The biggest issue with this app is the messaging service. I often find myself refreshing the messages even though I've been notified about a message. The messages all so take a long time(relatively) to load and sync up. This is an issue because I use the app for when I'm away from the computer so timing is key.
The quality of Upwork has failed to improve since I first signed up. This app is very reflective of that. I downloaded it to brows jobs on the go, but it requires so much effort to find appropriate jobs that I've gone weeks without finding a single viable option. The notification system keeps showing an error, you can't filter for verified payment job offers or experience level.
I love the service but the app can be quite non-functional. I just ended a contract and wanted to gove feedback to a client and spent 15-20 minutes writing a description and when I wanted to post, the app just gave me an error. Sometimes message notifications don't work. The service can be very, very slow to use. There is an issue with using filters to search for jobs. Sometimes you try to apply filters and you get completely unfiltered results although the filters are supposedly applied.
The messages don't reach real time. There is a delay of atleast 3 to 5 minutes. And no notifications pop up for new messages. Thank god I have enabled "notify by email for every message" in the settings. Else I would be missing all my clients' messages. When you change from tab to tab (eg., proposals to messages), it takes forever to refresh that I feel it better/ easier to access Upwork webpage through my mobile browser.
I had a non-existent experience with the app. It just didn't work. I couldn't login, register, or do anything on the app. It kept showing Err. connection timed out and mind you, the problem wasn't with my phone because I was still receiving messages, and other apps that needed an internet connection to work were working normally. I guess I'm back to using my phone browser.
I've been working on Upwork for almost 3 years and this app has always been bad. Notifications aren't coming, everytime I open my messages I first need to press refresh 3-4 times until it syncs with new messages sent, the UI is badly designed for searching jobs, generally issues with connection. I appreciate all the good work Upwork is doing but we freelancers give a percentage of our earnings and we deserve a better app. I hope I'll come here in a year or a few and leave a 5 star revieq.
somehow made the app worse: decline button missing on jobs and typing in messages doesn't save spaces so yourwordscomeoutlikethisfornoreason really odd and I've checked around for a solution but no other app does it. messages super laggy. takes 10 seconds to load on s21 ultra. every other app is fine. the better option is simply using the "web version" on a browser. how sad.
Slow, clunky, hard to navigate, poor search engine, always displays notifications when actually there are none, and Upwork takes a 20% cut of every dollar you earn. Everything you wish this app was; it isn't. Generally depressing to use. Good luck!
Upwork itself has been a great platform for professionals like me. However, i think the app could use a little bit of tweaks and improvementa to make it much easier to use. It's a bit buggy. Messages are delayed. And things im looking for are difficult to find. Regardlesa, i still five if a 5 star because its such a great platform
The app was good but it gets stuck a lot. When I log into other devices it doesn't show me a notification so I can accept. If I have messages from a client or job requests it shows half of them sometimes it doesn't at all even though it has full permission. Takes too long to load anything even though my internet is okay everything else loads fine.
The app is an absolute nightmare. Half the time I don't even get notifications from clients and have to constantly check manually, but even then - sometimes messages wont even appear at all, forcing me to either check my email or on my desktop (which defeats the whole purpose of having an app.)
2022 update: The app is still super slow with loading messages. When the app fails to connect the only solution is to close it down and start again. Not cool guys. As with previous app I'm using it to check for jobs and send proposals which is super inefective considering the loading times. Messaging is also suffering from the same problem.
It keeps telling me that there's an unknown device logged in to my account even though I changed my password several times and already enabled the two-step authentication. I hope that you can add a feature where I can view and delete the unknown devices. Please also add more security features.
Regular features work fine. But sending text messages while you are uploading files isn't possible, a recent message open automatically when tab is clicked and it isn't as easy to switch between online and invisible as it is on the desktop site and app.
No notification until I open the app. Most of the time I fail to instant reply to my clients due to no notification. Even when I get notification on my gmail and open Upwork app I need to refresh multiple times to get my new messages and notifications. Humble request to rectify these problems as soon as possible. Please!
Signing up was easy, but then I tried verifying my phone number. The code sent through just fine! The issue is pressing send. I press send and nothing happened! It's like a broken button. I am trying to edit my profile and I cannot save my changes until I verify that phone number. If that is not fixed soon, might as well close the account. Complete waste of time.
Send on the phone app is extremely difficult to make work. In fact, I have given up on it and just go to my computer. Plus, the phone app keeps the alert notification on for long periods of time. The one on now has been there a day and a half. There is also trouble connecting. The establishing connection label is frequent and long lasting.
This app used to be excellent, but lately I have been experience troubles with it. Even while my data is on, it says I'm working offline. I don't get access to my messages early. Notification is too slow. Finally, the page closes more often when trying to attach a file or go to copy a web address for sample during proposals. It is so hectic writing proposals all over again once down. I am looking forward to a good fix in the next update.
App is very usefull, just need to get used to the few changes from the web version. I would however like to say, there are lots of scam posts so I recommend payment verification on new clients posting jobs and somehow integrate better filtering that automatically flags when cell phone numbers as in the job listing/description.
I love the app, very creative and helpful. But I encountered an issue if that's how I may call it. When I try to decline an invitation I get an error, something like 'you can only decline a interview'. If I'm doing something wrong please let me know. Thanks and again love the app.
The app lags... Especially the Messages section. Also you can't download pictures from messages... It shows waiting for Connection, but never connects. Open With, Save Share buttons don't do anything.
It has a lot of jobs but I do not like how it keeps bumping you off when you're doing a search and then you got to start all over again you can't go back to the page where you were so you really it it just the navigation and bumping you back to home it's really annoying
It used to work fine but now when I click a job offer it opens a lot of "job details" tabs and they never load, I can't make job proposals from the app anymore. I also stopped receiving the notifications for my messages and they won't load unless I go into the app and into the messages tab.
Has almost everything the desktop version has, except search settings which is a little bit of a drawback. Edit: it's been crashing a lot lately on the android version on Xiaomi, when I upload a file on job proposals. Fix this ffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's been a good experience on the app. The only issue I have is with message notifications. It is not instant as I expected, so I would often get the email notification and check (which is no different from using the web version). I bid for jobs with ease from the app, and every other functionality works well.
