Ultimate Game Guide for NES

When it works, this app is perfect. It catalogues every game, physical console, controller, and keeps track of the value of your collection, as well as a wanted list and many other things. However, I have not gotten the app to open so I could actually use it more than once in the last month or so. I'll download it, add a game or two, and then it will crash while loading every time after that. UPDATE: As of 7/6/2020 the app works again, and better than ever.

At first it worked great. It was a very useful app for an NES collector. There were times it would stop working and the app would restart. Ultimate Game Guide for the NES was not perfect to begin with. If you recently updated your phone, the app is now useless. It crashes constantly. In fact you can't even open it. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. I haven't be able to use it for almost a month. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not fix the problem either. Buyer beware.

So I opened my app today and much to my horror all 500+ entries were deleted. My phone had forced updated to v2.0 and I had no idea. I recently spent 12+ hours adding notes and double checking the accuracy of my app to my collection. All my work is gone. On top of that the new version is broken. The search function is unreadable with text appearing on top of cartridge images. The additional info like publisher, developer, rarity are now blank. A beautiful and useful app now gone. Disappointing.

-sigh- my review disappeared in the middle of writing it so here I go: Pat and his team have done an excellent job putting together an app that truly lives up to its name, as this is THE ultimate guide to the NES library. It is especially helpful for cataloguing your library, quickly checking prices and citing reviews of games you are interested in, and while it is a near perfect tool for any NES collector, there are a couple features I would like to see improved. One feature I would like to see added is a search bar always available at the top of the screen, even on game pages, that doesn't save your previous save so after cataloguing one game you can quickly move on to the next. This would be especially helpful when cataloguing a large library for the first time, as I had to back out to the search result screen and delete my previous search every time I wanted to find another game. Also, it wasn't until I began writing this review that I figured out how to add games to the "wanted list". Granted, there is text that explains that you should change the value owned to a number less than 0 to add to the wanted list and I see why it is the way it is, but I would've rather seen an option on the main game page. Finally, I would like to see label variants separated the same way test cartridges are, if it weren't for swiping at the game page I wouldn't have known how to select the newer yellow label Metroid cartridge instead of the original black label variant. I am rating this app 5/5 stars because it does exactly what it says it does, and my only complaints are for ease of use and fluidity, just some quality of life improvements, but those features are in the game in some way as it is, they could just be more accessible in my opinion.

I'm mostly happy but two problems keep me from giving it five stars: online user ratings don't seem to be working and if I exit the program and launch it again the app will reset back at the start of the list which is really annoying when I'm reading and all of a sudden someone sends me a message, so I answer the message but when I come back to the program I realize it's been closed to free memory and now I'm back at the start. Could you please fix this?

It's a cool app, but buggy. After hitting close button to return to master game list the star ratings' column glitches out and scrolls/flickers for a considerable time. Also, the same back button doesn't work half the time. You just have to continue tapping it until it decides to work.Time will tell on the cloud memory feature, makes it seem like your signing into cloud service app within this app. It's a stand alone sign in not sure how it will work. 2nd time reentering all this stuff.

As of right now even with the huge update and overhaul of the app it is still very broken. The search function does not work, the collection function does not work, the app opens up now but that is it. I have given the app so many chances before I wrote this review but sadly it seems like they are not listening to all the issues and they are not willing to fix it. I truly hope they continue to reupdate and fix this app.

8/24/2020: I was having trouble with the app, but it appears to be fixed. Going to give it another chance. The app now has cloud saves that you can sign up for, but I haven't given that a try. I have used this app to keep track of my nes inventory and NES wishlist. It's nice that these old games are given a rating and a review, and you can add your own rating. For each game you can browse listings on Amazon and eBay. Easy to use and I recommend this app.

App unusable with current Android OS. keeps crashing as it opens. Before this issue, the app was top notch. Searching games and making lists was ver simple and it provided both cart art and box art. I really liked it but since the newest update to the OS it has been broken (for several months)

This is a great app for collecting NES hardware and games. I needed something like this, it was getting that I forgot if I had a game when I come across some in thrift stores and garage sales 100+ games is hard to remember what you have or not.

Paid for an app that constantly crashes and is 100% unusable. Its been months and this needs to be fixed. I realize Pat doesnt have the ability to develop the app himself, but find someone who can fix this sooner rather than later. Edit: Went from 1* to 5* Much better performance. While it is necessary to reset everything, the new app is much better than the original thanks to a new developer.

I loved this app. LOVED IT. I've spent so many hours using it for collecting and so forth. I even have purchased Pat's NES collecting guide book. However now the app does not work at all with the new update. I would give 1 star but out of respect for the previous version of the app I added a star. Would have rated previous version a 5 for sure. Please fix. After amassing such a huge collection (roughly 700 nes titles) this app is crucial for tracking the collection. Thanks for your time.

About this app 2 or 3 years ago. It worked fine there were no issues. I got a new phone so I re-downloaded this app and opened it to make sure it worked. it barely even scrolls through the game list. You cannot search, which is a huge problem for an app that is to be used as a database. If I can't search for games then this app is completely useless. It's also very telling that these issues have not been addressed in over a year and a half. This app should be removed from the Play store.

Very cool and useful. Maybe add an option to put the scroll bar on the left side of the screen or shrink the scroll bar slightly? [EDIT] This app was useful but now it crashes and is displayed incorrectly.

I was getting frustrated because the ap was glitchy and broken. I went to setting-aps-and cleared the data and cache and it works as it should now. Maybe this could be a cupodcast topic bc it was super frustrating until I figured it out.

This app has great detailed information to the classic NES games I grew up with and has screenshots as well as extra useful information. Also this app works great on my Note 9. This app has been updated and improved to function properly. For those who grew up with the NES, get this app! Thanks for reading =)

Longtime fan of Pat's YouTube channel! This app is way better than the other ones available on the Play Store! All the info on each game is a cool feature, and the game tracking system makes keeping track of my collection very simple. Would definitley recommend to any hardcore NES fan!

Ever since these latest updates, app is completely broken and unusable. Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling/clearing cache. App used to work great.... Update 8/19/20: Tried app again today and seems to be fully functional again. I had previously tried deleting the app, app data, and app cache several times. Tried again today and now everything is working great

Used to love this app. So handy to keep track my collection. But it keeps crashing on my S8 (works on xperia) won't even get past the loading screen. Please address, not working since November, should be an easy fix. Unacceptable.

**Do Not Purchase This APP** "We Have A ScumBag App Seller Of The Week." This app crashes everytime I attempt to open it. I worked for the first two days and then nothing. Restarting my phone and reinstalling doesn't work. It is a very cool app and I hope they fix it. I have a Google pixel 2 so be aware if you have the same. It isnt compatible with this phone as of now. I hate to leave a bad review but this app is legitimately unusable.

Unfortunately it constantly crashes. This has been happening for the last several months. Prior to the crashing issue, I used this app exclusively for my NES collection

The latest update erased my collection and broke the navigation. It seems to struggle to load the list of all games and scrolling through it doesn't work well. I liked it before!

The app is great when you are trying to look games up on the go. However, I have been unable to use it on my Android phone for 6 months because it crashes immediately.

When I first installed this app it was great. But after the last few months, it's been really terrible. Super buggy, can hardly search anything, and navigation is awful. Wish I never paid money for this app.

Totally unusable. I made the mistake and downloaded the recent update. I 100% regret doing that since the previous version worked for me. I'll update if it's ever fixed Running Android 9.0 on a GalaxyS8

The update has completey hosed this app. It is literally useless and does not display correctly on Note 10 Plus. Uninstalled and installed the old version from backup. You guys gotta fix this thing as it is useless now.

UPDATE: Got my original issue fixed. Now games like Ice Climber and Kid Icarus do not show up to add to my collection, like they do not exist. Also games I add to my collection DO NOT save when you exit the app. Get Gameye instead! ORIGINAL REVIEW -Loved this app before the update, now it DOES NOT WORK. This app is now a waste of money, DO NOT BUY IT.

Does not work, going on months now. Trash. Update allows app to open, but it barely works now. Won't display correctly at all.

What happened with this last update? It was definitely 5 stars before that. Now it is slower and clunkly-er, and takes about 25 seconds just to update from 0 to 1 in the game counter. All this just to save the collection data online?

The update made the app worse, now some of the games show up on the display when selecting all games like it is having a hard time loading everything. At this point the app is unusable.
