Weiou – View the world

For 5 years we (weiou.org) have been working with college students to help children in the rural area. Our book project has donated 3000 books to help children’s reading and help them to explore all types of questions in their mind. There was once in Jiangxi, south China, children asked our volunteer how the outside world looked like. The volunteer managed to answer the boundaryless question with photos in his cell phone. He showed the children the Potala Palace in Lhasa, the Merlion in Singapore and the Golden Gate Bridge in California, showed them deer, squirrel, and turkey, and showed them rose bushes, sequoia, and fig trees. While the kids chattering “wow”, “what’s this”, “where is this”, the volunteer realized that besides reading books, children need more to learn and to see. The solution may be an App. When the public help share photos of what they see and where they travel, or anything they consider worthy, children can see those “what” and “where” with their own eyes. And they can view the world before they can leave their village.
Hence this App.
Regardless of whether this is a mass need or essential need, that more and more people sharing and viewing photos in the Weiou App tells us besides the need of children’s knowledge thirst, it’s also yearning of people who loves life and loves helping others. Every photo shared can find a place on map and light up a corner. Through the Weiou App, sharing becomes helping. We believe very soon we will be able to view the whole world.

Function Specification:
1. Geo-tagged photos. Turn on GPS when you take photos, the photos will be mapped as in Google Earth.
2. Social sharing photos. As in Instagram, you can share, tag, view, comment, like, favor and repost photos.
3. Photos of real time events. As in Waze, you can share photos of real time events and map them.
4. View in categories or search. As in 500px, you can share your works and find people of similar or the same interests and connect with them.
5. Create stories with photos.
Note: Google Earth and Instagram are not available in certain countries. Through the Weiou App your works can reach more people.
