I like the app, but recently have been expierencing push issues. Often not notified of new messages. This usually happens if my phone has been disconnected from wifi/data - on reconnect no notifcation will come. (they used to but not now). This is futher complicated by the fact that sycronization interval also no longer works. I turned it on for every 15 minutes to see if it would help alleviate the push issues - but no difference. It will not sychronize regardless of whether on not the interval is set. Hopefully this will be corrected. i am on the latest version as of Feb 21, 2022. PS: I also unintalled and reinstalled/cleared cache etc. - no difference.
This app is far more reliable than groundwire. Groundwire has a 98% delivery rate but obviously thats unacceptable as missing just one text could be a major problem. I seem to have 100% delivery rate with this app! Rated 4 stars simply because there's no MMS ability. I will bump it to 5 stars if that ever gets added.
Works pretty well, but with a big caveat: It's not possible to receive emojis at all. You can send them, but if someone tries to send you a message with emojis, they get stripped out. If someone sends you a message with ONLY emojis, they get an error telling them the message was undeliverable!
I love this app, it looks great and it's free. The only issue I have is when multiple messages come through at once (split because over character length) they don't show up in the right order (which can be a little confusing). <<>> - I did notice when they are all received at in the message details the ID is correct in ascending order, but the app always has them in reverse. Sorting by this number if the timestamp was the same could potentially work if it's available to you.
Overall, this app is fantastic. Although I do have a minor annoyance. I use 3 numbers, but use one of them way more than the others. I can't figure out how to change the order of appearance for those numbers. My primary # is second on the list, so I have to select it each new text message. If I could change the order, I would place it at the top. Alternatively, having the option to turn off the number select altogether, and have it use whatever number the "tab" you're on is would be amazing.
The only usable app for VoIP messaging. GS Wave & Port SIP had terrible UIs and failed to consistently deliver messages and also did not show contact names, unlike this app. My only issue with this app is not being able to import old messages from the native android messenger. Please add that feature and it would be perfect. Also if there is anyway to donate to you for your hard work, I would love to do so, thank you Michael.
First, I must say I really like this app. The problem that I indicate has only started in the last while. My phone no longer receives incoming SMS messages when the are sent to the phone. Let me clarify, unless I specifically have the app open in the forefront, I see nothing… Does not download them in the background even with 5-minute synchronization… strange… Updated to the latest version and still nothing....
Fabulous app but needs some customization. I'm used to Textra which is the king of customization. One major thing I'd like to see added is the ability to (selectively per contact) prevent the name and/or message content from being part of the notification. This is just a great app for use for voip.ms and eons better than any soft phone app's integrated messenger. I'd happily pay a few bucks to help you fund the growth of this app or help inspire a premium version with more features. Thanks!
Easy to use, perfect. I wish there was a clean and easy app for voice calls. Michael? :)
Previously, I couldn't get the Voip.ms API to work together with the App but texting is now working excellent, it was probably more of a Voip.ms problem. Just wondering about using the phone, telephone function as it keeps bringing up cell service requirements. Is there a different way of setting the App to use a Wifi internet connection to make telephone calls? Otherwise, texting is working well at this time and hopefully Wifi internet connection will soon work too. Greatly appreciate further details on the above and thank you very much for all the great work with sharing this App and more! All the best, David
Great interface, no more missed texts! (Zoiper had been brutal for only sending through SOME received texts) Who do you use for a softphone to make/receive calls? I'll need to replace Zoiper now to avoid double notifications of SMS. Edit: Some outgoing messages get stuck with "sending" under them, but never send. Any tips? 2nd Edit: after testing, messages get "stuck" sending if you leave/close the chat window before the message has fully sent. Solution: don't close chat until message is sent.
This app was the deciding factor on whether I would switch to VoIP.ms or not. I can use this with a data-only plan and have nearly the same experience I would texting through a carrier. There are some quirks because of VoIP.ms limitations, like how large messages are split up and out of order, but they're manageable. Edit: removed feature request because I just saw on your GitHub page that VoIP.ms is working on MMS. Exciting stuff!
Much more reliable then zoiper . I have 2 requests. First : When I send a message, if I minimize the app before the app has finalized sending the message. The message will never send and just say sending forever, or it will fail but still won't be able to send when you hit retry. Is this something that can be fixed? Second: Now that MMS is working and in the API docs has commands to send and receive them. Would you be able to intragrate this into the app?
Just installed this app to replace Zoiper's SMS. Looks to be much more reliable. Right now Zoiper is getting "registration failed", likely due to DDoS, but this app is working great. The best feature here is that you can set a start date so that it will populate the message database with some old messages so you don't feel you're starting with a clean slate. Unless there's a problem, this will now be my default SMS app.
Pretty nice, seems to work well! Only issue is that my SMS are coming out of order... I'll send a message, then the reply will come above it, and then my text below my first... seems inconsistent as well. But, it works! So that's a pretty big plus.
clean simple no fault alternative sms to cell-phones from - your choice of tablet or other non cell ( or cell) android device with potential advantages of blue tooth keyboard for faster typing, plus privacy element of 2nd non cell msngr, plus $$ savings vs. some data plans. push feature a hugeb plus!
All good! Messages still come in out of order though. Have to jump back and forth between long messages. Oh and I know you can't send or receive images with this but could you somehow indicate that someone tried to send one to you?
Excellent SMS app and easy to get started. Outgoing messages seems to be a bit delayed, but incoming is pretty much instant. Need a phone version of this...
great app allowing almost instand sms through Voip.ms. i just hope there is a material design redesign comig soon because the app is looking kind of dull. Great job. I would be willing to pay gor a pro version with more customization !
App is OK for sms but some received messages are missed even though they are shown on the voip.ms message center. Doing a sync or sending a new message to that person does not bring the missing one up, it's like the message never existed. MMS are totally ignored and you'd never know you received one. Still searching for a winning app for sms and mms for voip.ms. May end up porting out of the service entirely. Edit: This is actually a voip.ms limitation. App rating updated.
After a 4 year absence, was just looking into porting out my GV number to Voip.ms, and noticed Michael is still supporting and updating this app. Kudos my man, I remember it being a great app back in 2017.
Probably the best app to use with voip.ms SMS! My only grief is mainly caused by the 160 character limit set by voip.ms but can be (slightly) mitigated with this app. When my message gets chopped up into separate SMS messages, the order they are sent is sometimes wrong. Is this something this app could fix by having a time delay between "chopped" messages? Also - a secondary feature that would be nice is that it does not "chop" a word in the middle, but rather go back to the last "space" so that the messages are easier to read. Those two features would turn this into a 5 start perfect app in my opinion!
