Website Shortcut

Personalize your Android homescreen by creating your own icon shortcuts for websites. Customize your website shortcuts with your own selected text and image. Furthermore, there are no advertisements and it's free. I made it originally for myself, and decided to share. Giving a fair rating is very well appreciated!
Many applications have made the switch from native applications to a single mobile-friendly website. Although this is a positive development, it means that you can only open them conveniently via bookmarks. This requires two taps in the best case, while a shortcut on your homescreen requires only a single tap! It is especially convenient and time-saving for often visited websites.

Features:
* Automatically detect name and icon (via the website URL)
* Make use of "Share via..." in any other application (e.g. Chrome) to create shortcuts
* Icon selection via both path (local) and URL
* Supports linking local application URIs (e.g. whatsapp://send?text=Hello)
* Shortcut preview
* Automatic protocol prefix
* URL validation
* Broad support for image formats: *.png, *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.ico, *.gif, *.bmp
* Free
* No advertisements
* Dynamic adjustment of icon dimensions
* Works with icon packs
* Supported languages: English, Dutch, German

Just lost all my shortcuts Has always been a solid app but for some unknown reason all my shortcuts disappeared from my home screen today without warning. Really annoying especially when I recreate them there is no icon I need to add it manually. Oh, and adding icon files (in whatever format) from OneDrive results in "invalid ico file". Have to save them locally. Now, if only I can remember the dozen or more shortcuts I had saved...

BEWARE! Do not update! The whole purpose of the app is to create a shortcut as well as enter your own label. This is what 'Add to home screen' doesn't offer. Yep - exactly that functionality is now removed from the app, making it much more complex (you now first have to capture an image somehow and store it locally).

Really good app. It's so easy to create shortcuts to my home screen. Tried using both Chrome and Edge browsers shortcuts to home screen but they didn't work as well as this app. Update: Even better now because I've found a way to create shortcuts to files and pictures stored on my phone, not just for websites.

I use this simple app instead of a browser's save-to-homepage shortcuts. A browser's save-to-homepage disappear when switching to a different browser, or having to remove & reinstall the browser. Also, if two browsers are installed, the browser's save-to-homepage will only open in it's own browser. And this app now keeps refreshing a list of current shortcuts which I backup to a cloud

Brilliant app. Quick, easy, worked perfect. In one circumstance, Android browsers would only add an incorrect shortened version of a url to my phone home screen, but this Website Shorcut app added the url shortcut perfectly.

Since the major "update" to v. 3.4.1 on on 1-14-22, this app went from just "Ok", to "not so good" with the removal of automatically adding the webpage icon as the shortcut icon. Now, it is more difficult to find an added 'shortcut' and distinguish it from other app icons and other shortcuts created with this app. This app was better, before it was 'improved'. ("Fixed it until they broke it".) I'll be looking for its replacement soon.

It Works! Does exactly what it says in an easy way even on Android 9. Many shortcut apps don't actually put the shortcut on the home screen, but this one works. It's advantage over the shortcut features on many browsers is that this one will point to the current default browser instead of the one used to create the shortcut if done from within a browser. Nice advantage if you switch browsers. Only desire a way to suppress the watermark added to the icon. I'd pay for that.

Works Great! I like having shortcuts to frequently used sites on my homepage. Though I was always a little frustrated that they couldn't be edited by changing the name or icon. This app fixed that. I also like that is automatically uses the default web browser to open pages. The only thing that i would change would be to have the option to not have the tiny app icon on each shortcut. Maybe in a paid version?

This app does only one thing and does it very well. I'd grown tired of shortcut icons that pictured only a single letter and was looking for the easiest way to customize icons that couldn't be recognized at a glance. In seconds I can fix that boring icon and make the new shortcut so much easier to identify. Thank you, dev, for sharing this wonderful little tool!

Thanks you creator! This took forever to find, but it was worth it. After an update to my phone, I lost all my shortcuts on the home screen and couldn't use the "add to homescreen" function anymore. A lot of people are having this issue, so I will recommend this. I run a business and it's important to have the function to get to websites I use on a daily basis. It was fast and easy and worked like a charm!

Was an excellent App before the update! I'd give it 5 stars if they hadn't taken the icon-auto-fetch functionality away in a recent update. This move doesn't make any sense, as this functionality was great to easily identify the various shortcuts on the screen. Please bring that function back!

Awesome app! Easy to use. You can add short cuts on your home page and title them and add your own photo to make an icon for easy identification! Took a little time to figure out how to add the icon photo but all in all, it's straightforward and easy to use! Love it. No more shortcuts naming themselves! Thank you.

No more "App not installed". Extremely useful for creating web shortcut widgets not tied to a particular browser app—e.g. if you change you default browser from time to time and either disable or uninstall the previous one. Also, this app has no ads, no in-app purchases; as simple as it gets.

App updated and deleted all of the shortcuts. Now there's no way to create new ones using favicons so not only is the app useless to me now but I lost all of my bookmarks. Bravo.

Was good but now has very serious faults. Poor at retaining your shortcuts and very unforgiving. The ability to use the web site logo has also vanished.

I use this INSTEAD of adding a browser shortcut, because those open in the particular browser ignoring android default browser settings, plus the shortcuts uninstall along with that browser. I stopped updating this app since I like the previous feature to optionally pull the icon from the page (that feature is worth the 5th star).

Excellent free app without ads that lets you create custom shortcuts to websites, including using a gallery photo for the icon and your own text for the description. Works fine on Android Pie. No point in criticizing the developer for the bottom right graphic that appears on your custom icons since this is a "feature" added by Google to Android Pie.

The interface was good and I was glad that the app explained its permissions and data policy clearly. Only problem is that creating a shortcut fails everytime with the message "shortcut installation failed". I understand this to be ultimately due to an Android API change in Oreo to which app developers are scrambling to respond, but for me for now this app is essentially non-functional. (Android version: 8.1.0. Launcher: ADW Launcher 2.0)

I had to download an older version of the app from the internet because the new version was not good at all. The ability to auto-download the icon from each website was very useful. Why get rid of something so simple?

Ami. K. Jan 15, 2022

Very bad update of new version Previous version was very good No automatic scan images No automatic scan labels.

It's a simple but very useful app. The only thing I would ask is to have an option to select the browser for opening each shortcut. I have 2 browsers installed, and for some webpages I prefer not to use the default one.

For some reason, DuckDuckGo wouldn't let me put a shortcut on my home screen for easy access to my blog. This allowed me to do it and it still puts me through DuckDuckGo as well. Super easy, thank you!

It works. Thank you! Turned out that my recently purchased Android 4.4.4 was incompatible with Box and OneDrive, and I did not want to use any heavy browser for access. So I installed Via browser just for the above for quicker access, and Website Shortcut created shortcuts for me .

Excellent app! It lets me create website shortcuts for Firefox that have CUSTOM names - not the long URL or whatever else Firefox grabs. And it does it without pestering you with ads. If this hadn't been free, I would have bought it. I have a Galaxy S7 with Android 8 Oreo and it works flawlessly.

You can create shortuts directly from a browser but they always open in that particular browser. Worse still Google News always opens in its own dreadful browser. This app creates shortcuts that always open in your current default Web browser. Problem solved!

Perfect! Exactly what I wanted. I went through 2 websites, and a handful of apps, none of which would help me do what I wanted to do. All I wanted was to be able to customize the icon to a shortcut of a website that I added to my home screen. This app does exactly that! And does it flawlessly. Very happy!

Niche, but works perfectly. Was able to use this app to create a direct link to my Google Assistant reminders through the Google app since I sometimes like to check them without using voice commands. Very useful for custom shortcuts/links and special-case scenarios.

I had a url that is dynamic, and the website processes the request on the server side and sends the correct page, but with the browser's "save to home screen", it didn't get the dynamic url only the fixed that I'm sent to. This app allows me to use that dynamic url! Happy me

It works!! Needed when Chrome "add to home screen" did not give correct URL. This app was easy to use. I picked a photo from my tablet for the icon. It correctly sized the photo and put it on the home screen with the name I typed in and the URL I pasted.
