The app just shows pictures and gives a phrase, not a word, and doesn't translate what the phrase actually means.
U can learn any language literally in the world. And U can pick what tho gs U want to offcis on like colours, animals or just any day things. Its soooo helpful.
It took a little while to figure out how to get access to full functionality, but the trick is SCROLL DOWN! Cause the topic menu is off the screen! And it doesn't even look like there is a menu, if you don't know it's there. This App is stable, and very effective at helping you learn a Language, the game format helps your mind relax so you can remember things quicker, and easier, and it feels more fun. The best thing I like about the App is they offer more Categories than the Computer Version!
As an enthusiastic user of over a dozen languages in the company's earlier Talk Now! app and related products for PCs and Macs it's interesting to see the evolution to the current uTalk app. There are four things that really draw me to uTalk and their earlier eurotalk products. First, relatively speaking they are not nearly as expensive as some of their competitors. Second, the range of languages is much greater than their main competitors by a wide margin. They have had every language that I've wanted to explore. Third, the exercises tend to be relatively short, often taking 5 minutes or less. I can pop in and do a little bit of practice in a short time. Some other products I know when I use them I'm going to need a much longer chunk of time before I get to a convenient stopping point and end up deciding against doing it as a result. And fourth, they have terrific support, and I don't want to suggest I've had any major problems with the eurotalk or uTalk products but I have on occasion had the odd question or two and I've never been disappointed by the friendliness and quality of response I've gotten from their support team.
Not a lot of grammar. It'd be easier to use and a lot less frustrating if the controls were better. I can tap on something multiple times, the app clearly sees it's a tap because it highlights it, but the app doesn't do anything. Same experience on phone and tablet. No other app I use acts this way.
Excellent and thorough! The 3.7 rating on here seems quite unfair; most complaints appear to be from people expecting more for free (and you actually can get a decent amount for free if you put the effort in). It's not really intended for 'dipping in and out of' like Duolingo or Drops, but as it's a bit more intense, I felt like I've learnt faster with uTalk than I did with Duolingo. If you're willing to put the work in, this is a solid app. And keep your eye out for decent offers too :)
Seemed like a cool app with just about every language that may have a decent niche demand. Issues are first of all a paywall. Then, my tingling senses premediating that there's going to be no grammar, or other in depth information, for that matter. Another issue may be the dullness of the exercises. Seems like a good or decent preparation for a tourist, definitely nothing for someone who wants to dig in and get proficient in a language. I don't recommend it at all.
This is an amazing language app. Flashcards help you learn, and native speakers give you the confidence to speak, a new language. With fun and competitive games, meaningful rewards and a great choice of languages this is an app for both young and not so young. My son and I love learning together, the only problem... Which language to choose next?! Highly recommended.
A really good app, my only gripe with it is that if you have a bad memory, it doesn't matter if you know the phrases or not, the memory game is almost impossible because you can't remember what phrase was under what card! I'm trying to get incredibly frustrating and demoralising. fewer cards at a time would be helpful.
Fantastic app, great and responsive customer service. Definitely aimed more at getting someone conversational than learning all the nuances of a language, but it's very informative in that aspect. I especially like the option of being able to record and compare yourself to the native speakers for each new word.
This is my all-time favourite language course. I also love comparing languages and this app is ideal for that. The customer service is absolutely top rate. I've rarely come across a company that is so attentive to their customer base. Other companies should take note. The lessons won't turn you into a fluent speaker, but they have been invaluable when I have been travelling and sometimes, you really can make up your own sentences from what you have learned on here. Which shows how good it is!
It's a good app that is overall well styled for learning a new language however i don't think the images tell you enough of what words /phrases you're learning (im learning sinhala) so I'm learning words that i don't know what they mean, I have to constantly jump between the tests and the practice to learn anything. When you answer a question right it should tell you it in your language as well as the new to reiterate its meaning better. A minor issue but frustrating.
Really like that it also has languages not commonly found in other apps, like chichewa.
I love this product as well as their phenomenal customer service. Several years ago I bought DVDs for both the French as well as the Cambodian language (Khmer) from Amazon. Unfortunately when I upgraded my computer to Windows 10 I learned that these DVDs were not compatible and did not work. I reached out to determine if I may be eligible for an upgrade into my great surprise they replaced both languages seamlessly expeditiously. I love the format as it helps me to learn quickly.
uTalk is fantastic! This app offers features that other language apps do not. In conjunction with another app that I use which focuses more on grammar and verb conjugation, I receive well-rounded Spanish lessons. If you took a language in school, uTalk is most comparible to the language lab aspect of that class. My kids love the voice features and game-like format. At times, the other app tends to become redundant, but with uTalk in the mix, they are having fun while learning Spanish!
You don't get to try it out with more than about 10 words. Not really enough to get a decent feeling of the app. Also can't tell how it mixes categories and presumably there's no way to limit tests to a few chosen chapters. Can't even see how many words are in the later chapters. Loads very slowly. Pretty disaappointed and not given time to like it. There are just too many other fun alternatives.
I am very impressed. Greatful to experience no complications from the start. I wasn't flustered nor exhaling about any what-the- Hecks and instead of waisting time and energy... delete. The app has just thee essential pictures to click on for getting started, sufficient colorful icons of the cultural places. I truly appreciated within the few moments this excitement for wanting to learn more. It's amazing and I'm thankful for the thorough navigation you've taken into consideration, excellence!
The app so often just hangs with the spinning loading icon. Or reports that your account does not have access to this material, despite it working previously often mere minutes earlier! Seems very dependent on network connectivity *when* it is launched. All in all a very poor experience, though the content is good when it works.
Updating this review now and bumping my rating up to 4 stars, because the issue has been resolved. As others have noted, while this app is a great way to learn languages, including some that aren't offered in a lot of the big-name apps, like Tagalog, it no longer works on Android devices after the latest update. The install fails, regardless of troubleshooting. If this gets resolved, I'd have a great review for the app.
This is a great app. It rewards good performances and achievements with points that can be spent on more categories. I do slightly prefere the disk version, but my first disk is lost which keeps me from being able to use the rest, however with this app i can learn on any device and pick any category whithin the language at any time.
Very good not so many possibilities to learn the Lebanese language and different exercises
The games are OK but there is no translation in to your own language so half the time you don't know what your learning. Not very well thought through. Would be good if this was changed
Just tried it, but I can tell it rocks. I went to undergrad in Montreal and have NEVER seen a language app that accurately deals with Quebec French. This NAILS the nuances. I have a lot of confidence it will do the same for other regional "dialects." Cramming Swahili for a trip to Tanzania, and feel confident already that I won't sound like an idiot.
The app - I like it, so far. I have completed all free content. However.... I used Facebook to sign in to the app as for some reason it would not set up my account with email and password. So now apparently I can't manage my account , and have been unable to buy my discounted subscriptio noffered by email. Tech support is friendly, but have not been able to suggest anything more helpful than to set up another account with a different email; which I do not have.
So far I like it. It could really benefit from a lexicon in the practice phrases section. Sometimes if I would have used a different word, it would be nice to know why a word was chosen instead. If I go to a website for examples or a definition the app resets when I get back.
Wanted immediate access to my phone and contacts and photos. Oh, hell, no. Deleted.7 To the developer: yep, contacts. I understand the "photo" part is really for graphics within an app. But when contacts/phone are mentioned, I won't give permission. I give mic permissions. But it said phone, not mic. You might want to check that.
Saved Google Password wont autofill on app. Not much content without payment. But rating 4* because it is very inexpensive with the 30% affiliate discount offered everywhere. Has 4 different types of Spanish, which is very cool
