphone settings nothing seems to work. It is not my phone hardware's problem as other tuners such as soundcorset works perfectly. Please help. Edit: contacted developers and they solved problem.
Honestly most everything on here is pretty great. The tuning part can hear some of my lower notes on bass trombone, which some apps can't. The metronome can be a bit confusing to use at first, but is otherwise great. Only thing is sometimes the app stops working on my pixel 3xl when an update comes out and it can take a bit for an update to come along and fix it.
User-friendly enough for my students to use, and sufficient for pros as well. That plus the ability to play multiple drone notes at once is what makes this the best tuner/metronome app I've found. Also, since covid I've used the record function to send exercises and duet parts to my students, and the sound quality is better than the sound recorder that came with my phone.
I have been using this app for years. By far my favorite tuner/music utility app. Worth every penny. For starters the tuner actually WORKS. I remember trying a bunch of tuner apps when I first found this one and so many of them just flat out didn't function. Today I just realized that you can play chords (I'm dense I guess, it just had never occurred to me).
Edit: the new features are really good! The tuning history scrolling is such a perfect way to visualize pitch! Definitely Tunable has the best implementation of the idea. I still would love to have the option to have the metronome instead of the tone generator in the main screen. And an option for a logarithmic scale for the pitch, instead of linear (logarithmic seems to be the standard in every other tuner)
This has been my go to tuning app for tuning my flute but as of the recent half year I have experienced lag in the tuner. For example when I play an A and then moved to a G, it will indicate that my A is flat. This will not fix itself and I would have to play again for it to readjust. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the microphone or the app itself but it's very disappointing as I have loved using the app.
Good app, good functionality. Unfortunately it seems the tuner breaks after having the app for a while. My teacher had the issue when he first showed me this app. Worked fine for about 3 months and now I have the same behaviour. Tuner simply frozen up, maybe once every 30 seconds it will detect audio and give feedback but this only lasts a second or 2 before freezing again. Android both. Known fix: new phone
I love this tuner. The wide variety of drones, use of chords, and different subdivisions are great. The only thing I wish it had (and the only reason I have a 2nd metronome app installed) is a tempo trainer. Basically you give a starting tempo, ending tempo, time signature, and a time. Then over that interval of time it'll slowly increase the tempo from 1 tempo to the goal tempo. It's really great for practicing.
Read about this app on Harp Column while trying to get the old ChromAharP I found at an antique store years ago (and was lost in storage for almost as many!) tuned up! Tunable has continued to be consistent in function for checking the tuning on both my old ChromAharP and my new d'Aigle Tahoma autoharp which was pretty much pitch perfect upon delivery! Thank you to all who put together this easy to use tuning app - Go Tunable!
Great tuner and metronome app. Contains all of the functions that I need for practice. The tuner is easy to set down and use for tuning a violin and I like that the metronome includes the standard speeds in the bar at the bottom so I don't have to press + and - as many times.
I like this app and use it on a daily basis for myself and my cello students. I'm especially happy with the recent update with nice alternative sounds for the metronome! (couldn't stand it with the previous default beep). The developer has been very helpful in resolving some specific tuning issues I had aswell. Only small complaint I have at the moment is that the tuner has trouble "hearing" my tone in a loud environment (i.e. orchestra warming up).
So I just want to say that your app is now being used to tune a pipe band in canada... and sounds good at 480 to 486... Except for when the app freezes on us. And then comes back in... then freezes again. It's only some days. we're checking out possibilities as to why if its mics... rebound from sound or phones but 3 different phones and well see it freezing on us more... either way still love the app. Cheers
I really wish this app were updated. The iOS version had a few really nice tweaks that were supposed to come to Android... But the last update was over 4 years ago... I love this app, but it seriously needs to update. I'm very close to using a different app entirely for my metronome and tuning needs. I wrote to the devs about 2 years ago to request custom metronome markings, and it seemed at the time like they just didn't care. Unfortunate.
The tuning and tone generator functionality is fantastic and works very well, but the metronome visual flash is perceptibly off beat with the audio! I understand that this is probably latency in the Android audio subsystem. This review would be five stars if a compensation setting existed.
Love the app and the many functions. Use it as my main tuner and metronome. My only complaint is that the flash seems to not be perfectly synch'd up with the sound of the metronome, so I typically only use it for the sound. Otherwise, amazing app.
I wanted early music temperaments and a wide range of A frequencies. I found them here with a nice screen showing my actual pitches in reference to the 12 chromatic tones. Actually that gets to the one inadequacy of this (and every other) tuning app. The idea of 12 chromatic steps is an equal temperament outcome that should not be imposed on other temperaments. A whole step really being 9 commas, such that a minor half-step is 4 and a major is 5. Thus a G# is a comma lower than an Aflat.
Tunable really helped me improve my intonation and internal rhythm. The interface is highly appealing, so I was more inclined to use it than a traditional metronome. I would recommend it to anyone it was probably the best four dollars I ever spent.
After the last update, this app has been stuttering and does not have a smooth display anymore. This makes it very difficult to tune as it slowly tries to figure out what you are playing. I have tried force stopping the app and reinstalling it but that does not seem to work. I am on a Google Pixel 4 XL. As I wrote this message I saw a update available and has fixed this problem. Thank you!
