VN operates through Android's Accessibility service and must be enabled in the Accessibility settings.Shortcuts are provided in the configuration screen to open the Accessibility and TTS settings.While VN uses the Accessibility service, it is intended to be a convenience tool and not an accessibility tool.
The Accessibility service will give a warning that VN may be able to collect personal data. This is because Accessibility doesn't know what or how data passing through it is used by enabled apps. VN only uses Accessibility to read notification text which is passed directly to TTS and temporary memory (for the notification log). The TTS engine, outside the control of VN, may also use spoken text for other purposes.
CAUTION:Be aware of the accessibility apps that are enabled when you enable VN! If the behavior of system UI changes, it is most likely caused by other accessibility apps that were enabled when VN/Accessibility was turned on. If you believe this is not the case and VN is causing issues for you, please contact me.
ABOUT AUDIO STREAM OPTION:Behavior of audio streams may vary by device or Android version, so I advise doing your own testing to determine which stream is right for you. The Media stream (default) should be good for most people.

So far I've liked this app for it application. Seems to me that WhatsApp had a few notification besides indicating someone had sent a message and I couldn't get Voice-Notify to stop speaking them. After putting tags in the Ignore-Text function, Voice-Notify still speaks "Whatsapp Whatsapp". Any suggestion?
Lots of options, but it wouldn't read notifications from Google Calendar. I enabled the notifications for the calendar.
i am largely a new user with android devices...i have found this app useful to keep me informed about what is running and what my device is doing ..just to add i would really like to find out how to get a nicer voice for the app than the standard android default
the best voice notification app on play store, though I do wish the voice is a bit more attractive.

It's pretty good, but it could be better. The app doesn't give the option to customize what the notifications on each app says, though.
I loved this application until recently update! Messages are not being read as they were on bluetooth headset wich is the reason I downloaded the application. Will change review when it works as before.
Awesome. Stopped working After a tmobile update, but I just uninstalled and reinstalled. Works as good as before!
It's all of a sudden talking too much. Like telling me facebook is running. It's always been running. So why the notifications now? Then it says tap for more info, and there's nothing to tap. DELETED
Seems to work better than some of its competitors. But would like to work out how to switch it on and off as it seems to stay running constantly in background with no obvious way to disable

You took a brilliantly easy to use application and turned it into a pile of complicated junk. I can't get it to do what the old app did effortlessly. Way too complicated now. I want the old version back!!
doesnt works on Huawei mate 10 pro while screen locked. Doesn't even works on Samsung galaxy s9+, notification log says silence by shake...
Yes, it works now! Thanks! I tried the #a:#t and it doesn't work for me. It stopped completely. Did I get it wrong? I love this app! I dislike Toast.

This app is perfect for when you don't want to be looking at your screen all the time. It's just missing one thing, which is the ability to read expandable notifications. I can no longer have it read who my new tweets are from, just that they exist (they show as blank). Add that & it's 5 stars.
It does exactly what it claims, but my only problem is that there's no way to separate bluetooth from headset detection. I want it to speak my notifications while I'm driving (connected to a bluetooth stereo) but not while I'm sitting at my desk with a headset plugged in. Other than that, it works! The interface isn't exactly friendly, but you can figure it out with some trial and error.
... Especially how you can set it up to speak only when you have your ear buds in, use it with so many different services. Would however like the ability to select specific email folders or labels as exceptions, eg only notify with job offers and emails from my wife, never notify with politics.
Aside from that this app fails to read the entire contents of the message whether that's the stock messaging app or third party like Telegram for example only a few lines are read. Are our credit cards really safe turning this on? Please fix it so the entire text message reads out loud not just the first few words. LG G3 stick ROM 5.1.1.
but especially useful for someone such as myself who has dexterity difficulties, also has a SCI & is a fulltime wheelchair user. I do not have to look at my phone to know what is happening. VN is very customisable, eg, you can stop some FB group messages by putting the group name or a word in the 'ignored text' option in VN settings. Wish 'Email' said who was sending the emails like 'Gmail' does. Unfortunately on my new Note4, VN keeps being 'disabled'!?! Such a pain for an essential app! 😞
works well when it works. stops working every time I perform a memory boost. have to either reboot or toggle off the app in accessibility then on again to make it work, very annoying. I find no other of my background apps stop working after a memory boost.
I use it when I'm in my car to get notifications spoken and it works great for such. However it would be awesome if it could be linked to bluetooth. This is because I'm sloppy, and regularly forget to either switch on or off. The widget is however already a good begin
It's a brilliant app. It has lots of customisation settings and has worked as expected for me. For instance, I've successfully set the app to ignore messages from certain WhatsApp group chats. I've used this app with a Galaxy S6, Pixel 2XL, Z2 Plus and Oneplus 6t. I've only used the app for Bluetooth purposes in two cars for handsfree alerts. It's worked dependably well in all situations. The only issue I have is that I cannot find a way (if there is a way) to stop the app reading the numbers of people who I already have in my contacts book. Other apps of this type have this function.
