I like that there is no fee, unlike similar apps, such as cashapp. However, it is a little tough to navigate, and I had trouble setting up my bank information. It kept telling me they have issues with my specific bank (credit union) And to try again later. Well later never came, as it always said the same message. Then it connected to my bank account without notifying me or anything! Which is cool it's all up now, but a heads up would have been nice. Mediocre.
It's really hard to find your friends list on the app. It took me quite some time to find it. A few months ago I accidentally sent money to a wrong person with the same name and since then added the correct person to my friends list and sent them money several times, however still when I press "pay or request" and type the name, the first person that pops up is the wrong one I once sent money. It would be good if my friends would be prioritized in the search.
Rating this because Venmo keeps asking me to. Not going to stop using it because it's become a necessity. It was a lot more convenient to use when the list of transactions included the memo without having to click on a transaction to look. I preferred being able to see the amount I spent, who I paid, and for what all at once rather than having to click on each individual transaction.
With every new update, the app gets more buggy. For example, when I recieve money the amount stays at 0$ until I go back to home and come back a few times. It eventually does appear, but the amount of time it takes makes me worry every time. There are a few glitches like this that I am hoping will be fixed in the future. In addition, I had problems with customer service when I had an issue. Edit: now I can't send cute gifs when I send money. Very disappointed.
New toggle button for payment is confusing. It makes it look like you have to switch it on to make a payment, when switching it on actually turns it into a payment for goods or services and charges the other person a fee. I have two payments to friends that I'm now trying to cancel because that button was misleading.
I love Venmo but this app is absolutely garbage. I'm software engineer so I know what it takes to develop a mobile application and I have never had to quit out of an app so many times due to unresponsiveness in my entire life. So. Many. Bugs. Sometimes all the images change to a single image, random freezes, and random quitouts all together. Connecting to your banks is seemeless so props to the backend engineers for that but I don't even want to go into how bad the UX design is
I absolutely love venmo. This is my favorite app for sending/receiving money. Its easy to use & doesn't charge ridiculous fees. I've actually earned money from using the free debit card you can get with the app. Also since I have the debit card I do not have to wait for the money. I can withdrawal it straight from an ATM or just pay with the card. Easy peasy!
I don't know what has happened to the app but I can no longer add any debit or credit cards through it. I can only add cards through the website. Even after I add the cards, they are not being allowed to be used for transactions because of Venmo's system. I call customer service and they are absolutely useless, not creating a ticket number or anything to resolve. Their response is "use a different card". Unfortunately I have specific purchases to place of specific credit cards for tax purposes.
Best thing ever, makes transactions easy and gets rid of that awkward act of splitting the bill for all of the waiters and waitresses that don't have time for that. One thing though, just set everything to private, you don't need a weird paper trail from anyone, especially your transactions.
I find it odd that you can't "cancel" or report an unexpected or unauthorized received payment in app. Their help page says "send it back." Why is there not a feature to report/cancel/ it directly in the app?! This is how so many phishing scams happen. Even if they can't get my bank info (according to the app), I don't trust an app that can't take care of it. Seems like a security nightmare to me.
The balance is never accurate. It does not update when a transaction is made. They make free transfers (1-3 business days) as difficult as possible but instant transfers that take 2% of your transfer amount really easy. If you want your transactions private; you have to select private every time you open the app. I think it defaults to share (publicly) your transactions...I have no idea why thats even a feature to begin with. The app relies on inaccuracies, to skim money from your bank. Trash!
This app is so buggy. I love it when it works but it crashes several times before it will load long enough to complete a transaction. I love how easy it is and how community friendly the concept is, but I have opened it several times today and the app crashed at the pin entry screen. Same issue happened on my old phone.
Very convenient way to transfer money. The surcharge on credit cards being billed to the merchant instead of the consumer is a bummer for small businesses, hopefully that can eventually switch. Can also be a bit confusing to connect two different personal accounts to the same business account. Overall though, it is a great tool for easy, flexible payments!
Not really a fan. I have a balance but I can't use it because I've not been "verified." I've sent the requested documents 3x now but they always say it's not enough😑... I was verified enough to receive $$ but not to send that same $$ to someone else?? Oh and I can transfer that $$ to my bank... IF I give permission to yet another organization to use my bank data?! WTH Paypal?!🤨 Plus, now the app just keeps freezing up while navigating. I have to shut it down to regain control.
Venmo is absolutely ridiculous! They won't allow me to send or receive money, unless they give permission! They constantly freeze my account for weeks without explanation! I have to jump through hoops, in hopes, that ill ever see my money again! Venmo has complete control! I don't understand how they can legally withhold it! I've attempted to close my account, but they freeze it again! I would NEVER recommend this app to anyone!! Plus, the only way to talk to a specialist is by email!!!
The interface is a train wreck. If it takes 30 minutes to explain how to use this to a 70 year old, it's poorly designed. The app asks for your contact list but you can't search your Venmo friends via contact list. Way to easy to send money to the wrong person, no built in safe guards.
I like venmo for payments, but feel as if they need to change the the pay button to where you have to confirm it. I accidentally paid someone and would not have done so if the pay button was in a different area/ looked different than the request button and made me confirm the payment. I don't understand why the payment doesn't make you confirm; but the request does? It also allows you to cancel your request afterwards. Seems like they're just trying to get money out of people. Change it!
Worst payment app EVER!!! I have had this app on my phone for two years and it has never worked. I have always received "There was an issue with your payment. Try again later." I have validated all of my information and I have money in my account, but it still has the same issue. Sent an email and they can't determine why their "risk" system is rejecting it. I even called customer service and they reiterated the same BS. I was even referred to use an alternate payment system...and I will.
You keep making it harder and harder to see payment details at-a-glance. Some of us rely on the descriptions and now we have to tap on each...individual...payment... Just to read them. Also, bring back the loading indicator when you make a payment - it's so weird to tap a button and have nothing happen untill it suddenly jumps to the "completed" state.
This app is a life saver. I cannot think of any way in which it could be made more simple to use. While not required to use, both the additional pin and biometric feature, in the settings, is a great safety comfort, esp, if you have children who often play with your phone. It prevents access if the ph is entered using a security pin by requiring a separate pin to access VENMO. The fact that it keeps a record and allows a memo of each transaction purpose is also very helpful.
Update: I reached out via email and it is still not fixed. They tell me to send a screeshot of the error but I can't send a screenshot because the sites security won't let you take a screenshot. Now I get NO response from anyone. PLEASE FIX THE TECHNICAL ERRORS!!! Fix your app! Can't verify my bank account because it won't let me move the decimal. For instance, looks like .10 instead of 10.00. I also tried to chat but it won't show the full screen to press options.
They say you can make transactions for free if you wanna wait 1-3 business days but they intentionally make it almost impossible to do, while making the instant transactions (which take like 2% of the money) way easier. No explanation given for how to navigate the app too. Friends and contacts don't show up when you tell it to show them, even when you search for them by names and emails and phone numbers. What little talent the developers have for coding, they use to milk your wallet dry.
Took a while to get it validated. But now that it is I really like it. Very fast money transfer. Update. Still like this app a lot. Not much liking the fact that transfers are not private. Used Venmo to pay for something at a yard sale, now I see their personal purchases. Tried changing the settings and it still shows everything. If I didn't like it so much, I wouldn't use it.
This is THE WORST app I've ever dealt with. I verified my bank account and my debit card, can't move forward if the wrong info is entered, my account is in good standing, I'm trying to use the transfer now option, keeps suing that doesn't work. This is not a pre paid account, it's my bank account. Customer service hung up on me after 30 minutes of wait time. The only reason I'm giving it 1 start is because I can't move forward without hitting 1. But I can send it and wait though!!
Venmo looks cool and provided me a favorable credit limit but is lacking in its management of credit card features and functionality. Unlike other cards, such as Capital One and Citi Bank, payments don't immediately update to the available credit. If you're a new cardholder, updates to your available credit may take several days. I've had transactions that don't appear where transactions are supposed to appear but only show on statements. I like Venmo but the app needs some upgrading.
Just awesome! I wish everyone I know had it! Can reach out and help people in financial situations quickly and easily. I would have gone 5 stars if the accurate balance showed consistently. It is very frustrating when you open the app and have to flip back and forth between screens for up to 2 minutes before the new balance adjusts from the last use and displays accurately.
