GARBAGE! Can't connect the camera to my phone although they are connected via Wifi, says "Go to system preferences connect to camera wifi and try again". I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, used different phones (Galaxy S10+ and Note 9), erased and reconnected to the camera wifi and keep getting that error. FIX IT!
Used with Galaxy S7 & Zenfone AR both on Nougat. App needs much work. Camera quality is not good. App frequently crashes or freezes and camera has to be reset. Camera does not work without app. Even at $60 usd it's very disappointing. Bluetooth connectivity to mobile device would be a much better option. Has potential but needs a lot of work. At this point Vivitar is a company I will avoid in the future. :(
Possibly one of the worst apps I've downloaded. It keeps shutting off while I'm downloading videos. 16mb size. And I think its more ridiculous that the company hasn't responded to the reviews on here for the past 3 weeks to support their product.
Doesn't work at all. Constant error that it can't connect and tells you to go connect to the camera in your phone settings. Did that. Now, same error. Totally useless in this condition.
Connecting to camera was easy, taking a picture or video seems to start and stop fine, then it's useless, constantly freezing & crashing on my galaxy 9. Regretting I chose vivitar as my action cam.
Doesn't connect, like so many other people. The camera is connected - WiFi light constant, phone says connected and ip address obtained - yet without a hesitation the app says cannot connect. Unacceptable.
Cant connect dvr 794hd to samsung s9+ followed all the instructions and help guide several times, dont get asked for a password it just says that i need to connect to the device wifi (which i ensured i was already) actioncamxxxxx or whatever its a shame because the old app although buggy was ok to use on my s7 edge and before that on my note 4 too. Might be time to buy a go pro
Terrible purchase. Camera wont connect to wifi, wifi wont connect to app, app is completely different than instruction manual, cant even download app from QR code in manual, and i really wish i have done my research before buying this cheap P.O.S.
Handy for framing & controling an action cam that is out of reach or view. For example sitting above your head on a bike helmet or located on a remote tripod at an event. One thing that would be useful for the future would be the ability to join the camera to an existing WiFi network and use the app on a device on that network.
So this app does not see the connection to camera via wifi, even when the phone is connected. To add insult to injury you cannot reach the help or about page(s) without being connected to a wifi connection with internet. So if you are connected to the camera you cannot get to help, of you are out with your camera you cannot get help, etc - you get the picture (or in this case you can't).
The app will not connect to the camera. The web site the "user manual" link in the app doesn't open either. As someone else mentioned get the GoAction app. Yes, it's a cheap camera but it's not worth the cost.
showing error message "couldn't connect to camera, please check your wifi connection or restart camera". previously it was working fine but now showing this message whenever i try to connect to action camera. i am using vivitar action camera(DVR 917HD) please help!!

ONCE YOU HAVE CONNECTED TO YOUR CAMERAS WIFI, OPEN APP AND CONNECT APP TO CAMERA. ONCE THAT IS DONE YOU HAVE FULL CONTROL OF SETTINGS INCLUDING WIFI NAME AND PASSWORD!!!!!!!
One star, because I can't give it 0. App is useless. Camera and phone won't connect. Don't want your time downloading this.
This is garbage do NOT download just look at the permissions it wants there absolutely bogus why would it need to have my contacts or be able to download files without notification it doesn't even work anyway do not download
Followed all steps, not connected. It is connected to WiFi but ap won't detec the camera. Trash..
App will freeze every 2 seconds how can you still sell the camera in store and have an app that doesn't work? Returning the camera shoulda bought a gopro
Can't open the app after downloading it. Think Vivitar 917 HD is junk. Wasted money!!! Nothing in instructions works.
Needs a major update. It keeps saying that the app has stopped! How about yall do something and fix it!
would never connect to the camera. wifi from phone to camera was good. software is junk.
so far i haven't been able to connect my phone to my camera. the sticker on the cam SSID is not the same as the one on my phone WiFi

soy Tania Guerra y esta Camara no functiona bien, doesn't work is trash money, not cuality view. waterproof case doesn't work good, and costumer service don't answer.
App does not connect to my Vivitar Action Camera even though I am connected to it via WiFi.
At first I could not believe the overwhelming number of comments indicating that this app would not even connect to the camera. I am now on my third unit with the exact same results. After having established a connection to the camera's wifi network the app would still not, for whatever reason, even recognize the connection. I don't understand how any company could release a product so underdeveloped. This is the kind of thing that destroys confidence in a brand, Vivitar.
