Took over an hour to download option one and if you open any other app or anything it starts over... I get highspeed internet... at first I thought it was their servers then I noticed that without using any internet it artificially slows itself down with loading its own filed that it has already downloaded...
What a great resource if I do not have a tree key with me which happens all the time. At first I thought the app was broken because once I got to the details of one spp I could not get back to the apps home screen. I finally realized if I just swipe to the left from the top of the screen it goes back. Now it all good.
I've been using this app as my go-to tree ID tool for about 5 years now and I absolutely love it! I've used it in the field, on casual strolls, and even hanging out with friends. I live in the northeastern US and have found this app to cover nearly all of the native and naturalized species found throughout New England. So don't let the "Virginia Tech" affiliation turn you away from giving this app a try if you're not actually *in* Virginia. ☺️🍁🍃🍂🌿
A bit cumbersome to use. If you're trying to id a tree, and don't get the final key choice right, you have to go back to the beginning every time. I finally uninstalled it when it couldn't find any species that fit my description
Prior version was fantastic, unfortunately it doesn't work anymore on my Samsung galaxy s8 after update in mid 2019. If it works on your phone, it contains a wealth of information.
Definitely should add a way to just favorite certain species because this is the most updated app and I've been using it for my dendrology class, but it is a pain to scroll through all the ones I'm not studying for.
Love the info sheets available with each account. Need to experiment more with the key questions. Would like a way to add field notes and my own pictures.
I was looking for a book that would help me identify trees. Unfortunately, most of the books use illustrations to identify the trees. Not a great option. This app is a significant improvement.
I tried to down load option 2. it locked down at 29% 3 times. I deleted the app and reloaded it and loaded option 3. it loaded then I loaded through the opened app down load local trees for zip code. it loaded and the app works with out internet. thanks for this app I plan to use ti on my trips around the area.
App was very glitchy and would refresh when trying to scroll and when the app was loading when you roatate the phone it would start over.
unfortunately the app was not successful in providing me possibilities for trees and shrubs i was trying to id. not one of several were identified with this app. try again.
Excellent app. Did exactly what I needed to identify the weird smelling tree near my house. Now I just use it out of curiosity to figure out different trees lol
This is a wonderful app with a huge amount of information, so of course it requires a lot of storage. It's worth it, but make sure you have a fast connection for download.
Can not get past the download screen. I do not want to download the files to use offline but there is no option to skip that
Awesome..couldn't find the pic on the app so I sent a email with an attached picture and received a response in 5 minutes answering my question!!!
app crashes everytime i try to download what it needs. I'm on a new brand name phone also.
It is cumbersome and slow. It would be easier and faster to use a tree ID book.
App can not identify the cedar, hemlocks, oaks & pines in Pennsylvania. Keeps telling me to start my search again from the beginning.
Awesome app from an awesome professor. Works great and has so many trees.
Fantastic app! So much great information. Thank you to those who developed this!!
great guide, great key to that helps with species identification in unfamiliar areas
Just keeps downloading over and over again. Havent been able to use the app
crashes when app is opened. trash in its current state
Excellent ID of local species, fast and accurate
Does not work. Do not update previous version which was great.
Doesnt seem to work in the seattle area, has 0 trees available after downloading data.
I have *really* liked this app and have used it for years. I'd give 9 starts out of 5, except: 1) you can't zoom in on the photos--they're good but you can't access any detail (earlier versions, at least for iPhone, permitted this); and 2) I hate that they've made the photos the default view--this app is about information, not about pretty pictures. The current system is clunky and really gets in the way of the information.
