WeatherSignal

WeatherSignal uses native phone sensors to measure local atmospheric conditions, which are then displayed on our live-updating weather map. Join the world's largest crowdsourced weather project.Features:✓ Readout for all the sensors on your device (think Tricorder
- but real!)✓ Widgets for temperature, magnetic, light, humidity and pressure sensors (if you have them)✓ Save all data to CSV
- play with it however you like✓ Map of readings of other users and of your own, see averages within each map window, click on icons to see full readout✓ Manual reports✓ Tons of graphs (for geeks like us :))✓ Contribute to our maps (you can turn off sharing in settings) ✓ Share data to help us improve the weather forecast✓ Looks great on tablets
Turn your device into a thermometer, barometer, lightmeter and hygrometer
- depending on which sensors your device has
- with this app your phone is a mobile science kit!

Get the beta:https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/100212178184385927394By using WeatherSignal you become part of the world's most ambitious weather crowdsourcing project – helping to record weather patterns on a more localised level than ever before. We are working with numerous meteorological institutions, including the Univ. of Washington, Birmingham Univ. and the UK Met Office. Your readings help us improve weather forecasting for everyone!

*Thermometer readings are experimental!*

**
* This app is experimental! Individual TEMPERATURE readings may be incorrect, but when averaged over many users we get reliable information for our community powered maps. ***

The app works best on the Galaxy S4 since it has the most sensors. Get a StormTag to add sensors to your phone.

The WeatherSignal app can measure:✓ Pressure (certain devices only)✓ Temperature (see note)✓ Light Intensity ✓ Humidity (Galaxy S4 only) ✓ Magnetic Flux ✓ Acceleration (turn on in application settings)

This app features Google's Activity Recognition: monitor when you're walking, in vehicle, on a bicycle. Save the results to CSV and perform your own analysis/create maps, for example for quantified self.**
* TEMPERATURE ***

We’ve come up with an algorithm that translates battery temperature into ambient temperature – making your phone a thermometer. For each user this is approximate but there is a very strong correlation between battery and ambient temperature when spread over a crowd of users. If you are using a cell phone without an external thermometer then the temperature reading you’ll see is a battery temperature reading converted through our algorithm. Often the algorithm will get it wrong, but we've shown that with appropriate averaging and filtering, these readings correlate extremely well with external ambient air temperature.

The Galaxy S4, which has an ambient air temperature thermometer, may produce incorrect readings if the phone is hot due to use.

Seems to work as documented. Can't tell if it's collecting data when my tablet is closed. The 10m average plots always seem to lack any history when I display them.

Close to accurate readings. However, it still isn't perfect.

Ok, i sometimes think im the only person still using the app? Cant find other users on any map?

always handy to show me why i always get a crappy t-mobile connection.

good app and accurate reading !

No updates in five years. That can't be a good sign.

It would be nice to have an update...

It's a good idea 💡 but it still needs major work on the algorithm being used. The current algorithm being used is awful. A few degrees off I can understand. But I can guess the temperature myself and get closer to the actual temperature outside then this app can. The other weather apps I have tried and currently use give better temperature readings then this app.

The temperature reading is always wrong 15 - 20 degrees too low. If you can't get that right what good is it. This application work great on Samsung Galaxy 4 but not on 5. Months ago I sent feedback and was advised to continue using it even though it was bad because they would debugging with that info. Guess they didn't figure it out.

Not ready for prime, worse than Beta status. Excessive resources / battery usage drain. Keeps phone from sleeping at night, slows phone down to a terrible sluggish state Horrible accuracy of temp & all readings. Keep saying its 86* while standing outside in AZ heat of 110*, crowd sourcing makes accuracy worse. Uninstalling, going back toy true / tried AccuWeather app.

It seems to take advantage of my Note 3's humidity sensor just fine, so in addition to everything else it can do, I think it's been doing a great for me. I can quickly get my local temperature and humidity readings. I'm not so sure how accurate the ambient light, magnetism, and pressure readings are (I don't think the light sensor is accurate, maybe more just for reference of how bright things are), but the temperature and humidity readings seem to have been accurate for me, so I'm satisfied with the app. No adds or nothing, and easy to use

I subtracted some points Due to 1 function. What is Mag flux. This is something I have never seen in a weather report before. Is there a help function so I could better understand. I find this mildly annoying. Most everything else is above average but this 1 part keeps me from fully enjoying it. 3.5 is my score.

The concept of this app is beyond amazing but my galaxy s5 doesn't contain a temperature sensor. Since my phone fails I get inaccurate temp readings. Most times this app is within 5 - 10°F which is amazing beings it reads the battery temp and converts it then aggregates it with other users' readings. Keep up the great work!

Note 3, haven't had any battery issues in almost a year of running the app. I'm still waiting on my storm tag. The mapping could be a lot better (contour lines between points, interpolations, etc). Atmo only talks on opening the app, I find it helpful in interpreting the data (ie, pressure drops, storms are brewing, etc). It would be nice if those responses and automatic analyses would be easier available to the layperson user. I also run a humidifier in the winter, I feel this might skew the humidity read.

I suggest that from 2015 to replace the phone temperature (which cannot be accurate even improved by your algorithm) with the temperature from StormTag Bluetooth Weather Station. So, only people who buy StormTag, to contribute with the temperature to the weather map. You can put a link for people to preorder StormTag.

Used often on my Galaxy Note 3 and enjoyed app. Temp readings were often accurate and used often to see indoor readings of temp & humidity. However, I recently upgraded to the Note 4 and the humidity reading is no longer available, which seems odd. That is the one reading I truly use this app for... I read it depends on equipment what will display, but Now disappointed.

Is it still supported. Web site doesnt work. No email response and no map updates regards peoples reports. Should be taken down

keep improving,don't give up.

I like it getting weather on the spot and across hundreds of spots nearby! It will only get more accurate and useful as more peeps join and the app further develops. Join in - its part of a great future.

It works well for what it does. Would be nice if it could do more. For example give explanations on its readings. For newbies to meteorology.

Don. J. Aug 3, 2014

If the app can't even get the temp correct, and you spend most of your time indoors anyway, then it's pointless to crowd source the data.

Kyl. C. May 18, 2015

Barometer never changes. Found its not using internal barometer like most others. "DS Barometer" is the only app I have found to actually measure internal barometer changes.

Wel. G. Nov 30, 2015

Great concept. But temperature readings are way off. Said it was 70 and the real temp is 29 Blu Studio x

Ted. L. Feb 6, 2015

Tends to use too much resources. ..If that could be sorted it would get 5 stars. ..not an app for novices really

Wil. H. Jul 31, 2014

I hope this becomes more popular. Even if there are some outliers in the data, it would still show trends. Cool idea. BUG: seems to be fixed

Joh. T. Aug 20, 2014

Still figuring some things out. Accurate abou 99% of the time. Obviously, there are things that can skew the sensors, but if you pay attention, it delivers quite well. Does exactly what I need it to..

I like this real time weather reporting. Temperatures aren't 100% accurate but it is usually pretty close. Nice to see so many people reporting their current conditions in my area and more places.
