This app doesn't recognize audio like other apps. So if you play music, the app will continue over the music and not stop. This is especially irritating when taking headphones out of the phone. Most music apps would auto pause, but the news keeps playing, which is usually disruptive at work or in a public place.
In addition to the annoyance of not being able to make it go away, if it happens to be running it makes a noise every time a new show starts... even if you don't have the stream going. It also seems to pop up a little test dialogue on the screen even when it's not running. It seems to stream fine for the most part for me. The live feed dies once every week or so when I'm listening for 30 minutes in the morning, but that's it.
Seems to consume alot of power compared to tune-in app. Also doesn't stop payback when headphones disconnect, moves straight to full blast from speaker which is less than ideal. Cuts out when one clears the list of app windows unlike Tune-in. Love wbur, but this app is less than ideal. I wish phones still had an actual radio. Sighhh. An update now means it crashes all the time,!
This app still restarts the audio stream even if you didn't have it playing when you hangup a call if the app is still running the background. This has been a known issue for years and still unfixed and can cause some embarrassing moments when audio starts blasting after hanging up. Been an issue across three generations of Android phones.
Great way to keep up when I miss a favorite show. And my radio at home gets such poor reception, I often use it to livestream. I've used the app daily for 2 years. The only problem I've noticed (probably a phone issue), is that switching between wifi & data isn't always smooth.
I really like having the app, but it needs stable wifi connection. If using phone data and signal strength is wavering/unstable wifi the app closes or the podcasts restart from the begining every time it looses the connection. Also the saved and downloaded podcasts do not play....it says it does but it does not. Please fix.
I found same problem: After pausing the App, I left it on. It starts streaming again in about 4 hours, all by itself. This surprised me and caused embarrassment and annoyance. I have to remove it from the task Tab to disable it.
The app is okay but the fact that the notification can't be is not acceptable. I have to go in settings and kill the app to make it go away! Come on! No other media playing app does that. Get a swipe close for the notification!
very good application with one exception. It uses up way more battery any other Radio application from any station and the TuneIn Radio app. there must be a serious flaw in the CPU usage to cause such a drain.
I can't rewind the live stream!! I just switched from an iPhone where that can be done. So much a part of the way I listened it is an extreme disappointment. And the app description says android and iPhone have the same functionality
Good for listening when you don't have a radio but have wifi or cell network. One annoying feature - you have to 'force stop' the app to remove icon from notification bar. Update: December 2020 - issue is still not fixed
Horrible app. Stops playing all the time, doesn't close when you close the app, also have to slide off the screen. Don't bother with the app just go to the mobile site.
Every so often, the app will simply stop playing love radio. When I click it to play, it might play for a few seconds and then it suddenly stops. It does this over and over again. Please fix this!!!
Sound quality is good, and app used to work consistently, but recently playback stops randomly and I have to turn app off and back on again. Reinstalling didn't help.
I too wish you didn't have to force stop the app every time you you're not using it. Creepy little "test dialogue" that pops up randomly, as someone else put it. And the random dings. This review is for the app itself only, love wbur!
Basic features work fine. Giving 2 stars because i can't figure out why it occasionally beeps at me, and there's no way to disable that feature that i can see.
Keeps stopping playback/streaming for no reason. As others have stated, you have to keep manually restarting (hitting play) every few minutes.
I switched from iOS to Android, the app states that I can rewind my favorite shows. Worked for iOS, not so much for Android.
this app has to be uninstalled betwern uses because, although I have pressed pause, or finished listening to the program, it just wakes up and plays commercials while my phone is in my pocket and I am walking around the IKEA bedding department.
I installed this app several times. Unfortunately the content is so biased, I always end up uninstalling within a few days. This organization needs to either clean up their act or stop pretending to be an objective news source. The interviewers fail to challenge guests on unsubstantiated claims.
Zero stars. I had to put in 1 star or I would not be able to post this. App repeats portions (skips like an old vinyl album) also stops playing completely.
I love it although sometimes it does drop content in the middle of a program. It's still wonderful!
Awesome! But I have one request: Can you put a banner at the top so that I can pause and play the feed without having to go back to app everytime? Thank you, love y'all 🖤
I want to love it, but it just stops playing sometimes and I can't seem to get it going again without hard closing the app and trying again.
Very disappointed when I switched from iPhone to Android to discover the WBUR app doesn't have the rewind/forward fast function while listening to live broadcasts. I often used to pause the broadcasts when interrupted at work, then start it again where I'd left off. Now, without that option I'm missing a good deal of the programs, which is frustrating. I'm certainly not getting the great experience I used to with my old iPhone app. Hope something can, and will, be done about this.
