Ever sat in a trad session and wondered what was the name of that great tune someone just played? Well now you can search a database of over 23,000 tunes from your device BY PLAYING!
Just hold your device up to a melody instrument such as the tin-whistle, flute, concertina, uilleann pipes, accordion or banjo, hit record and the melody will be extracted and submitted to the tunepal.org search engine for matching.
Matching tunes are downloaded to your device, where you can view and edit the notation or the stave, email the tune, post it to facebook or play it back using the high quality playback engine based.

I only remembered part of an irish tune O learned years ago. I bought Tunepal and with only some of the A part of the tune, this app identifies it correctly as the Swallowtail Jig. Awesome! And it shows full staff notation and plays the tune along with chords, and change tempo, etc etc! Well worth the price. Installed on 4/19/2020 to a Samsung Galaxy S9 and it works great
Cannot identify slow airs, selecting both reels and waltzes as potential matches. Provided interesting new tune suggestions, but none close to a match. I really liked the fact that standard notation was provided for attempted matches, but the match engine doesn't work for the slow airs I presented for identification, despite uncomplicated violin melody over acoustic guitar. Tunepal appears to hear fingerpicking of the guitar harmony, and ignores the much louder melody line in the violin.
Tunepal is a truly excellent resource for session musicians. It has become my tune store since it accesses so many online tune collections and keeps all tunes in one place on the phone. It also does a decent job of recognizing tunes if you play them cleanly - it has helped me identify loads of tunes that I didn't know the names of or that I only knew a snippet of. Great tool.
Sadly, it's no longer being developed and crashes on startup in contemporary versions of Android. A shame, because the functionality I saw on a friend's iPhone made me buy this app without hesitation...should have looked closer at the last update timestamp.
Fantastic app for learning, revising or identifying tunes, now updated for Android 11, thank you :) I have to disable "dark mode" for the app for the score to display correctly, but that's not a problem.
Mine never worked to pick up a tune by audio nor has the search engine ever worked properly, constantly deleting the app and re-downloading with hope of it being rectified to no avail.
Lately I can't open tune sheets anymore. It says web page not available. Worked fine before. Removed last update, problem solved.
Re-downloaded the app to my new phone. A lot of tunes missing. Any tune that i had saved and put a star beside has disappeared . Would love to know how to fix this?!
This app has always been awesome, whether I want to quickly note down a new tune in a session to remember later or to remind myself the name of a tune I'm playing.
No longer opening for me. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no luck. Android 9. Was 5* when it was working.
A fantastic app that I have happily used for years but suddenly it won't update or reinstall. Really disappointed
I think this app is so good especially if you play music and you have tunes going through the head constantly
5 star app until the update this morning, which will not allow me to install or update the app on either my Android phone or my Android app enabled Chromebook.

no tunes for chestnuts often and no sound for tune playbacks, what gives?
Was great when it worked. Won't run on my Pixel 3L since early in 2020.
Doesn't recognise any traditional tunes from the radio, comes back with names that are not associated with Ireland, more like Hungarian style tunes, not remotely like the tune I was expecting. Not even the tempo is right, for example gives slow airs instead of reels and jigs. I've tried it a few times during the past few years but it never worked. Update, it gave Guzzle Together for the Carraroe Jig.
