TV Antenna Helper FREE

This app is the free version of TV Antenna Helper. If you use this app, please rate it. If you feel that you can not rate this app 4 or 5 stars, please send me an email ([email protected]) and let me know why.
Please consider buying the ad-free version at: https://market.android.com/details?id=potkay.tvantennahelper.paid

Please note: This app does not allow you to watch TV on your phone. Instead, it uses your location to find nearby over-the-air Digitial TV (DTV) and HDTV signals in the *United States
* and assists you choosing an antenna and pointing it in the correct direction. Information provided by the app includes: TV channel signal strengths, compass bearings to signals (direction), distance to signal towers, TV channel numbers, RF channel numbers, elevation, and frequency bands (UHV, Hi-V, Lo-V).

User location is determined automatically via GPS or the network. Alternatively, a location can be manually entered. DTV/HDTV station data is downloaded from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The app displays nearby TV signal information in three ways:1) A scrollable list displaying all nearby TV signals ordered from strongest to weakest. 2) A compass that displays the stations at their correct heading from the current location.3) A map displaying the current location and the location of all nearby TV signal towers. The app can also be used to recommend antennas for your location.

This app hasn't been updated in awhile,in the Memphis market WPTY changed to WATN also WTWV moved to Real channel 23 not 14,please update your data base, and the compass is a little jumpy I have to use another compass app to point my antenna, other than that this app really helps you out!

This app made it easy for me to see that the only station I had even a hope of getting was the Boston WMUR ... and that only very weakly. In fact this simply confirmed what I'd been learning from other sources; but it was one more good piece of information. Thank you to the creator.

You I'm experienced with anything electronic. This app is very inaccurate. It found 24 channels when I have 57. I have one amplified and one non-amplified DTV antennas in my home. No matter what I did nor where I went TV Antenna Helper always read 24 channels. This in itself is wrong: the deeper you get into an apartment the more the signal attenuates (drops). I pressed the rescan button to no avail. I suggest you avoid this app. Jeff

We travel a lot with our RV, and get frustrated with finding the local over the air channel numbers and names (like CBS is found on channel 8) and antenna directions. When you have to search every day or two, it gets tedious. You have solved this. THANK YOU!

This app has been very helpful in helping me decide what kind of antenna to get, which way to point it, and many other tips. And after banging my head against the wall, concrete, and what ever else that's been in the way these past few weeks trying to get get this OTA thing to work from as we ditch Time Warner, I wish I would have found this app sooner as would saved me some money and crap product returns. Thanks again.

I'm not a Techie ( however, compared to all my other 58+ year old women friends, I guess I am!) I recently decided to ditch my costly cable bill and get an antenna. I live on mountain in WV, Eastern Panhandle and bought a strong antenna just to be able to receive PBS at the very least. To my surprise I get PBS in Digital clear as a bell and a local NBC affiliate station as well. I will mount this antenna with perfect directionality thanks to this free tool. Easy and so handily done. Thank you Mr. Potkay. You've helped me save some serious cash and delight in my Sunday Night Masterpiece viewing. Major Kudos!!

WELL worth the price for the full version even if you only use it once. I cut the cord (and $80 monthly bill) from Dish Network and installed my first antenna today. I couldn't get an accurate read with my mechanical compass due to power lines in the area and I spent more than 2 hours climbing up and down the ladder moving the antenna a little at a time and finally quit when it got dark. JUST found this app and by using the compass mode, I'll climb on the roof tomorrow and have the antenna set in about 30 seconds. Developer: How about a Windows Phone version? I moved away from Android months ago but dug the phone out of the drawer just for this app.

wasn't performing as I had hoped. This app showed me that I was picking up the weakest channels. The strongest channels were the other direction, behind a chimney and trees. Relocated the antenna and all is well. Only thing I don't like is the red channels are hard to read on the compass view, and only show network, not channel number

This app found all my local broadcast towers and helped me orient my antenna. My only gripe is that the font used to label the towers in the map overlay mode is super tiny. Still a 5 star app but an option to change the font in map mode would be greatly appreciated.

Word of advice: when you calibrate your compass use a *large* figure 8, preferably outdoors. Tried to do this in house and didn't work. Went outside & did a 10' x 10' figure 8 on patio. Compass now works great. Holding 5* off to test other venues but so far solid 4*.

App works well however some adds would really improve the usability of the app. 1) Radar screen text is small on an 8" tablet, not usable on phone (S4). 2) As someone living on the border with Canada, I'd like the option to include Canadian stations. I get just as many from Canada as from the US! 3) In map mode, it says to zoom in for details but call sign and channel is all you get. Would also be helpful to tap on the call sign to get details on the station or jump to their Website.

HTC Sense 6 and Android 4.4.2 looks helpful but gave incorrect information "the fcc website shows there are no broadcast channels" I have 58. The map wouldn't load and either would the direction pointer.

I couldn't quite get one channel and after using the compass feature in the application, to identify the small adjustment of my antenna, I get that one channel as well as the others. Cable box is going back to cable co.

The Application Reccommends Antennas That Are Either Not Available Anymore And Are Expensive!! The Application Uses The Amazon Website And So Do I!! I Bought An Antenna From Amazon And Was Apparently Made By Them Too!! The Antenna I Bought Looks Like It Couldn't Swat A Fly As Appears To Nothing More Than A Thin Piece of Paper!! But it actually Has A 50 Mile Range!! And it will Run Circles Round Those Recommended!!

Antenna and internet are the way to go and this app provides distant and direction for your antenna. Haven't tried the recommended antenna feature but the information is spot on.

I was using this on an LG Revolution and it was a great help in finding local signals (I live in an RV and travel around the country). Upgraded to a Galaxy S4 and now the compass does not rotate to show signal direction. If I rotate the phone, the signal stays in the same position in relation to the phone, not to the compass direction.

This app gives you exactly what you need to see which way to point the antenna that you are going to use for your TV. (Air antenna) ...and out even gives you an idea of what type of antenna to use. I like it alot. It also gives you not 1 but 4 different ways to look at how the signal is coming to you. And where it is coming from.

I was looking for channel strength, when I came across this app. Downloaded quick, worked quickly, and was free! Great job. Signal Compass was easy to use and very accurate.
