Submitted an address change, but never received the confirmation email in any email folder. Had to keep checking the DCBOE website to finally see that the change was completed. Would be better if 1) the confirmation system worked, & 2) an automated email was sent telling you the change was made. But I'm very grateful I could do this with an app: don't have a printer to complete online, & it's safer than in person, the 3rd option.
Horrible. This thing won't let you select "United States" as the country for your mailing address. First it changes it to the United Kingdom, then if you try to change it, the app crashes. You have to select United States outlying islands, then it glitches to make it say United States instead. Update: The election is already over and I never got my absentee ballot sent to me, so this app actually doesn't work at all and should be taken off the app store.
Absolute failure. Ironically, if you are deterred from your attempt by the illegible text and hostile UX many have noted, you may be one of the lucky ones — for me, after struggling through the forms (twice), the app reported that I'd successfully registered (also twice), but I was told my information was not on file upon trying to confirm. I am sincerely concerned that voters will end up entirely disenfranchised by the failures in this app, which is beyond unacceptable.
The black text is very difficult to read on Android, plus I haven't received a PDF yet despite the app saying I would. Edit: Got the absentee ballot but still no PDF sent to my email despite checking the spam folder. Also there's no way to see my previous request through the app. Rating remains 3 stars.
I dowloaded the app, filled out the application for an absentee ballot (two working days ago), and it worked fine -- but I never received email confirmation, as was promised, as I recall. But now, I just read on the app website that I may NOT get an email confirmation! So, I'm a bit confused. I guess I just need to assume that I will get my ballot in the mail.
I attempted to use this and DC's website a number of times and the app finally worked. I guess it's better than nothing but only marginally. Certainly easier if you have a printer to print out and mail in the form. Whoever made this app is bad at their job and should feel bad.
The country drop-down list for mailing address doesnt work properly. When you select a country and then move to the next screen it lists the country above the one that you selected on the next page. Ex. You pick Germany but on the next screen it will say Georgia.
Several comments have noted that the contrast is very poor on dark-mode. Either the developers have overcorrected, or the same problem exists on light mode: form labels to request an absentee ballot were all in an almost unreadably light grey on white background. Frankly I have no idea why a third-party app like this is even necessary, given that DC Government has a functioning website, but I suppose that's a separate issue.
Helpful, but flawed. It's not compatible with dark mode, resulting in black text on a dark gray background. Additionally, the form completion is somewhat janky.
The birthdate issue apparently goes back to 2016, and you still haven't resolved it? Why were there people on TV pushing this app today as the best way to request a mail-in ballot when I can't do that from an android because I can't enter my birthdate? UPDATE FOR ANYONE TRYING TO ENTER THEIR BIRTHDATE ON AN ANDROID: You can enter it with slashes (mm/dd/yyyy) in one of the email fields and then cut and paste it into the Birthdate field.
I was surprised how useful this app is. I needed to request an absentee ballot, and instead of printing a paper form and signing it, I was able to fill the information out on my phone and sign with my finger. I wish other government services worked like this.
Had issue with birth date, but I found work around. Don'tunderstand how app was released with such a major flaw. However, developer very responsive when contacted, and also updated me when app fixed. I will now share with others.
I get a "Server or Net Work error" when I open the app, no matter if my internet is connected. Tried to restart phone and app with no luck. Totally unusable.
App doesn't display when dark theme is selected. Text is almost unreadable. Have to switch into light mode to use it.
The problem with the birthdate was resolved. The app now works great to request an absentee ballad. Thanks for the feedback.
Checked my registration on the dc boe website, everything's fine. Checked in this app, I'm allegedly not registered. The app asks for more, different information than the website. Dont trust this app.
I can't input any addresses into any fields. Also the writing shows up as dark on a dark background. Design is bad.
Hasn't worked after trying for weeks. It always lists a network error, even after fresh reinstall.
Very easy to use, seamless. Glad this is an option instead of mailing form or filling a .pdf
have submitted 2 absentee ballot request thru the vote 4 dc app and was informed we would be receiving pdf versions thru our email accounts. Have not received either so I assume this application does not work
The app does not accept my birthday. I've tried a few different formats and keep getting an error.
Data not found; I'm definitely in the system as I got an email informing me about the app
It's alright. But some places were hard to read.
Quickly received my absentee ballot I requested through the app.
Perfect. Updated my address and party at once without having to mail anything.
Love the phone call reminder and walkthrough by staff to complete my request for absentee ballot
Glitch in the mailing address form insists on putting the "United Kingdom" as the country regardless of what country I select. (Also, my partner trying to use the iOS app found that all of the menu options are solid black and unreadable. Literally all of them.) Conclusion: Don't use this app - it's a waste of time on a broken product. Just go through the website.
