It can be a little unintuitive at times but once you get used to it it's great for theorycrafting army builds. It runs a little bit harsh, seems like it could have been optimized a little more. The way the game rules are updated its a bit of a must. If you play the game much at all just buy the whole set of army rules. But don't bother buying anything for Company of Iron, they already completely bailed on supporting that format.
App won't get past the initial loading screen. I'm currently unable to access the cards and my lists. Would be nice if I had the option to roll back to the last good working version of the app, even if I had to fight through the pop up telling me to upgrade. I'm shocked this got through testing (if it was tested) and was released. I'm even more shocked that they haven't reverted the update and went back to a previous working version while they sorted it out.
After the most recent update, the app refuses to load, it just hangs on Loading forever. This is on top of horrid performance even before this, constant bugs, slow fixes, awful pricing model, and the list goes on. I enjoyed Warmachine, but with all of the issues lately I suggest just finding the cards in their database and printing them off and then using either conflict chamber or some other third party list builder if you want to play.
The app works and provide a good on the go army builder and card reference. It could be more streamlined and the ultimate bundle price is a bit of a sticker l shock. It's great value but it would be nice if buying the armies individually allowed you to acquire the same status as the bundle since you did end up spending more in the long run. All in all if you play Warmachine the app is very helpful if you don't want to print the cards out.
The only reason I still use this app is that it's obligatory for anyone unable to print out the cards it replaces. The app is poorly optimized, doesn't contain plain-text core rules, and has fatal bugs that crop up with shocking frequency. The price of the cards would be reasonable if the app could be expected to perform with any level of consistency, but given its terrible design, the amount of money most player are expected to spend on this disaster app is laughable. Would give zero stars.
Yes you have to pay for bundles of digital cards, but has everything up to date. Sometimes updates break the app. My biggest concern is the pdf with the rules doesn't always send me to the right section to clarify the rules. Should just cover it to a text lookup. Doesn't need to be pdf.
I used to use this app on my iPhone 6 and it worked just fine but I remembered that it took a long time to load up the first time I opened the app. Now I have a Pixel 3 and just tried to redownload the app, I let it sit for over half an hour and it wouldn't load up, I wound up leaving the app open all night to make sure it was loading, still loading 9 hours later I even went and manually gave it all permissions before I went to bed. It still works on my iPad but for my Google review, it's bad.
Handy and mostly functional. If I had one MAJOR complaint it would be that the card interface links to a pdf for rules which can take forever to load. I'd just bring up a rule bubble or something no need to hotlink to a full color version of a 400pg rule book. May have slightly exagerated there but my point stands.
I used to just use the cards, but decided to jump in on the app. All was great until the recent update, which rendered it useless. I was hoping it would be fixed at this point, but at least PP has the card pdf database, so I'll be going back to cards until the app is fixed :)
Won't load, stuck on loading screen. I paid to unlock everything and the app doesn't even work. Clearly others also are having major issues. It's been a slow, crashing and buggy app. I regret paying to unlock everything now, should have just printed the cards.
Constant glitches. Updates often create new small problems which sometimes never get addressed. I still find it more convenient than using cards but it is messy, has lots of problema which seem very solvable, and seems to gain more bugs with every major update.
Definitely more convenient than bringing a stack of cards to the table. The ability to build any list you want is great for understanding your opponent's list. Altogether a great tool, especially now that it is working again
The app is a little confusing on cell phone until you get used to it and the IOS version on my Ipad crashes when I open the PDF. (this is the android store so it doesnt affect my 5 star rating) But I really appreciate having the tool. Its still easier than cards even with bugs :D
This app is amazing. I have an android galaxy s10. The only issues I've had is whenever I look up a rule it takes me to the wrong page everytime. The newest update (Feb 2020) has rendered the app useless I cant log in and it's been like this for days. Probably working on it but other than that it has made warmachine hordes more dynamic!
App is very bloated and does not run well but you are stuck with it if you want updated cards. In addition it lacks the basic funtionality of a zoom. I.e. You cannot zoom in on the cards. Sure it looks nice but being able to at least read the text would be nice on smaller screens
Tried to create a new account. Account already exists. Fine. Tried to log in with existing account. Bad password. Okay. Hit the forgot password button. Change the password on the website. Also fine. Try to log into the app. Still getting bad password error. Now I'm getting a bit frustrated. Try to change the password again on the website. Success. Still can't log into the app. Now I'm questioning if it is worth the frustration. Uninstall and reinstall. Still can't log in. Try to find support contact. Nothing on the website. Now I've just wasted forty minutes on this crappy app. I'm not happy. No customer service. Not even bad customer service, none at all. If this is what I can expect from this company, maybe this isn't the game for me.
Overall, a functional app. Using it is better than a bunch of cards sprawled across the table. With all of the updates, it is a little glitchy, but to fix it would be a complete rework.
As mentioned by another reviewer the app has not been working since the last update. Both me and my friend were stuck in the loading screens. We are running Google pixel 3 and an android tablet.
Ui is pretty good. Rules PDF is terrible. So.e features are unnecesary. Some common sense features, like the ability to share an army as text) were added late. Overall, works well enough.
App wont load after latest update. I already didnt like having to buy digital cards and use my phones limited battery to play the game. Wish they would just reprint the cards. Shouldn't have to pay for content that should be included with minis
App is very buggy. Am not able to use it to design lists in certain themes, nor does it always allow me to properly select free choices. Tonight, it has been force closing. -Pixel 3
As an Ex Press Ganger, I absolutely hate that I have to spend more money on a hobby that I have devoted time to build, paint, and learn just to pay more to play the game. Hands down the worst thing that Privateer Press has done was to make their fans pay more. Zero Stars if I could.
This app almost got 5 stars, but was dropped to 3.5/4 for a fundamental flaw. Firstly, this is an amazingly well made ap. It makes games play much easier. So as a game play assistant, its tops. The updates to the cards are nice, which is both a positive, and the reason for my only negative. Before this app, Warma/Hordes used faction decks of physical cards. This app existed in the form of War Room “1” back in MKII, the last incarnation of the rules. Knowing full well that they would be marketing this in MK3, the company still issued the release of the physical decks, which were almost immediately rendered out of date by inevitable updates to the rules. This expansion the updates are coming much more frequently, and thus with so many updates and changes the very concept of physical cards has been made obsolete. So the cards became a money trap, and this app became near mandatory. None of this would have been remotely relevant if there was ANY WAY to get the app decks for less than full price. This app NEEDS to allow people who purchased the physical decks to be able to enter the bar code/UPS code/whatever, and receive their digital equivalent decks. Will HAPPELY change to a 5
The app works and can't think of anything better to use other than physical cards. Lots of people are ready to jump on and give it 1 star after a single error. However this app has a purpose to play the game of warmachine/hordes and makes it a lot easier than other wargames.
Relatively simple for standard army creation. Recent oblivion themes could be made more intuitive rather than scrolling through 3 factions worth of options for selection.
With the most recent updatr it has been completely broken. Doesn't transition past load. Refresh phone, uninstall, reinstall, still the same. The considerable money spent on cards, plus the length of time this issue has been known, makes this utterly inexcusable. There is no reason, other than apathy, that a game-breaker like this has persisted, much less been allowed through quality control. This, combined with a profound lack of communication, results in a one star rating.
