How does VarageSale work?
* Join a local community to buy and sell. A local user admin moderates the community to help build a safe and non-threatening environment. Admins review members that requests to join to ensure they are real people and local.
* Post your items to the feed. It’s quick and easy from the website, but even easier on our mobile app. Post anything from clothing, baby items, shoes, accessories, to home decor and more.
* Browse the feed to see what people are selling nearby. Comment on an item to ask questions or express your interest to buy.
* Private message a user to confirm transaction details, such as final price, pick up time and location. Users typically meet at someone’s house or in a public space, like a parking lot, to complete the transaction.
* Had a good transaction? Leave praises on member profiles so others know they are a pleasure shop with.

VarageSale is great, but the app is even less than mediocre. Sometimes I'll see that I have notifications about followed categories, but I have to kill and reopen the app to read them. Sometimes, ads won't open. Other times, there's a huge lag between a person messaging me and the notification popping up. Despite these issues, the app hasn't been updated since January 2021. That shows exactly how much they care about it.
I don't get notifications until I open the app which makes me miss messages for pick ups. There is no report feature for people that don't show up or stop responding, you have to talk to an admin or report the whole transaction. Items are left on there for years without being taken down, which floods the available items with stuff that does exist. Also, some ads just blast sound for minutes at a time, and you have to close and reopen the app or turn off your volume.
An awesome way to buy/sell in your local areas! Developers are usually quick to fix any bugs that develop in the app. I love the fact that I can list items for sale as I decide to sell instead of saving everything up to do an actual garage sale. Search engines work excellently to make it easy to find an item to purchase and they add catagories as neccessary to narrow down that search.
Very simple and straightforward, great for selling things. However since I started on this app it has been buggy for 3 years. Messages come in delayed (up to an hour even), some days it is so slow you can't open anything, it logs you out randomly and sometimes you can't access notifications. This has been going on for a while and it is not just with me either. Oh, and try skipping these 30 second long ads that pop out at you with max volume...you can't.
Very good app. 90% of the time it's absolutely great, but the other 10% is frustrating because the notifications don't always appear on time, sometimes you get a days worth of messages all at once a day later and sometimes you aren't notified at all so you have to constantly open each conversation multiple times a day to see if there is a response or update. But when it works, it's fantastic. I still love it, just wish the notifications worked properly. Otherwise it's amazing!!!
Awful, especially lately. It's always been a little glitchy, but nothing worse than regular issues with retrieving info, viewing items, etc. When you set up meeting times with buyers or sellers, and then can't retrieve the info they messaged you, that makes the app pointless. I've been using this for years, but it's gotten so bad I'm likely going to switch to something else.
Love love love VS! Took off one * because some minor flaws (when you remove an item from your watchlist, do it from the list. If done on the item's page, your watchlist doesn't refresh until you get out and reopen it). Also, pictures only appear in the order you upload. Wish we could change the order. There is a praise system, but no obvious way to give other buyers a heads up if you had a bad experience, although, it is community-based and so far I've had mostly good meetups.
The user interface is a bit clunky, and it has phases when notifications don't work or it goes offline, but overall it works okay and serves its purpose. Areas for improvement: When selecting images, you can choose up to 5 from your recent photos, but if you go through the lengthy and awkward navigation to choose an image from a specific folder, you can only choose one photo at a time. Message & meetup notifications are also inconsistently unreliable...sometimes late, sometimes nothing at all.
This used to be a great app. An easy way to buy and sell items but, this last year, it has been abysmal. Crashing, failing to retrieve notifications, messages not getting through, etc. If you can get through to the helpdesk they continously say they're working on it and to try again later. Surely they would have come up with a fix within a year but no. It's frustrating and I imagine people, including myself, have lost out on a lot of sales due to this app working very intermittently.
Fine, but would really like to receive alerts on saved searches as I can do on craigslist. It would save a lot of time for me and sellers as there are specific things I am looking for. Also when you do a search there is no way to sort the search so that newest items appear first. Super annoying. Also annoying is that I often have to close and reopen the app to view new notifications.
Easy to use, enjoyable app for a fairly local shopping experience on mostly used items. Aside from some lack of clarity on exactly WHERE the item is being sold from/where the seller will meet u it is pretty straight forward. I would suggest the developers get rid of the pre-written, one button sentences (such as: "NO LONGER INTERESTED" & ""AVAILABLE") as they appear in odd spots and at times that lend confusion rather than clarification to the buyer's experience. All in all, it's easy & useful!
Every update breaks something, generally making the entire app useless. It takes days to weeks to fix even when it's a major issue. Imagine trying to buy or sell something when notifications are down. You have no way of knowing if someone wants something. Try looking to buy something when the thumbnail is all that's available and you can't see a description or full pic. The entire site is inaccessible with irritating frequency. These are not one off occurrences, they happen regularly.
Since the update a few days ago, the app doesn't work for me at all. When I type in a search it says "oops, something went wrong, please try again"... When I look at notifications (even if it indicates I have some) it says "failed to fetch notifications", and the main feed doesn't load at all. I've had this app for almost 3 years now and it ONLY get worse.
Annoying but I use it. People's profiles say they have several items for sale so you click to see them and it says there's nothing for sale. Photos upload in a way that makes them extra large and hard to see properly in thumbnail form. When posting an ad you can fill all the info in and write a big description but if you click the back button you lose it all and have to start again. You can't be alerted when items come up for sale in your area only if you are subscribed to multiple areas.
Love the app, minus tech issues. This is such a great concept and I love the community. But the app does have a lot of technical issues like my watch list not updating or partially updating, messages not appearing, notifications not delivering, which makes the experience really frustrating. I love the concept though and will keep using it.
Constantly freezes with error meassages galore! This used to be a fun site to sell on but it is unusable. When posting a new item, you enter in all the photos, title, description, and price, but it won't publish unless you go back and delete a letter or a number in each area, add it back in again, then it accepts it. But it won't include any of the painstakingly entered description when you go to the site to check your listing! Too much work to sell anything. Will be deleting my account.
Overall the app is very useful. Would be great if developers can remove the pop up ads that go over the whole screen with music playing. Very annoying, and with ads already showing between all the items I think it's not necessary to have pop up ads yet. Would also like if negative feedback/rating can be given for people that don't show up or so.
Nice to have a place to buy good used items. But it's very frustrating if you forget your password login. I did and clicked to send email to reset several times and didn't get email to reset. I finally figured out my password on my own. Now I have no notifications updating on the app. Nothing new showing in the last 24 hours?!
About 80% of the time I don't get email or push notifications when I have a message. I have lost several sales because of this. There should be some guidelines on how to use the app. Some people use the 'interested' option to bookmark things they might like to buy while others use it to indicate they want to buy the item instead of messaging. This has caused some confusion and lost sales as well.
Love buying and selling on this app. I really like the way it organizes the items you are selling by category and the feature that allows you to reserve an item for a customer immediately. It helps secure the sale. I also like how it color codes items that are available, pending a sale, and no longer available. The only thing is I cant seem to get pictures in my gallery to show up on a listing so I have to take pictures of the items Im selling through the app camera. This app is the best.
Really appreciate this app but I absolutely hate the ads! They pop up within 10-15 seconds, are LOUD (music & or someone talking) & fill the entire screen. I have to close the app to get away from it. Very frustrating & annoying. I would far prefer to pay for this app (assuming it's affordable) then have to put up with these horrible ads. I no longer scroll through listings to shop as a result. To the Varage Sale creators: pls offer a an option to pay for the app or free with ads.
Images are not loading. convenient way to shop second hand from the comfort of home. generally sellers are easy to transact with and setting pick ups are easy. the app itself has far too many ads and needs more search and sort filters. browsing the items for sale would be much easier if you could filter price points and sort by price scales in addition to the current filters offered.
Love varage sale, the app is easy to use. Until a week or so ago it logged me out and now will not let me log back in with Facebook or email. I emailed the help line the said it's just a technical issue. I've downloaded and I downloaded it numerous times. I now I have to use the website which doesn't send you emails like the app did even with the settings on. Would really like to get back on the app as I'm missing out on alot of messages and sales for weeks now with no help from varage support
