(!!) NOTE: this application is free to download, but will only work for a limited amount of time before you will have to activate it through a small one-time in-app purchase fee (~3EUR). Besides giving you a chance to try the app before you buy it, this was also the only way (due to technical constraints of the Play Store) to be able to give away this app for free to all existing gStrings users with paid content.
The app measures sound pitch using your phone's microphone, letting you tune any musical instrument (violin, viola, violoncello, bass, guitar, ukulele, piano, even wind instruments to name a few that have been tested).
Features include:1. orchestra tuning (shifting/redefining tone frequencies, e.g. A440 > A443),2. different temperaments (pythagorean, bagpipe, etc.),3. custom user-defined temperaments,4. different note namings (English, Latin, Hindustani),4. a nonlinear scale,5. microphone sensitivity setup,6. pitch pipe.

Smart and pretty. I really must update my review. I would add more stars if I could. I discovered the reference tones as you approach the correct pitch. Outstanding. And from the name to the simple layout, this is much better than GStrings or any other tuner I have tried.
LG V20 - Good Tuner App. One of the few that honors the fact that you purchased it, not like most others.
I've used this app for over 6 years and it works just fine for acoustic guitars and ukuleles. I like it.
Some years ago this was the first app I paid for as it is the best looking tuner IMO and it is as accurate as it needs to be .
Precision tuning made easy. What a difference this has made to my enjoyment of the guitar.

One star becouse of one thing. I bought the app so later the same app is free to download, and the app that was free gStrings is now the one that can be purchased. Wasted my money. Edit: Without taking into consideration what is writen on top, it's a great application, for tuning anything. I'm very sorry about the first one star rating that I left but I relly din't know that i can use them both, and thank you for the reply. Kepp up the good work.
Bought this app, and ever few months it asks me to buy it again. And doesn't work for a while. Which I hate.
Doesn't pick up sound. Tried installing the newest version after reading some reviews that suggested doing that but no luck.
This app is amazing, and beautifully designed. I did pay for full version in app. Very worth the money, and highly recommend. Would buy again.
Wonderful app. I was in search of an app which provided good UI and an ad-free experience while I played my guitar. This app fulfilled my requirements.
I just paid for this app. It can't find the mic I guess. Can this be fixed? If not can I have my money refunded? EDIT: Installed the update and all works fine now. The fast response and fix is great. Thanks!
Waves app mic glitch is now fixed, as of 12/25/16! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 [Unable to initialize the device microphone, when app is opened. Permissions snafu. Awaiting a fix/response from developer.] Developer's next generation gStrings tuner app is also still available, and fully-functional. I use both, regularly.
Deficient only in my phone microphone's poor reading of lower octaves. Works impeccably with a contact mic!

gstring was less twitchy. I am going back to using that.
This app is a 6 day trial peiod, so you better tune before that.
Don't list as free if a day later the app refuses to open without payment.
