Veileder i akuttpsykiatri

The supervisor in acute psychiatry (VAP) was originally written by physicians for physicians
psychiatric department of the hospital Østfold. The guide was created after a
desire of doctors in specialization, which missed an easily accessible tool
for assessment and treatment of patients on duty. VAP has since proven
useful for both doctors and other medical staff at other psychiatric wards
in Norway, in somatic departments, emergency services and for employees in front-line services.

In updated version in July 2018, we have also to revise consisting
chapters added new kaptiler about eating disorders, mental disorders under
and after pregnancy as well as expanded chapter psychotropic drugs / other treatment
multiple medications and ECT, LAR and milieu therapy. The chapter on legal
conditions are updated according to changes in the PHL with links to Lovdata.

The guide covers the acute phase of illness. VAP is not a textbook, but a
indicative aid. It must always be holistic assessments based on
individual and situational factors, and local policy. By ordination
of drugs have interactions, comorbidities and contraindications always
considered. The drugs mentioned are suggestions and are based on the most frequently
used compositions.

With VAP we desire to collect the acute psychiatric field nationally. We
hope VAP will help to facilitate the training of new doctors and other health care professionals,
and think VAP will be able to improve quality and patient safety for acutely ill patients
with psychiatric symptoms. VAP is thought to increase the interaction between doctors from different fields in the specialist, and different levels of health care. To succeed
with this we rely on user feedback, and suggestions for updates, changes or else be sent to:

VAP was first released in paper form in 2013 and in 2014 became VAP launched as an application (Windows platform). From 2016 has VAP been available on all platforms. This has increased the availability and will also facilitate the update. In 2015 acute psychiatric department of Aker University had responsibility for management and updating of the VAP, and the current editorial committee consisting of doctors from Østfold Hospital and Medical Psychiatric Center, Akershus University.

We thank all partners for their participation. A special thanks to the management of
mental health care at Østfold Hospital, for positive attitude and support in the development of
VAP, and the South-East of innovation funding for the project, which made possible the development avVAP and Fund Committee for the Norwegian Medical Association for project funding for revision and updating. It addressed also a big thank you to the medical library at Akershus
