It is a cross-reference from key English words in the Authorized King James Bible Version to the original words in the Greek texts of the New Testament. In his preface to the book, Vine wrote,
- "The present volumes are produced especially for the help of those who do not study Greek, though it is hoped that those who are familiar with the original will find them useful."
Vine did not write an equivalent work for Old Testament Hebrew words; however, Vine's work is sometimes combined with another author's Hebrew dictionary and marketed under Vine's name as a "complete" expository dictionary.
It provides a concise meaning of the original Greek word, often providing Bible verse references as examples. If there are several Greek words that may translate to the same English word, Vine's distinguishes the shadings of meaning and connotation that may be lost in the English translation. For example, there are a number of Greek words that may be translated by the English word love.
Vine's also provides the definition of a word (as used in the King James Version) more accurately than an English dictionary, because it expands the Greek use of the word. For example, the word, "godliness" in 1 Tim. 2:2 is defined in the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary as "1: Divine 2: pious, devout -", but in Vines, it is defined as " 'to be devout,' denotes that piety which is characterized by a Godward attitude, does that which is well-pleasing to Him." So we have a fuller meaning of the word by seeing how the word is used in the NT.

- I made this dictionary with KJV Bible verses (because it's more popular), but if you want use it with ASV version please let me know. Also I would like to make clickable Strong Numbers (like Bible verses)
- when clicked would open the description and other information about the Strong Number. But I do not know how much you need it. I would be happy to improve this app together!

Peace. Back in mid 1980's Vines Expository was required at The Way biblical University. I was taught how to use it studying the Holy Scriptures with ancient Greek and Hebrew word. Allowing great progress in just being able to read the Holy Scriptures. Back then no cell phone or computers existed. So today the app is beyond what is imaginable back then for me. On the go. Thinking of scripture. Want to know how a word is utilized through the scriptures, walla, in moments now done. Thank You
Love the concept. However having a button to pull down old and new testament, which should brings up the different books then the chapters would be great. For those of us that use the bible a lot, for church, in teaching, & in cricess. Don't have time . We need that info now. I will be uninstalling this app.
Compared to my other more popular Bible app I've been using for years, i didn't find this very helpful, considering mine doesn't have ads from the get-go, let alone the fact that not all Bible words are in this dictionary app. Many words i wanted to look up just aren't in this. They give about 15 or 20 words in each letter but it is not exhaustive enough. The Bible pages are pretty but i also don't like that i can't click an arrow to get to the next chapter.
Vine's Expository Dictionary is outstanding in two specific ways. It offers a great narrative with each topic listed, and it lists and explains the different Greek and Hebrew usages of each term. Geared to both a layperson like myself and others interested in some deeper study. Very good overall.
This app is great it has the Bible the vines on it and slot of extra on it day and night settings for you ,reading plan, bookmark plus highlighter! There is probably more that I am forgetting. I recommend this definitely 💯!! This is so great as you can use them together or separately 😊🌞.
I like the many related Greek words given when searching an English word, such as wickedness. However, some English words are not available, such as immoral. The quick hyperlink to the Bible verses given as examples is nice too, and super easy to get back to the dictonary. The application is easy to use. Its a very nice application. It should specify which translation is being used.
I have only recently started using the Vines dictionary, and so far it has been a valued assistance in my studies of God's word. To be able to have a full definition of a word in its true meaning brings such clarity. This is awesome! One suggestion if I may make. It would be nice to be able to audible here the word in its original form. Thank you
The Strong's Exhaust Concordance gives you the KJV of the English words in the Bible from A-Z with the general accurate translation for each word. The Vines is more focused on the definition of the word or words, gives a great easy to read commentary, of the English word found in the Bible. And each word section, that is studied in the Bible is looked up in alphabetical order, covering every definition and the meaning of that particular word every time that English word is used in the Bible.
It does not contain all of vines. I looked up the word race. Did Gabe reference at the end of the definition to look up conflict. Conflict was not listed, but I pulled my vines off the shelf and it has conflict listed. So there for the first time I really sat down to look at a word definition and you don't have the different references tgat Vines gives. Therefore if that's the first word that I looked up and it is incomplete oh, it makes me wonder how much of your app is incomplete.
This Vine's Expository is Exactally what I've been looking for to use with my Bible studying. It is easy to use, beautifully laid out, and exciting to find the true meanings of bibical words from the Hebrew and Greek, And for it to be free.. That's also a great blessing☺ I want to give a shout out to the creators of this app, Thank you, I've always loved to study, Especially the Bible, and stumbling upon this app was a real dream come true, and has me so excited to get back into my Bible studies

I use the book, Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words, and this app is helpful when somewhere that I don't have that book to hand. It's very helpful to understand the original Greek word used in Scripture and can help with greater understanding. Psalm 119:9-16.

Vine's Dictionary is a very excellent study tool for finding the truth of words not translated or articulated correctly in most versions of the Bible. Therefore this app is most helpful & easy to use! Thanks to the publishers!
This Vines dictionary also has the Bible and it is very easy to use and understand and I like the feature where you can highlight it or have it read it to you it's a wonderful book I went through lot of Bibles and this one I prefer most of all plus it has a dictionary it's awesome and I do recommend that everyone that gets the strongs commentary also that is excellent
This is such a great asset to Bible study it helps deepen your understanding and helps breakdown scripture. If you think a word has a particular or has same meaning. Think again Vines has the correct usage scripture and verse.
Easy to use, a lot of detail in definitions, good for etimology of words, excellent for study!
Looking at the word definition is confusing. Unaware of the guide to find the accurate meaning of a particular word. This is due to only using the app twice to look up word meaning. Practice using the app may increase my understanding of best practice using the vines dictionary to identify the word meaning.
This study aide has been a valuable tool ,a great way to better understand Bible words that I was not previously familiar with. It is a great app for people wanting to develop a deeper comprehension of God's word.
doesnt allow seeing the word in verse then to vines. you have to search the word first, then it shows you what verses theyre in. backwards from other study tools. it should be verse first, then look up a word from the verse to show it in context. 1 step too many. useful? yes but not streamlined.
I want to thank you very much for Vine's Dictionary, it is very useful Tool for every Pastor or Teachers of the Bible. I could like to see more Apps for the Pastors or Teachers of the Bible or Students of the Bible in Third World Countries. I also want you to send me more Materials in Leaders Studies.
Doeth everything but last versions scripture search experience was better. Apart, very great application.
It's that go to app of a word by word of ancient language translated into English is needed to give clear guidance of what is meant in context.

The dictionary is something I can always rely on when I need an expanded idea of a word. In all VINES gives me a smooth experience.
I'm trying to do Bible study on my own , since I have been having trouble finding a church. I want so badly to understand the Word and become closer to my Savior Jesus! The vine's dictionary has been a useful tool. Which I'm grateful for.

This is one of my very favorite Biblical reference books of all times! It makes no difference which version or translation of the Word you prefer personally, all the Biblical student of any age needs to do is a little bit of English shuffling and imagination to locate their topic of interest. This is a fine literary tool!
