Regrets. Thought this was going to be more of a pure storytelling game that would be quick to pick up. Instead, it's just another RPG system in an app where you have to spend time creating and saving your chatacter. The video tutorials gave me no idea about what a game session was like; that should have been first and foremost. Then again, it is all my fault that I didn't research it enough, but still, the artwork gives the impression it's going to be a more casual, gamelike experience.
Bought a set at launch, still unable to actually play the game due to faulty app. I keep asking about it in the discord, and always told the next update will fix it, but months later still no joy. This is not an issue with card scanning, card scanning works, but for some reason is intentionally not shown in the UI, causing people to think it doesn't work at all. Something as simple as correcting a known UI bug to display the playset details again shouldn't still be inhibiting the process.
Great concept! Only gripe is that the app is a bit glitchy when expanding descriptions of attributes. It tends to freeze a bit every so often, but does eventually come back to life after a few seconds or so. While these issues seem minor, it's definitely annoying while trying to introduce new players to the game.
Unfortunately, you'll have a lot of trouble playing this game with an Android phone. The app would only recognize the cards if we shined an external flashlight at them. When scanning for a card you don't even get a visual of what you're aiming at. Hopefully future updates will improve this game, it's unfortunately unplayable right now.
My son who plays a lot of this type of game bought this for the family at Christmas and we never got it to work. Some of us had tech issues with our smart phones and, once we got those figured out and everyone had a character set up and we had a mission, we still had problems figuring out the rules. My son finally gave up. If we ever get to play the game, my rating could go up. I'm just saying that the installation and getting set up certainly wasn't smooth.
The app is pretty good, but two things: 1) the setup icon (the gear) disappears from the season page until I lose and relaunch the app. 2) when creating a local character as A Storyteller, there are no options provided for Signature Moves.
90 minute set up and my non rpg family gave up after character introduction. Not an entry level quick game, and to market it that way is misleading. Looks really nice which actually makes this more annoying. I wanted it to work and your design prevented me from playing it.
Halfway through playing a game my account information disappeared. I was able to get it to come back by deleting the app entirely and re-installing. Now even that doesn't work and I can't see the campaign I'm trying to start at all!!
I'm sure this game might be fun, but the app does not open the soft keyboard to let you type your username or password. Since you can do nothing until logged in, the app is functionally useless until updated. Based on when it was last updated, getting a fix seems unlikely. Unfortunate
I bought this game this last Christmas and was excited about the playset creator, the playability, and the overall design. I DIDN'T GET THAT! Unfortunately, it looks like the creators of this game care less about the development of the game. I bought a box of card that is only worth $10 - 15, for $30, expecting a polished app that was playable right away. The developers care less about the app and won't respond to messages. You are better off getting a d&d app that actually works instead of this
Typos and missing copytext everywhere. Unable to easily delete things, like somehow I added a duplicate character and now my entire season would have to be redone. Clunky and unresponsive. I hope whoever did the code for this app was fired.
App needs some definite work (can't create local characters, so you can only play with other people who have/get the app) but it's great for people who want to dip their toes in RPGs without spending tons of money (D&D makes their own starter kits but they suck). It has multiple story packages, ranging from fantasy to sci-fi. My game so far consists of a legendary cyborg warrior who went blind, a genius who's brain was fried from alien knowledge, and a smooth-talking space pirate. It's great.
Was looking forward to playing this as I picked up the game from a local shop; however, the app will not start the camera to detect the cards (which I guess has been a big issue). Would love to see support on this but it seems the dev team may have moved on from this project.
App Wouldn't Work, Support Non-Existent. 1) I read through the rules, but the app was finicky and would not work properly. 2) I reached out to Monocle Society because the leaflet in the physical game said the app was available on a desktop device. I was asked what platform I was using and after I answered, never heard from them. I'm grateful the store let me return the game.
The keyboard does not load when I click a text field. Since the game requires you to log in before you can use it, that makes the game unplayable.
Other than a few difficulties with reading the cards, this is great! Amazing for one shot adventures with friends!
It won't let me type- I tap on the email address box after tapping 'create new account' and my keyboard doesn't show up. How is anyone able yo play this if the keyboard can't even pop up??
Text inputs don't open the keyboard, rendering the app unusable. For example, I can't login or create an account.
Conceptually, this game is super amazing, but I'm not sure how I feel about the necessity of app integration. Also, this app has been very buggy for me.
I have a real hard time getting people connected to a game. Friends disappear and reappear randomly it seems
This sounds like a fun game but it is unplayable. Without the use of the keyboard this game will not work. However if they do change it sort does, I will most possibly change my rating of this game.
some of the UI can be a little buggy, but it is such a fun concept. I have run a few games with this app and it is a great time.
Does not work with Google Phones. The app will not bring up your keyboard, which makes it almost impossible to play the game since it is all done by the app...
I'm going to start this review by saying I'll happily change the review if the bug is patched. Love the game, but cant use my keyboard for typing. Can't play the game at all.
I couldn't create an account with my first email (possibly because of an unintentional 69 in it), but I got it to work with another. It's working well, but the scrolling could be a little better.
Was a promising idea for an RPG with mediocre execution, and unfortunately it is no longer playable because the app stopped letting you open your keyboard.
New phone, my soft keyboard doesn't open when I click input fields. Makes the entire system completely unplayable.
I was really excited to play this. I got the game and then got the app. As I went into the app to create an account, I realized that the keyboard does not work. I was really excited to be able to play this at lunch with friends. Can you plz fix this?!
App is terrible. No option to use keyboard. How can you play when it requires a log in? Anyone know if they are going to update it?
After being introduced to this game, I was IMMEDIATELY hooked! I love the concept of the game, a simpler version of D&D, and the random yet incredibly well-woven story flow that the cards create! The only problems I have with this app are: At first, the "more" and "settings" and "add season" buttons did not show up, but was fixed after I closed and restarted the app. Some descriptions in certain seasons are blank. I have heard a lot about the "playset creator" but I have not seen any hint of it.
