ViaOpta Daily

ViaOpta Daily is designed as a personal assistant to help people identify objects or places in everyday activities. You can use the app to:

• Understand the world around you with greater ease using features such as the voice-guided money, scene, object and color recognizers.
• Take a picture of written text and the app will read it out loud.
• Listen to the weather forecast, set a timer, and access your phone’s contact list.
• The app also has a convenient built-in magnifying glass

The object recognition is excellent - it managed some pretty tricky things. BUT in order to fit the object in the screen you have to hold the phone at some distance from it. For example, to scan a plate of food, I had to stand on a chair! Some objects I had to go to the other side of the room to fit the whole object in screen. That's OK for me, because I'm sighted, but would make it extremely difficult for a blind person. I don't understand why it's doing this - it's the equivalent of zooming my camera 4x

Has potential since it combines several functions into one app -but at this time, I would stick with other, individual apps. The Magnifier function did not magnify. It would take the picture, but that is all. The money reader sort of worked, but there are other apps that work faster (Blind-Droid Wallet comes to mind). The color recognizer wanted to see no colors on many items I tested or was just wrong. Ambient sound in the weather app is annoying, a user wants the weather - not birdsongs. Again, there are better individual apps.

The magnifier did NOT work, it did not recognize a one dollar bill and seemed very slow.

Lot of crashes. Even the magnifier is not working. What a joke of app.
