Overall it's very useful. I just wish I could view my digital trim on the app - dual graphs cover my factory gauges, but instead I'd need to spend over $600 bucks for a SmartCraft connect gateway in order to view it on my graph. Pretty steep prices for an already expensive $25k engine.
It's the most difficult to use piece of dung I've ever had the miss fortune to deal with. It drops off continually and you can't restart it. It gives alerts for no reason. I hate that it's tied to the internet. Half the time you can't get internet service at the lakes. Planes fly over and jam your signals. I can't see the images in the sun so unless it's night time out, I'm hosed up. I have to wait till I get home. Then the Bluetooth is out of range. I can't believe I bought it.
A very good app but it is not user friendly. It also has 2 annoying issues for me. One is I can't pull up any data once the engine is not connected. So I can't review the days data later at home. Also it keeps telling me I have maintenance due. I have my engine serviced yearly and record it in the app but it still has the pop up
This app would be great if it had landscape mode and ability to log engine trip data. The ability to log data should be user controlled and stored local. This would provide value off the water for boat setup tweaks. Shouldn't need internet connection. The social features of app are useless. Stick with what folks get this app for, engine data. Profect that and you have something special.
The startup is very frustrating. Why does it keep insisting that I need to sign on??? Why why why?? You can get around it but then it asks the next time. Just let me turn off the need to login please. Also it keeps forgetting to auto connect to the motor... Even when set in the settings. It seems to constantly forget. Argh!!! Otherwise it is good.
The biggest problem with this app is the need to sign in to read the error codes. This does not work if you have an engine failure somewhere without cell or WiFi service. An example would be the Canyon country of Lake Powell or out at sea. If one knew what the problem was they just might be able to fix it and get under way again. I consider this to be a significant failure for a product that is supposed to aid the Mercury outboard user.
I had some initial trouble with the VVM. With some great focused help from Merc tech support It was determined that the problem was from some wiring anomalies from Bayliner. It was very simple to correct the problem. Having real-time info on engine status oil pressure water temperature actual fuel consumption accurate hours is amazing. Unusual to have this kind of information available on a small vessel. Tech support was out standing. VVM is must have.
Used for about 1 month and it works pretty well, I am happy with it so far. Would be nice if you could export to PDF the range of sensor readings for the trip, for example water and oil pressure at various speeds, like you can with MPG graphs and charts.
Been using this app for years. Upgraded my phone from Samsung S9 to S20. Now I have lost access to maintenance screen. Everything else still working. Maintenance screen is one of the reasons why I bought the kit! Been emailing Mercury product support. They suspect terminator resistor is bad. Tried 2 other phones and same problem! Would like to try older app version as a test.
App worked fine in the fall (october) Sense the app updated in Nov. Has not worked . Can not update gas when at pump..will not stay on goes off then keeps saying app has stopped. Dont know what to do So talked to you guys did what you said . Got home connected to bluetooth on motor still does not work. Have not even had this a year ad all these problems. Update Nov. 20 caused all this. Please help
It doesn't work. Last year it did and now it'll connect but give no info. No rpms, no updated engine hours, nothing. Multiple reinstalls and nothing. It's completely broken. I'm at the point of pulling it off and putting an hour meter on it if it isn't fixed soon.
I'm using this on an Android tablet. When I go into a certain part of the app it's really hard for me to navigate back to the home screen. I try swiping left swiping you right swiping up swiping down and none of it seems to work.
Was fine for the first few days. After that, would bring up mercury logo like the app was loading, the just go back to home screen. If i try to reload it, it does same thing, and says vesselview keeps stopping. I purchased a $225 Bluetooth connector for my brand new engine so I could log hours and do proper break in procedures. Now app does not work and I have no idea what my RPMs are, how many engine hours I have. Edit:clear data seemed to get me in, will check connectivity soon
As you can see from my previous review the thing that I thought could be improved was the addition of landscape mode, and now it has it. every update has added useful features. this app is a Home run! Great job!
app connects quickly and stays connected. I now have a wealth of data at my fingertips. my tab a has now become a 8 inch vessel view gauge. I'm very happy with purchase. please stay engaged with this app and continue to upgrade or patch it as necessary.
It works I got a new new boat from a private party and it will not display the hours on it. Got the blue tooth connector and it works great. I will have want to see more options on the map, like changing diff layers.
Nice when it works. Problem is it drops out constantly rendering it useless. It will eventually reconnect before it drops out again. Worked great before last update. Contacted support twice with no response!
Update: Customer Support is excellent. May have found a solution to my issue. Will post after test: I did an impulse buy cause of the features the app would provide, but I should've looked at these reviews before I bought. Went thru 2 units with brand new engine. Got the 2nd unit to work but only for 5 second before the data freezes. Tech will just refer you to a dealer for a fix, so be prepared to lose your boat while it is in the shop that I doubt they will be able to fix.
Works pretty well. To get to some screens is not very intuitive. Mostly use it for gas consumed it is very accurate, unlike the Gauge in the boat which is so far off to be useless
For $280 I had hoped for a better UI but I'm just glad it works with my 2002 150 Optimax. no ECM update needed. How about the ability to export data from specific points in time?
App seems old and clunky. Needs to be reworked. Not very intuitive. Could be much better if they tried. I would give more stars if the app were easier to navigate.
this app has the potential to be amazing but i have no idea who is on their UI team but cleary not end users. also this app is now crazy slow and laggy. the best update that has ever been made to this app was the auto reconnect feature.
Updated app now nothing. When i open the app and hit connect the little circle spins then stops. Won't bring up my boat. Worked before update. Bluetooth on. Both lights green on module and module showing connected under my bluetooth.
Doesn't work. Hooked up to my 496 Mag HO. Bluetooth connects but won't complete initial setup. Update: turns out i needed to purchase the yellow termination cap to properly connect. It's now working.
The app works great now, my issues i was having were solved when took my phone out of developer mode, along with an update on the app, it works as intended on the Google pixle 3 xl now, Just waiting on landscape mode.. Thanks for finally adding landscape mode!
tech support is awesome. also a great tool for the motor. One thing I have read on the vessel view is diagnostic is done over the internet so if you don't have internet I don't believe the diagnostic will work but everything else does.
Initially I had difficulty getting the unit connected to the app. Discovered that you should NOT go into bluetooth settings on your device to pair. Doing this prevents the app to connect. I found this in the FAQ's on the Mercury web site. If the instructions were made more clear it would have saved a lot of time and frustration. To pair you just install the unit and open the app. Mine connected.
