This game should be amazing. The game is amazing, but the controls are such garbage that it's literally unplayable. Why isnt there an option for static movement buttons in a platform game? It's a platforming game for some reason, the movement should have been a priority in the port. Such a disappointment.
Great game, but unplayable. I've been looking forward to finally I've tried to use playing this classic rpg. the visuals and music are great, and the story is intriguing. However, not only do I hate touch controls, but the game had essential platforming segments that can't be done with touch controls. I've tried using a gamepad, but to no avail.
In terms of story and mechanics, Valkyrie Profile is a classic that stands the test of time. It's an excellent experience through and through. I only have one minor aggravation with this version: the inability to tweak or enhance visual performance. Personally, I'd be willing to sacrifice battery life for a less pixelated presentation and smoother FPS.
This is simply a poor way to play one of the best classic JRPGs of all time. Square put a lot of time into creating new, usually very eye-catching menus for this port, and of course Tri-Ace's spritework is at the top of their craft, but some of the platforming is way too imprecise with touch controls. This coming from the first dungeon, I can't even fathom how some later, more difficult platforming challenges will play out. It's a shame this is the only modern port of such a masterpiece.
SOLUTION!! Yes the controls are HORRIBLE because of the touch screen, BUT I found a solution if you own a PS4 controller!! If you hold the ps button and share button on the controller at the same time, in a few seconds the controller will start blinking differently than usual. If u go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone, you will see that you can connect your PS4 controller to your phone!! This makes field movements and battles feel like the good ole days, but menus are still touch screen.
Easily one of the best games ever is totally ruined for the simple fact that it's not able to do Multi-touch on it. It's been years since I got this game and Haven't been able to get outside from the first dungeon. Not because it's hard, it just extremely annoys the hell out of me that the controls are so bad. They should've just used some mimic'd controller buttons instead.
Not worth buying!!! Controls are horrible!! It would have helped if there was an option for the character controls outside of combat to be static. Also during battle when you have a combo going you sometimes have to select a character twice in order to get them to use their special losing valuable % during that time. Fix the controls and I'll revisit this rating.
Oh boy, this is one I've been thinking long about since I saw this pop up on the store. I was hoping for a remake, I was fearing a reimagination, and what we got was a nostalgia trip. -Bad- Oh boy, the controls are... wonky at their best. They do take some getting used to. There also appears to be a bug with the trait brave. It asks the player to spend 25,364 CP to upgrade it, and you can only hold 999 CP total. Yes there are micro transactions, but they are not needed. Game is easier without.
Although there are a few annoyances in the port, it was overall well done. I enjoyed the game even more now than I did on the playstation many years ago. I cannot in good conscious give it less than 5 stars. It does need a scene skip option and better gesture based movement controls instead of the on screen joystick though. Let this game be engraved upon your soul!
Despite the controls for the side-scrolling elements being absolutely inexcusable, this game is SO unbelievably incredible that it outshines the one poor port decisions Square Enix made. The content in the game is all intact, with additional things you can purchase if you choose to - not a single purchasable thing adds anything to the actual game. The PSP port is better, but this is absolutely worth the money if you've never played it.
Really nice to see this game in amazing graphics thankyou. The biggest issue with this game is the analog touch screen control! It isn't great!! Please update and have the option to turn on a constant touch D-pad which stays on screen like most emulators. Would solve the problem completely and I will then rate 5 🌟
All time great game, but the controls (during platforming areas) seem to alternate between hyper sensitive and unresponsive. VP always had tricky platforms, but the jump button in this port is unreliable. Not game breaking, but makes hard to reach treasures a real chore. Still worth every penny.
Seems enjoyable, but very poor controller support. Tried three different controllers - only a wired one worked, which is not a good choice for gaming on a phone. No ability to test or customize controls either, you just have to hook it up, go in-game, and mash buttons to see how things work. The FF4 port had good controller support, so why didn't Valkyrie Profile? Judging by others' comments on a certain section of the game being impossible with the touch controls, I have to pass on this one.
Would be pretty good if it weren't for the fact that the mobile controls make some parts of the game unplayable because they don't register my inputs fast enough. The dark tower of Xerva is literally impossible because the app registers the input to jump so slowly that she can't make it across the three pillars in that one room before getting knocked off.
One of the best RPGs ever made. Even it's sequel could barely match-up to it. This version has been optimized for mobile devices and it works beautifully. Optional quality-of-life in-game purchases are available but not really needed. Worth the price tag and a definite steal if it goes on sale. You love JRPGs, turn-based gameplay and norse mythology? Buy this. Now.
Hello, I wanna say this game is awesome! I love knowing this game is being remaked! However, there's some bug/glitch about Nanami's voice in Voice Collection, the no 19 one. I've tried to get her voice by getting damage from enemies, but the voice won't come out. Will you fix this so I can complete the Voice Collection by myself? Thank you.
Easily one of the best - if not the best RPG of it's era. This is a great port of a game that was very under rated for its time. With all the hand painted backgrounds, awesome voice acting, and a very great story , this game still holds up. Now Square-Enix, get off your @$$es and make part 3!
Have a controller, controls are mediocre. Partial control. Didnt try touchscreen as I had it playing on a bigger screen. Bought cause I saw controller support and want to play on a big screen... unlike The last remnant. (No controller support what so ever) I do not understand porting things to phones and taking away the ability to use a controller from games originally played with a controller. Barely got into the game. Can't give it a honest review. Square Enix...why do you do this?
Difficult to control on a cellphone, without a d pad it makes the quick platform sections an incredible chore and there's no option to turn the sensitivity of the virtual d pad. You basically full sprint immediately with the slightest twitch. Love this game but it's a pain to play on mobile.
Phenomenal franchise that unfortunately was descontinued for various reasons despite critically postive reception (for the most part)... The only legitimate issue present here are the controls, otherwise it's performance is perfect. I can only hope Silmeria makes its way here too since it's apparently locked to the PlayStation 2.
Interesting updates. Love the game. One thing I find confusing, however, and am not sure is a glitch. Llewenn, the bow user we get at the bbeginning, has a character trait "brave" for a whopping 25364 points. Is that a mistake or on purpose?
The title screen states that this is the PSP version of the title yet they removed the cut scenes and some voice files to offer them as DLC. This is unacceptable. I was also unable to receive a refund for this game despite having purchased it less than two hours ago.
The App show no signs of bug or anything it run smooth, I completed the game in 2 weeks only. It's been a year now since it's in my phone, and I still enjoy it playing over & over. Hope to see in App Store the part 2 of this game, Valkyrie Silmeria it would be awesome if you do that SQUREENIX. I gave this App 5* rating, this is the first time I rate game also this is one of childhood game very "NOSTALGIC" keep it up :)
Only a few hours into the game and have noticed one glaring thing. I saved before I went to sleep, just closed my phone. Didn't close game, just turned off phone screen. Woke up and opened phone to continue game and the game had been counting my time! I went from 4hrs played to over 11hrs played. Not cool when your endgame score depends on how long it took you to beat the game (lower time, higher grade).
Masterpiece ever, no doubt! However, English version dubbing not good, I feel those voices just don't suit the characters especially for Lezard, quite horrible. Wish they will put on Japanese version later, wouldn't mind with in-game purchase. The floating joystick is painful but go with a gamepad will solve everything.
It is valkyrie profile lenneth alright. But i'm sure the control could be better, and the pay to "cheat" system just make it worse, you still can play without it. I'd still recommend it tho, if you havent play valkrie profile. Just need time to adjust with the control
Works as well as I hoped it would but the controls are difficult at times. Yeah... the controls are my only problem here. Jumping from one platform to another is a pain but you get used to it. Great game nonetheless
I honestly managed to get the A ending. It's pretty good for the sale right now. Some platforming can be more difficult with the touch screen but...like I said. I finished on hard and did all dungeons. It's playable and it looks good. The microtransactions are only if you want to cheat in the game. Not mandatory to use.
