Tuner - DaTuner Pro (Strobe!)

DaTuner PRO is an, all-purpose, precise and responsive chromatic tuner app for android with a simple interface.
**If you've never tried DaTuner and like leaving less than 4 stars without a comment, please save your money; this app is terrible! :)**

For the rest of you, DaTuner is one of the smallest tuners on the market clocking in at ~ 800kB!

Super precise from A0 all the way up to > C8! The multi-harmonic strobe functionality in Pro gives almost immeasurable precision all the way down to the lowest notes, and is intuitive and readable.

Extremely fast, with latencies and averaging all adjustable via the settings menu. If it's fast on 5 year old Android devices running Android 2.1 without fixed-point support, then it will be fast on your device! :)

The PRO version also features an accurate pitch pipe and and was reviewed by Android Central:

"For the Android-loving musician, I think DaTuner Pro is easily the best tuner you can have on your device. I used to give that title to *see review!*, but DaTuner has proven to be so powerful, easy to use, and accurate, it'd be foolish to not use it."

DaTuner converts the fundamental frequency to the nearest note and error in cents for quick and easy tuning of your guitar, ukelele, violin, bass, cello, mandolin, piano, harp, saxophone, Ducati timing belt, harmonica, kazoo, you name it.

DaTuner's display is easy to read; nearest note and octave is displayed in a giant, easy to read font in the center of the screen, and frequency in hertz plus error in cents is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Sensitivity is auto-adjusted, but can also be adjusted by touch via a bar on the left-hand side of the screen, and the speed/accuracy of the algorithm and the relative frequency (if other than 440Hz) can be adjusted via the configuration menu.

There is no "dead zone" with this tuner app as is the case with many other apps. Instead, the whole display turns green when the incoming frequency is within a configurable range of the target frequency and you can still see small changes in pitch even within the "in-range" area. Both the "in-tune" range and the colours shown for sharp and flat can be configured in this version.

Screen and filter lock allow you to select the note that you would like to tune to, with filter lock ignoring anything outside of the range of the note you wish to tune, which is useful for tuning in noisy environs.

Features:1.) No dead zone
- screen changes to green when tuning is good.2.) Auto-Sensitivity
- no configuration required.3.) Bright, easy-to-read display.4.) Quick, accurate and precise.5.) Screen lock: Lock to the note you want to tune, even if extremely out of tune and make your way up/down to it.6.) Filter lock: Lock and filter to a specific note and filter out everything outside that note's range.7.) Ad-free!8.) Reference frequency adjustment for orchestra tuning, adjustable manually or by letting the app listen to another reference.9.) Some instruments can be selected
- more to come!10.) Choice of colors for sharp/flat/in-tune11.) Sample rate range 8kHz
- 48kHz.12.) Transposition.13.) Temperaments. You can modify the ones that exist or add your own using a text editor. The temperaments are saved on your external memory under the /DaTuner directory.14.) Notation (ie Solfége, English, English sharp, English flat, Northern European.)15.) REAL strobe tuner display, with up to 4 overtones!16.) Pitch pipe with multiple overtones, so it is audible even when playing low tones.17.) Custom instruments/temperaments/tunings via a .xml file.

This strobe tuner is not like some others around that "emulate" "virtual wheels and flash lamps." Why use 100 year old technology
- the Strobe in DaTuner is based on a modern DSP algorithm and is just as accurate as an old strobe tuner but is easier to read.

Not worth five stars? Please email me/leave a comment with your rating! Thanks!

4 years without an update. The app is good but maintenance is always required to adapt to new OS versions. Most other products from this software maker have received updates in the last 6 months. Why has this one been abandoned?

As a professional violist and violinist, this is the best tuner I've found. Works well in challenging acoustic environments. Have been using it for several years.

Great tuner app. I have the pro just because of ads, the strobes are annoying. Any chance we could get an adaptive icon?

Badly needs a chromatic mode. Totally unusable for D standard, C standard drop tuning.

This works well for guitar but with harmonica registers overtones not the actual note.

Best app around. One suggestion - when pitch pipe and lock are displayed along with notes of tuning, display the notes or strings in the order entered. Example, ukulele GCEA, because the g is higher in pitch, the display shows CEGA. Most instruments have strings pitched low to high, but some, like ukulele, 12 string guitar, 5 string banjo, aren't that way. Sorting display by how the notes are listed in the XML file rather than by pitch would not change the display for most instruments, from guitar to piano, but it sure would simplify things greatly for like, banjo, 12 string guitar, and many other instruments.

Top marks from this aural piano tuner. While I normally use it just to set A440 (or A442) I've quickly found many other uses. It makes chipping up a new set of strings a breeze. I test it every few months with a brand new tuning fork and it's always spot on.

My favorite chromatic tuner. The free version is very useful. I used it for a long time (and still use it on my phone which is too old to load the pay for version) and then finally decided to up to the pro version for my tablet, where it's even better.

As an almost once-piano tuner, I am floored. It's well worth the $2 for the strobe feature alone, IMO. It's everything I need for the occasional neighborly discounted piano tuning, and I have no doubt it will handle other instruments even better. Even Ducati timing belts. ;-)

I use this app in so many professional and personal contexts, it's mind-boggling. Extremely powerful and equally at home tuning a ukele and a double bass, this app is WELL worth the investment. I encourage the use of this app by my fellow musicians. There's never an excuse to be out of tune again!

**If you've never tried DaTuner and like leaving less than 4 stars without a comment, please save your money; this app is terrible! :)** - OK. I tried the app. Purchased the app. It would only download to one device. As requested by the author, saved my negative review and wrote, asking for help. No reply, first or second attempt to contact. As far as the app goes, the free BOSS or any of a few dozen other free versions appear to do exactly the same thing. The BOSS version seems a little more intuitive to use.

Outstanding. Best tuner I owned. I manufacture wooden flutes and I need to adjust the A4 reference for atomospheric conditions; this app does it in 0.1Hz steps which means I can be really accurate! Thank you.

Use as main tuner for my fiddle and mandolin. Do not need anything else. Cannot fault. Go Pro to reward developer for great work.

I tune church pipe organs for a living. This app is brilliantly designed. Love being able to customize so many parameters to suit my needs. Thanks to the app builders!

Ensuring intonation is correct is crucial to playing the violin well. This is exactly what I was looking for, a responsive tool that provides visual confirmation to what my ear is telling me.

I've been using this application for about 6 years now. I used use it when I taught lessons for my students. And reccomended it for students that didnt want to spend 20$ on a crapy EADGBE tuner.. I've noticed that it Tunes my guitar and any other instrument better than a clamp-on tuner like a snark. I went ahead and purchased the app because it works so flawlessly for me over the last several years

Bogus note value in OnePlus 5. It used to work on V20 but it shows completely wrong octave. Other tuning apps are working fine though.

Tom. B. Sep 7, 2017

I've been using the free version tuner for years and found it to be very fast and highly accurate. The developer needs to be rewarded for his efforts and constant updates, so I upgraded to his Pro version because he deserves it! Great job developer and continued success!!

I am a piano tuner who used this app a few years ago to pitch my first note! Three to four years on I feel I need to congratulate the developers for what has proved to be a fantastic 2nd pair of ears!

Prefer it over my Boss pedal tuner that cost me a hundred bucks.
