When it works it's fine, but, it constantly freezes and fails to find vessels once that has happened. Looking for a more reliable alternative.
It's a great app,all you need to know + photos also included. I love it.
Absolute junk. Slow out dated info and everything is apparently satellite. Show a ship in a postition and 9 times outta 10 can guarantee that was logged anywhere from 2 days to 10 days ago... then you want $1400AUD for a yearly satellite plan haha get your hand off it. Another example, im in my local harbor as i speak and theres been 2 tugs here for atleast a day but apparently theres 1 🤷♂️
Originally downloaded the free version and it worked very well. Bought and downloaded the Pro Version and maps reluctant to load, uninstalled and got refund. Now have the free version installed again and the maps are almost useless as they either don't load or are so slow to appear. So it's a 👎 from me.
Latest update does not work on my Nexus 7. Freezes on first page. Answer - this was due to Android System WebView having been uninstalled.
Very disappointing that an expensive subscription is now required to access the satellite data without which the app is virtually useless.
If you have a view of shipping lanes it's invaluable. Lots of information and pictures of the vessels. Fascinating to see wherebtheve come from and going to. Was particularly helpful when in lockdown. You realised there was still a world out there!
Have recently been on a cruise and every time I checked vessel finder app, the reported position of our ship seems to tally with what I can see out the window / my phone's GPS, so can't see why people are saying the ship's positions aren't up to date. The app works well and I find it easy to locate ship's I'm interested in, or find out what the ship on the horizon is.
Used to be a very good app, but recently it has become almost useless. Not showing all ships, and out of date positions. Hoped that problems would be resolved, but alas no. Uninstalling app and switching to Marine Traffic instead.
Very disappointing. Vessel Finder used to be very useful, but now 90% of the ships you tap on simply pop up a satellite subscription promotional that they want you to subscribe to. Not worth your money or time anymore. Find another app.
Dont know what you have done, but since this last update it simply does not work. Its updated on two phones on different android levels. Doesnt work now on either. Prior to this I loved it, now it is of no use. Please address issue, or revert back to previous level.
The latest update, which must be installed because the previous version forced you to update, is slow and non-responsive on Android devices! This is even after any updates described in the messages below were completed. I would no longer recommend this app.
Worked pretty well for about 6 months then stopped. Shows tags but not names unless you pay an exorbitant fee to upgrade. Uninstalling !!! Pity because it was quite good, but the paid version is ridiculously expensive
I have just walked over the port area where I live and on one the berths there are two large cargo vessels. According to this app there are NO vessels in the port and it reports the actual position of the vessels as 30 miles away. Useless, just going to uninstall now.
I find this site updates often. It is usually accurate. I really enjoy it. Informative and economical. I cant afford much. Being a free site is awesome for me! My father was chief of lock operations & maintenance at Eisenhower & Snell Locks in Massena, NY for many years. I love following the ships. Thank you for bettering my experience! ⚓
Best tracker I've found. It's fast to render vessels and provide data in an easy format. Only reason I gave it four stars is because it provides metric-only weights and measurements.
Doesn't allow for fixing/showing the observer's position, much less distance and bearing to a target. So can hardly be used for visually identifying ships from shore.
The first week was fine, then Vessel Finder just stopped showing all the ships coming through the straights I live on. Maybe one ship or two that powered through the night before, and then just stopped. Glad I'm not paying.
Slightly better than worthless. Multiple attempts on tablet to view ships. Out of date info. Searched for a ship off west coast of scotland, couldn,t find it so did a search which showed the ship in the med 28 days previously!!! Have to zoom in till almost sitting on top of vessels before they become visible. Need I say more?
