Tune N' View

Watch live television streamed directly to the television screens in your home. Tune N’ View provides the first-of-its-kind, set-top box solution for Android by bringing together the Silicondust HDHomeRun and Google TV. Finally, you can drop the set-top box from your content provider but still watch your favorite shows [1,2,3] without having to pay monthly equipment rental fees.
Tune N’ View was designed from the outset to offer a seamless, television-watching experience and is optimized for Google TV. You control it with your Google TV remote just like any other set top box or television. All of the channel navigation features that you are accustomed to such as channel up/down and previous channel are available.

Want to know what is on? Tune N' View features both mini and full programing guides that are powered by Gracenote [4]. Use the mini guide to review the programs currently airing on each station but without leaving the television viewing screen. To view a complete listing of current and future programs, launch the full guide. Both guides are fully interactive allowing you to change the channel directly from within them.

Tune N’ View supports home networks having multiple HDHomeRun devices. The devices may be different models or use different digital input sources (Antenna, Clear-QAM, M-Card). Devices are organized automatically into groups with easy-to-read names, so no longer are there device ids to remember. Better yet, you can switch between device groups all without leaving your viewing screen.

RequirementsGoogle TVTune N' View is available exclusively for Google TV. OS versions 3.1-3.2 are currently supported. Devices must meet additional hardware requirements as outlined below.

CodecsTune N’ View is compatible with Google TV devices that include the standard, television codecs (video: MPEG-2 or MPEG-4, audio: AC-3). If your Google TV meets the codec requirements but is not yet supported, let us know. The following devices are supported:•Sony Internet TV: NSX-24GT1, 32GT1, 40GT1, 46GT1•Sony Internet Player: NSZ-GT1, GS7, GS8•Vizio: Co-Star (VAP430) •Netgear: NeoTV Prime (GTV100)•Hisense: Pulse•Asus: Cube

Note: Vizio Co-Star users will need a television or A/V receiver that supports the receipt and decoding of AC-3 audio passed through over HDMI (i.e. AC-3 passthrough). Not all televisions are compatible.

HDHomeRunTune N’ View requires the Silicondust HDHomerun. Most models are supported. The HDHR-US (firmware=20120405) and HDHR3-CC (firmware=20120405) have been fully tested and verified. If your model is not listed or if you are experiencing problems, you can contact us using our developer email address.•HDHR: US, EU•HDHR3: US, CA, CC, DT, EU, 4DC•HDHR4: 2US•TECH: US, EU•TECH3: US, EU•HDTC: 2USNetworkingA high-speed, local area network is required. Both wired and wireless networks are supported. For high definition content, a wired connection is strongly recommended and probably required. For standard definition, a wired connection provides the best performance, but a wireless connection should work as well.

This app works well most of the time on my Vizio Co-Star and Asus Cube. However, sometimes I observe a warning pop-up indicating "Application Tune N' view (in process net.madasonsoft.tnv) is not responding". Note that the TV streaming is still working appropriately when this BLOCKING warning pops up. I can use my remote to choose WAIT (the other option is Force close) to remove this pop-up and continue on the TV viewing. But this is very bothersome for the non-techy family members. Anyone knows the remedy?

I've been trying to find a good solution for my home theater for a long time. I had been using a dedicated HTPC and WMC with a "dumb" TV. But when I got a new Sony Bravia "Smart TV", things just haven't been as convenient as they should be. I got a Harmony 650 (over $50) and set it up to handle everything (HTPC, receiver, TV) but my wife was constantly having trouble getting all the units turned on/off together. Plus, the harmony remote itself just isn't as slick as the Sony remotes (dedicated Netflix button, etc...). Now, the Sony TV has a built-in DLNA app, but using that with the HDHomerun didn't work well either (no guide, navigation is cumbersome, plus the audio would frequently stutter!). Then I discovered this app! Unfortunately, it doesn't work on a regular Android platform, but $55 later I got a Sony NSZ-GS8 off ebay to try it. WOW!! Not only did this developer get the basic functionality working, he added a very nice Guide (and mini-guide), *plus* the two Sony devices integrate with each other. So, the Sony TV remote can control the GS8! The only thing missing now is Subtitle/CC support - please? :)

This was the best app for HDHomerun Prime. I was getting a better video quality from this app than the official HDHomerun apps, or any other app I tried. I'm in the TnV Beta now using the beta, but waiting for the official update of this app. Thanks for reading

I installed this last night, allowed it scan for channels and BOOM! It was ready to go. Runs great on my ASUS cube as an extender for an upstairs TV. Thanks!!

Why can't I select a program/channel from the guide, then hit OK to tune that program/channel? Seems a bit useless to have a guide that isn't truely functional.

I have it working on 3 devices; a Sony GS7, and two NetGear Neo Primes (BTW purchased @ Target closeout <50 bucks). Two are wireless and the other needs a powerline adapter (Belkin A/v500) since it is too far from router.... all work great, a little slow changing channels but if you are not a channel surfer its fine.

this app work really well but wish there was setting so when app starts it goes right to tv instead of having to pick watch tv. if it had that the it would 5 star app.

Wow. This is the best app ever. Access to my HDHomerun Prime, and a full program guide. If I could give 10 stars I would.

I could not believe this existed. I use a HDHomerun Prime with cable card, and when used with Tune N' View I can rent a single cable card from Verizon, yet still be able to watch cable on any TV in the house (that has Google TV). The quality of the picture and sound is excellent, and the built-in guide really makes this application a complete replacement for a cable box. My only request would be to have the application launch directly into TV mode instead of launching to the main menu (and then requiring to launch TV). Maybe this could be a setting?

Thanks for the awesome APP!

This works great on my Sony NSZ-GT1! I'm glad that you guys released the app for this box. Great signal with my HDHomeRun Dual. The only thing I can hope for at some point is a guide of some sort, but this still deserves a 5 stars for sure.

i pressed watch tv, seems to not like my hdhomerun dual (updated to latest firmware when i ran the mac driver setup), other apps and vlc work so maybe dev just needs more info about device and/or firmware

Finally, an app that works with the HD homerun Prime and doesn't require transcoding. All it is lacking is a channel guide.

Bra. W. Jan 5, 2014

Well done interface and setup worked well, but the app complains that all my channels are protected and will not play. The channels are copy-freely and all work on other devices like mythtv. Sony NSZ-GT1.

Great picture and tunes the HDHomerun Prime's channels fairly quickly. No EPG, but that is overcome with "TV SideView" app on my iPad/iPhone. Hopefully development will continue and an EPG will be integrated. This app and TV SideView for iOS allowed me to retire my HTPC.

all this is lacking is a channel guide and support for more google tv devices and it will be perfect!!!!

Can't wait for version 1.2 of tune and view so I can try it out. Looks promising. Current (1.1) looks like it won't see the newer hdhomeruns yet.

Works great with my Vizio Co-Star and HDHomeRun Prime.

please release app for smart tv and devices.

Sue. P. Aug 9, 2013

This app shows alot of potential. With a Guide, and playback of protected content, it would be near perfect. Then with some sort of an integration with either MythTV or XBMC backend, would be absolutely awesome, perfect, and glorious. I'm supprised to see no github link or svn, let the community help you.

After trying a few OSX apps (EyeTV), I installed this on my GoogleTV device, and it came through. The only down side is no guide view, nor TV show info. Though a good start, now I'm able to return both settop boxes I have for FIOS, save my $20/month, and now only pay $4/month, and have my MacMini, and my two large screen TVs display HD quaility programming. Out of the 300+ channels, I narrowed it down to the 97 channels I really care about. Can't wait for new updates, with new features! I hope!
