I really liked this app. Did what it said it was going to do. All without bombarding me with ads. I liked the verbal cues of telling me of Every mile I walked and how fast I was walking/running. It was a fun little challenge to beat my logged walk of the previous day. Lost 30 lbs. It was really nice to enjoy the free features the app provided. All without a constant trying to sell me something. Letting me get into the groove of my workout. I plan on buy a full version if there is one.
It does what it's supposed to, and does it more accurately than most other apps I've tried. I only wish there was a setting to automatically stop counting if I stop walking for a while. I've been doing long walks with stops for coffee and I forget to switch it off when I take a half hour break. That's my own fault but it'd be good if it could detect that you've stopped for ages of let you cut out some time at the end to get a more accurate pace, or even just an audio notification when you stop.
Very good for a free app. Appears to be exactly the same app as Map My Fitness, which I have also, but with different front branding. Walks in one app simultaneously log in the other and vice-versa. Not sure how accurate it is as my wife has the same apps. We can start to log a walk simultaneously and end up with different distances recorded. But good as a general indication of distance and time.
This is a perfectly adequate app for the average walker/jogger. It records your route with reasonable accuracy, but there are glitches. I find that it often shows my activity as finishing sooner that it actually did, occasionally losing as much as the last half a mile. That's fine for me, but if you are seriously training and wanting to improve your times, it would be very frustrating, especially if you'd just done a PB!! Also, it records slightly different distances for exactly the same route.
I've been using the app for years and love seeing the progress across time. Sometimes it glitches and doesn't accurately read the walk, but it's been pretty consistent overall. It's also nice that my mom and I are synced as friends so we can keep each other accountable and provide encouragement since we live in different states. I like seeing the pictures she uploads on her walks too. This is a great app that does what is expected.
This is my first walk using Map My Walk. In fact it's the first time I've used any app to map a walk. It was easy to download install and start. I was walking through the woods, not on any path, so it was very helpful to see where I was going. Worked just as well as I expected. This is one year after my initial review. Still a great app. I use the free version, and I love it. It has all your split times per mile, elevation changes, your workout notes. I also use it bushwhacking through wetlands.
Lately, I can't log anything. When I open the app, it automatically gives me the 'save workout' option, but with no numbers or data. If I try to go back to the main page to start a workout, it will go to that page for 2 seconds before it goes back to the "save workout" page before I can click on "start workout". Lather, rinse, repeat. It will not let me escape the page. It has been a week, I have tried resetting my phone, to no avail, and at this point, I guess it's time to try a new app!
I like the total miles given and seeing the route, when I want a certain distance I just look at my routes and duplicate that walk and I know how much time to allow. I am diabetic so this is a helpful tool. My only negative so far is several times the app shuts down and I loose my full workout. It's not because of battery power. P. Lang
Used to love this app, however since late summer distance no longer records, but steps still did. Now steps aren't even recorded. Just the duration and (sometimes) the route/map. Update: this time unistalling and reinstalling worked! Route, distance, and steps seem to be accurate. Thank you!
Only a few negatives. It uses the displayed distance and time to calculate your rates, so you need to go beyond your stopping point and make sure the mileage updates to the next hundredth or your rate will be less than it should be. It also takes quite a while to get an accurate rate after you change speeds.
In 2022, I'm still using MapMyWalk. I love that it gives me regular updates on my current pace and the overall pace for the workout. My daughter uses the companion app MapMyRide for her bike rides and loves it. And that they sync automatically with MyFitnessPal. Great app. I can walk various different routes and it gives distance, time, calories, elevation, etc. Also love that I can set it to notify me every half mile (configurable) with details.
I've been using this app for over 5 years.i like that you don't need to sign you for anything of you don't want to, yet all major and necessary features seem to be present. It's been improved lately and I like the analysis and data points. Also you can add a picture for quick reference. All in all a stable easy to use app.
Today has been the first time that I've had issues with the app, and I've had the app over a year, or maybe around a year now. First problem was it starting saying "starting workout" every few minutes, then after a while did it said it again. Second problem it's not allowing me to share today's walking stats, to my social media like it has let me in the past many times before.
A good accurate App. One improvement would be if the app paused when you were doing static exercises. It has a pause button but you would have to remove your mobile from your holder, open the app, pause it, close your mobile, put it back in the holder and repeat it every time you stopped & started moving.
Seems to work good, although I have no other similar app to compare it with. But I expect to stick with this one. UPDATE: Have used this for over five years now and still like it. Use it walking, hiking, biking, and kayaking too (because it doesn't have a selection for kayaking, I usually choose hiking). I'm a basic user, but since it has a lot more features than I use, it's probably good for more advanced users too.
I use the free version every day, either walking the neighborhood or on an elliptical. I really enjoy the maps...and it's funny to see exactly how granular it is. The only thing I would change is that I would have it remind you if something has obviously changed. (I.e. sometimes I turn it on in the store but forget to turn it off when I get into the car. Obviously I'm not walking 40mph. Or I stop to talk to a neighbor and it keeps going. It tends to calculate calories based on time spent...)
