Area code filtering works, but could not get Group filtering to work. The issue is that I have mulitple Google accounts on my phone. If I create a group for a contact, Google ends up creating multiple copies of that group, once for the phone and once under each Google account. When trying to select a group in this app I see multiple instances of the group and I could not get it to choose the right one.
Finally a way to set Dial Out prefs for Google Voice (so awesome!) but the way the way it does so is tricky (using contact groups & area code filters). Because the UI is unclear on how things work it makes it difficult. However, with some mental work & the instructions (also confusing) it is worth: no longer having the prompt on outbound dialing (tho the prompt is a missing feature when dialing non-contact #s)
I installed this on my Nexus 5 with Lollipop. Setup is simple enough. Added a GV group with contacts I wanted only to see my GV number. When I tested it on a friends phone, a pop up says "Using Google Voice", cool! But on his phone, it shows my mobile number. If I set GV to use GV for all calls instead, he sees my GV number. This app doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
Was trying to setup multiple profiles on TBacUp to no avail but after searching on the subject came across this app and another similar one mentioned in the comments section. Try both of em and the other app, name not worth mentioning, was no where close to this app. Remember to get the 2.0 version.
Only supports devices with hard menu keys or default onscreen menu keys. Devices such as the S7 and S7 Edge (2 of the most popular phones on the planet) are not supported. Working around this through accessibility settings is a pain and breaks other, more important functionality. Too bad, I liked the app on my Note 4. Would be happy to use it if the dev added on screen navigation to the app.
As others have stated the UI is a little dated and it takes a bit of logic to understand the settings. It's like this: If you want to use GV for most of your calls then uncheck Main Number is Default and set up a group in GMail called No Googe Voice (or something) and select that as Main Group Name. Then add all contacts you don't want to use GV for to that group. On the other hand: If you want to use GV for only a few contacts then select Main Number is Default and set up a group called Google Voice and select that as GV Group Name. Then add your contacts to that group.
Area codes wrap around on the nexus 5. A good addition would be to automatically detect additional dial tones after the main number which Google voice does not handle correctly (voice menus etc) and direct them to main number
I was excited to find this app to help me automate how I make outbound calls from my phone (whether through the cell number of google voice). It does what is is supposed to do very well, but there is a fatal flaw: You have to set the default in Google Voice as make all calls through GV. This is fine to a point, but what about when I don't want to make a call with GV but the person is not in my contacts? Make it so this app will prompt you about which to use (phone vs. GV) when the contact number is NOT in either group, and the app will be useful. Otherwise, too many calls I make out end up dialing the wrong way.
Works well. Sometimes I encounter a strange behavior where the phone uses Google Voice to call someone who is not designated (by group or area code) to be called via Google Voice, but I'm not sure why that is. Other than that, the app works really well. Thank you for writing it and making it available for FREE!
This used to be a great app and I loved the way it worked, but now I can't get the Dial by Groups feature to work properly. I don't use the Area Codes feature at all. I have V+2.0 set to dial from gVoice by default, and I have a group set for the "GV Group Name" and another group set for "Main Group Name", but no matter what I try, it *always* dials out with my regular cell number now. I'd love to work with the developer to get it fixed because I think the app was perfect before, but I can't find any contact information anywhere.
For a long time I have been carrying around 2 phones, work and personal, until I decided to save myself some money and combine the two. I ported my number to Google Voice and had it paired with my company phone. The biggest problem was having to select which number to use when making an outbound call. I was consistently screwing it up until I downloaded this app. This app is amazing and does the job right, it's free, and asks for MINIMAL permissions!
Update : reinstalled it and left the dial by area code checked and it works properly. Not sure why but that's def a bug. Tried this app and it won't route calls through Google voice number. My gv app is set to route all calls through gv number and this app still defaults to my main line even though the settings are correct. Quite useless if it doesn't let me route the call like I want.
I also tried to use the Dial by Groups to use Gvoice as the default but it doesn't work and always dials using the regular number.
You can only select ONE group for using your GV number and ONE group for using your phone's number. That's retarded -_-
This solved almost all my issues but my one issue is that I only can set one contact group. If you could set it to allow multiple groups this would be the perfect app for me.
Took me a bit of searching around the Web but finally found the app I need. Thanks for making this available.
Stopped working. Suddenly uses my main number and people I'm calling are very confused
Was great until GV got updated a few months ago. No longer works at all (at least on Marshmallow)
The was the best app...until it stoppe working a few days ago. It did exactly what you wanted it to do,...until it stopped working a few days ago. I'm hoping it gets an update and starts working again, because it was the only app that even came close to doing all the things you want to do with Googke Voice phone number...until it stopped working a few days ago.
This application does not work. When I open it, all I see is a blank screen. I am unable to add any numbers to it and I don't see instructions on how to do it.
Does what it says. Would like it to determine based on what account the contact is in rather than by group but it works for me as is. Thanks again!
Contacted the developer and have not received a response. I've been a long time user and do not appreciate the disregard. Use at your OWN RISK‼️
Doesn't seem to actually work. I set up a group to dial using my main number, but it still calls them using GV
One of those few apps that just does exactly what I wanted - nothing more, nothing less. Would have happily paid $2 for it.
It just says no area codes in this list and isn't doing anything at all
On my Note 4 in Lollipop, there is no menu button. Since the note 4 doesn't have a hardware menu button, the app is unusable.
Set up a Google voice group and main number group in Google contacts, added the appropriate contacts to each group, and now I can just call and it automatically uses the correct number to dial with! EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!
Latest Google voice update broke this. Calls with my gv number all the time.
Was a cool app. Stopped working after Google Voice update.
A little confusing at first, but works as intended and does what i need. If you don't have a menu button, go to your phone settings and look for accessibility options. There should be one to put on-screen buttons including the missing menu one (3 vertical dots). Open the app, press the menu button, and you're good to go!
