Unlock With WiFi

ANNOUNCEMENT: This app has a successor named SkipLock. It is similar to Unlock With WiFi, but with some major new features. If you bought Unlock With WiFi in the last two months, please contact me and I will either refund your purchase or give you a free copy of SkipLock. You don't *have
* to switch to SkipLock. If you are happy with Unlock With WiFi, stick with it. It will still be supported.
For a full explanation of why SkipLock was created, see this blog post: http://benhirashima.com/posts/the-rebirth-of-unlock-with-wifi/

This app is NOT the unlock key for SkipLock. Do not buy this app if you want to use SkipLock.

Tired of entering your password every time you turn on your phone? Unlock With WiFi™ unlocks your phone when you're connected to your home WiFi network. When you're at home, or work, you don't need to worry about losing your phone, so why should you have to enter your password?

Unlock With WiFi is the leading password convenience app on the market. It's focus is on reliability, quality, and a great user experience. The setup wizard makes it easy to setup, and helpful dialogs are displayed if something isn't quite right.

How it works:

When you get home and connect to your WiFi network, your device will unlock. Then when you leave, and the WiFi disconnects, the device will lock again. You have to enter your password the first time after you connect to your WiFi network. This is so that if someone steals or finds your phone, they can't just bring it to your house to unlock it. After you enter your password once while connected to your WiFi network, you won't have to enter it again until you leave/disconnect. This is great for SMS texting!

Additional Features:

You can also set a lock delay, for when you're not at home. The default delay is set to 5 seconds (you can adjust it), so when you turn the screen off, the device won't lock until 5 seconds have passed. That way, if you remember something you forgot to do, you can turn it back on without entering your password. This feature is considered experimental at this time. It works on most devices, but isn't guaranteed to work on all devices.

There are also battery saving options to:

Turn off WiFi when you leave home Turn on Bluetooth when you leave home Turn off Bluetooth when you get home Turn off Auto Sync when you leave home Turn on Auto Sync when you get home WidgetLocker integration

If you have trouble with this app, please email me. Send an email with Unlock With WiFi in the subject to [email protected]. If it doesn't have Unlock With WiFi in the subject, it will be filtered as spam.

IMPORTANT: To uninstall this app, you must select Uninstall from the menu inside the app. The normal way won't work if device admin mode is enabled.

WARNING: This app doesn't work on some phones. Please read this description carefully, and the FAQ. http://benhirashima.com/unlockwithwifi/faq

Known Limitations:

Does not work with Android Pay, according to user reports Does not work on Android 5+. However, Android 5.0 has much of SkipLock's functionality built in now. The app is not compatible with Motorola Skip or Dots. Do not install this app on the SD card. It will not be secure if you do. It won't work on phones that have full device encryption enabled. It won't work if your employer enforces a password policy on your phone. Only PINs and passwords can be used in Android 4.0 and above. Patterns and face unlock are not supported. Unlock With WiFi is incompatible with some antivirus and battery saver apps. See the FAQ for details. Make sure to exclude Unlock With WiFi from your task killer apps, or it won't work properly.

Not install this app

started to experiment with layouts, so it became more difficult to use, and then no more updates for later androids... great way to run off with the fees you received.

Since I upgraded to Android 5.0.1 this paid app no longer works. How can i get a refund?

Ric. C. Oct 16, 2014

My nexus 5 works poorly with this. After 3 of years of excellent use on other phones it now refuses to accept a time delay on the loss of signal. Even small losses of signal means I have to enter my password. Messages to Ben using the approved method seem to have no effect. It's disappointing as otherwise it's a great app.

One of my most used apps but the dev rewrote it and renamed it "SkipLock". When you do that you just update this to the new app for free for your loyal paying customers NO MATTER WHEN THEY BOUGHT IT. The "if you bought it in the last 2 months you get a free update" is stupid, your just making us madder. Your making people think your greedy and dishonest. I dont believe that. Your app is great. Do the right thing and UPDATE THIS FOR FREE TO SKIPLOCK. Then charge your new customers for it. It will sell.

Sad to see you kick loyal customers by offering no upgrade path. App now not working since upgrade. Poor show.

If you have an older phone this is still very worth it, but most likely you have a newer phone so go with Skiplock for a few more features also.

This should be standard on all android phones. Until this is baked into the OS spend the money and buy this app.

Not happy to pay again for similar functionality, but if you're not interested in Bluetooth then it's a great app that has served me well for a while

Will never pay for apps from this manufacturer. Rather than update they make new versions to double dip from customers.

Bra. M. Aug 19, 2014

Don't download it

Dev is replacing this app (fine-there are good reasons), BUT is charging double for it, even for all the customers who payed for this one (except recent pays). Will be finding a replacement and uninstalling. I recommend avoiding all apps from this developer due to this.

One of the few apps I install first on any Android platform. Purchased several years ago and does what it is described to do. Uses AP MAC not just the SSID.

Chr. D. Jan 5, 2014

Bad change!!! New app - should be an upgrade price 50% or so, do not see why I should pay the full price again in under 6 months

rom. 0. Jan 7, 2014

Im glad you are continuing to support this app.

Joh. A. W. B. Jan 6, 2014

Used to be flawless

Jas. H. Jan 4, 2014

I think this is a great app, and I understand the reason to rewrite the app. BUT, users who purchased the original app should not have to pay full price for the new app. There should be an upgrade price. I probably won't be buying the new app... Paying 4.99 again is a bit much. But I would most certainly support the creator if there was an upgrade price.

Ste. P. Jan 4, 2014

I purchased this in good faith. Now I have to buy it again, and it is not cheap! Not good This sort of bad behaviour gives devs a bad name.

Jua. P. A. S. Jan 5, 2014

You can't mess up with existent users like that! you want us to pay you again? I really liked this app but won't be buying the new version. You should at least offer a good discount for existent users of this application

Ric. S. Feb 18, 2014

This app was a great idea and worked well, however I've been prompted to write a review due to the developer deciding to snub his existing customers. Why you would choose to penalise earlier adopters escapes me. I wouldn't have minded but the developers attitude is remarkably dismissive and aloof.

Chr. B. Dec 23, 2013

This in reference to the developer trying to double dip us consumers because he's a greedy POS, instead of supporting people who already paid for this app. Note to self and others - DO NOT SUPPORT THIS DOUCHEBAG DEVELOPER!

joe. P. Jan 16, 2014

Developer Ben Hirashima charges $5 to update his apps. Makes an app only to charge for simple updates under a new app name. Learn to be loyal to your paying customers! 2 years or 2 months should not matter! Why stick with an app that *doesn't work*? This app does not work my galaxy s4 4.4 Keep away from this developer.

A. G. u. Dec 25, 2013

I read your rationale for the product split - and - sorry I don't agree. You are not the first to have this need - and other devs have done the same - preserving our premium paid status - even after splitting off to a new product (Check RadarNow!). Also, Google Play accommodates the distribution of different code - based on OS version. Your analysis of options was incomplete and could have been handled in a number of other equitable ways. Look .99 isn't much - but your explanation is total BS.

Ric. M. Dec 23, 2013

Very easy to use and helps greatly. I even bought the paid version. Now you try to make me pay for the same app almost. I found another that does WiFi and Bluetooth now for free. Good bye!
