This is the first time your app has worked properly in at least 2 years. You've earned 3 stars for that. We'll see if it keeps working or if it all falls apart... I'll adjust my review in the next month or two to reflect your ongoing performance. Good luck. Edit: Couldn't even last 6 months before the whole thing imploded. An absolutely useless product, worse than before. Maybe in a month I'll be able to turn my lights off remotely but until then, I practically just have normal light switches.
I'm testing three donated Wemo Minis, and now I know why the previous owner dumped them. I did multiple factory resets on all of them. Ran the app on two devices. All of them fail. Hard to tell if it's the app or the hardware or both. I haven't had problems like this with other brands. There's no excuse for Belkin not being able to figure out smart switches. It's not rocket science.
Absolutely terrible. I got a smart plug and two other (actually useful) things on clearance and it worked great for the first two days and now I understand why it was only $4. It now refuses to connect to the app and even when it does, it doesn't respond. There was an update so I tried to update the plug but it took a little under 30 minutes and the problems got even worse. I'm never buying anything from this brand ever again. This smart plug is going DIRECTLY into the trash.
Been using this for a few years. Was loving it. Now I'm thinking of switching or putting the old switches back. One light switch is not connected to the app. Been like that forever despite all troubleshoots done. Including disconnecting it. Past rules are still stuck on the switches that are set for, even though I had deleted them. And one of my switch is turning itself on at a random time that I never set a rule for (in past or present) and the rule that is actually inputted is not working.
The app needs so much improvement. It is simple, but confusing - try setting up the rules! Now the app isn't allowing me to change the name of my smart plugs; I edit and make the change, but as soon as I save it, it resorts to the original name. I reset it and reinstalled it - now the name is blank. So frustrating from such a competent company who is usually excellent at making complicated simple and robust.
I don't know which is worse, this app, or the "smart" plug. I had a brief power outtage and have been trying for 45 minutes to reconnect this "cube" plug. I have reset the plug, deleted it, and closed all apps on my cell phone. It shows it as connected, says it's connected to Alexa, but still does not work on the app or with Alexa. Belkin get your act together!!!!
When it works it's great, but I've had to re-install the two I have way too often because they become nonresponsive to either the Alexa or even the Wemo app! It's not as often as it used to be, but I'm still considering replacing them with the slightly more expensive Amazon brand of smart device. I have one of those and I've never had any problems with it!!
The WeMo app itself is good, the issue is with Belkin. The connection to Alexa drops out every month and requires reconnecting. The devices also become undetectable. Sometimes they can be reset at the switch, but some need reset by flipping the breaker in breaker box every month or so. I loved the aesthetics of the switch and the app is decent, but the connectivity issues are so terrible I cannot recommend Belkin products. They have also known about these issues for years but not fixed them.
Customer service is terrible. I had 2. One worked and one didn't. Thought I had a faulty one. That happens. Ordered a new 3rd one. Nope. It doesn't work either. Been PM chatting with them. They respond about once every 10 minutes. Just absolutely not acceptable 😒. In trying to set up the new one, it removed or hid the 1st one, the only one of the 3 that was working. These things are expensive. To get this type of device & extremely poor customer service, I'd rate 0 stars.
I am the owner of 8 Wemo smart switches and 8 Wemo smart plugs. If I wasn't so heavily invested in WeMo I'd probably research other options. The switches are unreliable I found the second generation to be a little better than the first generation same thing with the plugs. The plugs are probably 80% reliable where the switches are maybe 30% reliable. You open the app to turn on the light and the button is not there.
There are much better WiFi timer switches out there. If they lose WiFi they lose the time. I had one die on my less than a year, 1 out of 3. To reset I have to throw the breaker. They lose conn3ction easily. I have 10 others and been testing more because those can only have 12 in the app, but don't lose the schedule because of no wifi. New ones I'm testing don't either and are not limited to 12, stay connected. Don't think it would be right to mention names of other manufactures in my review.
Wonderful until an internet outage or power cut then you have to set everything back up from scatch... so if you're away and you have a power cut all automation is lost... shame. If they fixed this recovery it would be practically perfect...but alas 3 stars because of this. 2 star as I have spent an hour resetting the app and 1 of the wemos to get it connected again. Don't bother.
Works most of the time but sometimes its frustrating. I have a wifi mesh system and for some reason the wemo device chooses to connect to a farther node and as a result weaker signal. After using for a few years, I'm beginning to see some issues. 1. Picture icon disappears then reappear then disappears 2. Erroneous status of switches 3. Loses programming
Works half the time, the scheduling is a nice feature, but again only works half the time so it's not super reliable. If they improved the consistency then it would be 4-5 stars. Edit: figured out why the schedule feature stopped working, I guess the app uses its own clock not the system clock of the device, so it doesn't start/stop Daylight Saving Time..... what a joke
App dies not work most of the time. It freezes or quits unexpectedly. Wemo smart plugs quit and become unavailable to the app, so even if you manage to get through the whole process, you have to TRY do it again when a device disconnects. Connecting a smart plug to the app has worked, but it works inconsistently. Huge waste of time and money.
They are pretty good cameras, clear picture/ nice quality. I just hate that when they updated I couldn't use the newer cameras (higher resolution) with my hub/ base station. To upgrade, I'd have to buy all new cameras and a new system altogether. Also, I'm being charged a certain amount each month and no one seems to be able to explain to me what exactly I'm paying for. I've sent counties emails to no avail. Even phone calls can't help. They speak VERY little English!! It's frustrating.
it is a very simple interface to use..., when it works. Very useful, when it works right. The app doesn't always work however, and getting the switch to reconnect with your WiFi is like pulling teeth. Their solution is always, "factory reset". Three years in and it is still just as buggy to set up. Other than that, I love how easy it is to use. Get the bugs worked out and it will get 5 stars.
Exceptionally difficult to setup, impossible to make changes. Integration with Amazon Alexa is a massive project. Unreliable as hell. They are working fine one minute, and totally messed up the next! Firmware updates for the plugs stopped coming years ago. I do not believe that the app has ever been updated. These devices are unnecessarily complicated. If I could give negative stars, I would.
Likely one of the worst choices I've made in upgrading smart home technology. Switches, dimmers and plug adapters are super expensive and constantly go off line, fail to connect and have to be reset. Programming is not user friendly, customer service staff not helpful and warranty is a joke. This smart home technology has been a colossal waste of time and money. There are better options!!
This app has always been nearly useless. Constantly asks for firmware update, but can't complete update. Now it remembers my Wemo, but it can't find it, even though it's synced through Google home and I can turn it on and off through SmartThings too. But somehow it's not connected? It has been literally years and I have never had a good experience with the app. It installs it once, and then just use third-party apps instead!
Have not been impressed with this system or app to support it. Had a very difficult time getting it to connect with my wifi. Had an even more difficult time getting the devices to connect. Have one device that the app still won't recognize and the other device continuously becomes inactive and there is no way in the app to activate it. Tutorials are almost useless. Everything leads to a reset and having to restart the whole frustrating process all over.
Stared out fine when I first installed everything, loved the switches. But then they decided to change how the app works and force you to create an account with WeMo. Now if you have any problems with them (like a power outage where just one switch dosen't automatically reconnect) it's almost impossible to fix without factory reseting everything and starting over. And even then, good luck relinking them to your account on the first ten tries. I will admit that when they work they're good.
Poor product and app execution. Syncing the smart plug with the app is a failure, constantly trying to discover the device, failure to detect. Products like this just need to be returned for your money back. Unfortunately I'm way out of my return window, the smart plugs are being dumped in the junk box in the garage, doesn't even make it to my junk drawer. I had high hopes, what a disappointment.
Once everything updates, it's a great little app and system. Revised as of 12/24/21: Constantly having issues connecting my existing devices to a new network environment and staying connected. I will no longer purchase any device that requires the wemo app. It is infuriating that there are some many issues with the setup, every single time. No thanks.
[08FEB2020] Firmware update is said to be critical but it always fails. Since Belkin is in control of building the hardware and software, it seems fair to conclude that they can't write software to control their hardware. [26DEC2021] The system had been following the sunset setting despite not responding consistently to manual on/off selections with the wemo app. Over the past month, the wemo app has been dropping 1 electronic device a week. Now only 1 of my 3 devices is detected by the wemo app. A light and a wall plug are no longer detected by the wemo app but the wall plug still turns on at sunset, as I had programmed it, despite not being detected by the wemo app. I'm going to leave things as they are since my experience has been that the system connects and disconnects over a period of weeks (possibly due to upgrades of the app or cloud service) so it is possible that things will come back online. This purchase has taught me that it is important to check the user reviews before purchasing.
I've been a die-hard supporter of WeMo since they were sort of the first cross-platform smart switches on the market and I've stuck with them through the years, maybe almost a decade? But the app is so unstable now. Every time I open it some of my switches are missing or out of communication. I have to go unplug them and replug them. In the end I switched over to tp-link, and they, and the app, work so reliably. I'm disappointed that a product that I've used for so long has really taken a dive
