UCLA Mindful

With this easy-to-use app, you can practice mindfulness meditation anywhere, anytime with the guidance of the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center. Scientific research shows mindfulness can help manage stress-related physical conditions, reduce anxiety and depression, cultivate positive emotions, and help improve overall physical health and well-being.

Mindfulness is the practice of training the mind to be present through moment-to-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, body sensations and environment. Mindfulness promotes an attitude of openness, curiosity, and a willingness to be with our experience. Through regular practice, taught through this app, you can develop a meditation practice and learn to bring more mindfulness into your daily life.

This app offers:

- Basic Meditations for getting started, in both English and Spanish
- Wellness Meditations for people suffering from challenging health conditions
- Informative videos exploring how to get started, supportive meditation postures, and the science of mindfulness
- Weekly podcasts from UCLA's Hammer Museum-- a 30 minute meditation on different themes you can search for and bookmark
- A timer to meditate on your own

The Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC), is an educational and research center dedicated to fostering mindful awareness practices to promote health, well-being, and a compassionate society. It is located at the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Due to MARC's mission of radical accessibility of mindfulness practices, this app is entirely free to the user.

I like the simplicity and non-commercialisation of this app. It has what I was looking for - some good guided meditations and it's not bloated with stuff and popping up "upgrade to premium to unlock this and that" like most commercial mindfulness apps. The UI might look boring and a bit dated, but that's actually a good thing as it focuses on the core functionality instead of whistles and bells. The only thing I could wish for is more meditations, but for a beginner this is perfect.

I'll try to reinstall, but at the moment, either the meditation downloads are unsuccessful or they skip and repeat like a broken record. UPDATE: I've downloaded the latest version which was supposed to have fixed this bug, but no luck! It's like listening to Max Headroom ( showing my age). UPDATE: 11/9/2019 version; Most of the skipping audio is gone, but not entirely. Podcasts still skipped several times in the first minute or so, maybe a buffering problem?

Works great for me. Fantastic & free meditation app for new users. They need to update the UI to make it look prettier. It seems to stream some of its data when I start a mediation. Wish there was a way to download all of that data instead of using my data every time I do a meditation. I am considering donating that hopefully they can update this app.

To be honest, the app itself is a bit clunky, but the content is so rich, and to have easy access to it in an app, has already been extremely helpful in my life in just the few days I've been using it. The podcasts are especially wonderful and an amazing tool I am so grateful to have. And for free!! I came to download UCLA Mindful after listening to Diana's conversation on the Waking Up app. It's now also become a part of my daily routine for mental self care.

I like the app, especially the longer podcast meditations. However, the end chime on the timer function never rings to notify me of when the session is over. My phone locks during the meditation which causes the timer to stop. The app is set to allow notifications, but the glitch remains.

Content is very rich but it playback is not good. I am struggling for last 10 minutes to figure what is triggering the loopback while trying meditation. Had to stop and check the reviews here. It happens with me only with screen off. If I am staring at it with screen on, it keeps working fine. Sad.

This is very nice for free, relaxing podcasts. it is easy to use. My only problem is the podcasts screen is slow to browse through on my phone. Also, a meditation tracker would be neat to motivate us to do more meditation.

I've used these guided meditation clips whenever I've been off the course in life and they have helped immensely. Now thay the app makes it more convenient to tune in to, I'll make it a habit. Also, these guided meditation sessions could the best gift for anyone you care for.

This has been a great app. Of course, it was a bit frustrating when the app seemed to be skipping or bits of the audio were looping. It would be nice if the variety of meditations would rotate or change once in a while

Looks like this app works a dream on ios having looked at their reviews, however on android for me, it keeps stopping multiple times throughout listening, sometimes for long periods that I give up. I love the content but will have to download one at a time from the interney to enjoy, hence app is mostly useless to me.

Current version of the app seems very buggy. E.g. skips during meditations, repeats the same audio until you unlock your phone and have the app active on your screen. Very offputting when you're trying to meditate.

Really 2.5 Stars. UPDATE 18 JUNE 2021: What happened? "Body Scan for Sleep" seems to have been re-recorded: new script, faster pace and new music have rudely shaken what was once a perfect prelude to a wonderful night's slumber. UPDATE 23, JAN 2020 Although I don't use all of the meditations, the few I use work wonderdully. I rely on it almost daily & only wish more meditations were available. Thanks for addressing the issues, the moments of clarity & relaxation, & access for everyone.

The content is very good and all the bugs I noticed (pixel 2) are totally gone. Kudos on a very effective update and solid meditation app. Also a plus that there are no adds. Thank you.

The videos in the 'Getting started' section won't play because of their 'privacy settings '. Also, about half of the podcasts fail to load.

I was loving this app, but have been unable to download anything for the past few days. I just keep getting the message "download failed". I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Same story.

I would give it a 5 stars if the app allows the user to change the storage from internal storage usage to external storage usage (App Info -> Storage -> External storage used). Note: the developers are responsive to feedback, which is much appreciative. Thank you for their diligence and efforts in making the app excellent!

The meditations are very helpful, however since the last Android update the app pauses intermittently while playing. Could use advice on how to fix.

I love UCLA's meditations and was very happy when this app came out. However, there is no dark mode to this app, hence the 4 stars. I use meditation to fall asleep and even when my phone is dimmed, the app is too harsh for me. Add a dark mode without taking away anything and I'll be a 5 star reviewer!

I was disappointed when the SATIfy app shut down. I had come to rely on the shorter meditations to handle difficult moments/days. Thank you for releasing the same mindfulness meditations on a better, less cluttered app.

My favorite meditation app. There is a nice variety of meditations. I absolutely love it!

Ive never in my life given a review before but this app is a blessing. Its helped me so much to calm down and relax when i start ruminating too much on what could have been and what could become. Especially when i have trouble sleeping and sometimes asmr doesnt cut it.

Great App. The guided meditations are amazing pointers to our hatural state. Includes a great spectrum of topics and ways to meditate.

I installed this program on my tablet and it works very well. I use it regularly. My wife asked me to install it on her Chromebook and it locks up whenever you try to run a meditation or video. Is there something that can be done to fix this? thanks

The meditations are great, but the app is not. It's super buggy and the meditations have trouble loading at all.

Rog. D. Jan 27, 2020

It seems like a really good App but for one thing. For a non American the voice-over is a bit grating. No, not grating, obnoxious. If you can get Catherine Zeta-Jones to do the voice - over you are on a winner internationally.

I love the app on my phone and would rate it 5 stars except for one issue. I am unable to download it to my computer or any other device since I added it to my phone. my intention was to be able to access it from phone, computer, iPad. Are we limited to one device?
