Backstory: The Nashville Steam Preservation Society is working to restore a J3 steam locomotive No. 576 that has sat idle for more than 65 years. After gathering support, NSPS was able to raise enough funds to move the 576 to the Tennessee Central Railway Museum where it will be restored for steam powered excursion passenger service for Nashville, TN. To celebrate, NSPS is hosting a revival event to celebrate the future removal of the locomotive from the park and the beginning of the process of rebuilding her for service. Previous fundraiser events have involved the whistle from the locomotive being powered by compressed air, but it just doesn't sound right without being on the locomotive with a full head of steam. For special events during the restoration we connect a whistle pull rope to a computer input and simulate the real whistle with PA speakers using this app. There was no app or program available that could do what was desired and sound realistic so NSPS member Alex Mullins set to work to make this app using the Unity engine.

This is a great app unlike all the others where it's just a sound board. This app actually let's you feel like your pulling a real whistle do to being able to quill it and play around with different pitches and stuff. I wish train simulator and other computer train sims could adopt this software to make better sounds but I guess I'll be using this app hooked up to my computer speaker to use as a whistle instead of the one in the actual game for a while lol. Thanks for this great app.
I really like the app. The sound is great and I enjoy being able to adjust the pitch. If u could add sounds of locomotive starting and different speeds it would be fantastic.
This is a great app! It really gives people a chance to see what it would feel like to pull a steam whistle. It would be great to have a rope or lever to make it more realistic, and maybe more whistles/horns for a wider variety (some examples: K5LA, ATSF 6 Chime, K5LLA, etc.).
Guys, this is awesome. No joke this legit acts like a real whistle. You can quill it and everything! If you go into the menu you can adjust the whistle tone. Set it as high as it goes. It sounds just like ET&WNC R.R.'s Baldwin 3 chime. Its perfect for my tweetie layout because you can quill it, sounds so realistic. Go online buy a groove cube bluetooth speaker, shove it in a cattle car facing towards the loco, you've got on board sounds! If you use the pitch adjustment, get almost any sound!
Very creative and original! Pictures are beautiful and it's fun making adjustments to the classic horns and bells. I can tell it's in early development but is already a must have for anyone who loves trains! I can't wait for more to choose! Thank you developer and good work!
Nice whistle & air horn, but would've liked the ability to control diesel bell volume, it is quite low as is. None the less, thank you for a good job & making this available! P.S: echo effect is very good, gives a realistic outdoors sound! An audible steam loco bell would also be great! The pitch adjustment ability with the whistle is very nice! R.C.P.
I absolutely love trains, especially steam trains. I've always wanted an app where you could actually control the whistle sounds. I would love to be able to have the Polar Express whistle sound like from the film. Keep up the good work and I hope more steam locomotive whistles are added to the game.
Amazing app! I would love to see a feature to add our own whistle sounds in the form of looping .WAV sounds. Ex: "K5LA_Loop.wav" would be the sound looped when you held the horn button down, and then "K5LA_End.wav" would be the sound that played when you released the button. And also the ability to add our own bells, just standard looping .WAV files, like "EBell.wav" I'm am SUPER happy to see a diesel horn added. Keep up the amazing work!
Great app honestly its about time they make apps like this for phones for train lovers to enjoy but i also have a couple concerns about the whistle is there anyway they could add more whistle tones from other great engines that are being restored aswell (for example: whistle of 2716 from the Kentucky steam heratage corp) or whistle 765 another great engine that still travel the rails i really feel like people will defiently love this app more if there were more more whistle tones/chimes
i absolutely love it! it actually sounds real (thats coming from someone that's surrounded by the railroad) everything works great and i like the fact you don't need wifi to use it. but i would like to see one feature for the steam locomotive whistle that is if you can add more than 1 type whistle mabey like a crosby 3 chime or southern pacific step top 5 chime, i know the app is about NC&STL 576 but i just think it would be cool.
Finally an app tgat lets you controll the length of the whistle instead of a preset sound! This app is amazing and pretty good for adding horns and whistles when your running things like Lego trains or non DCC HO engines. My only problem is that I wish the bell wouldnt automaticly go on when you use blow the deisels horn
This whislte sim is by far the best I've ever used. One whistle I'd love to see/ hear on this app too would be the Santa Fe 3751s whistle. It would be amazing if you could do that, but besides that, its an amazing game. Thank you
This simulator is great, Im just so mad at some people that didnt know this is only a simulator not a game that makes the train moves and stuff like that. This is just a simulator for the train sounds. Anyways good app!
There are only two good whistle apps I've found even remotely good, this is the best one. I use them with Bluetooth H²O mini speaker in an O gauge flat car crate load vs paying big $ for a digital system.
This by far is the greatest app i have ever used. ive been playing with it for close to a half hour now lol one thing id love to see in the future, just spit balling here, would be the Sierra Railroad #3's whistle as well, or a Southern Pacific six chime. I love your app, and keep up the great work!
I love the app since the update. The desil horn pitch wont change when i try to adjust and add the steam locomotive bell to the whistle. Add more horns and whistles to the selection.
Personally this reminded me of my grandparents back in PA I do wish the sound settings saved if you change trains, other then that very good app
really fun app, it makes you feel as you are really operating the whistle of a steam locomotive. I just hope that in the future you can add other whistle like nkp 765's 80's whistle, a reading 6 chime, a lukenheimer 6 chime and other awesome whistles. Hope to see the 576 rocketing down the line soon.
I had this before and it's a great simulator tbh. The only problem with it is that the current version of this has an audio bug but I'm sure it's a problem that can be fixed. Other than that, not too shabby.
This is perfect for me it enables me to have a steam locomotive whistle but at my own volume of choice for model locomotives I like but can't handle loud sounds tyvm now I can have a steam locomotive go around the tree and handle it because of how it is at the volume of my choice rather than loud over bearing sounds that came with the locomotive
Love the improvements, the whistle cord is problably my favorite update. I hope restoration of 576 goes well! One more thing, could you add a bell sound for steam locomotive in the future?
Clean, clear sounds, and controls that allow you to control the length of the horn and whistle just like the real thing!

I love the steam whistle and different tones ...I like now we have a diesel horn now...but I wish the tone could be adjusted for higher and lower. Otherwise it's cool.
This game is awesome! It would be cool if you could add chuffing for the steam loco, and you could increase the speed of the chufffing. (If u have time though)
Is Very fun!! Though the Echoes are the Exact Same and the Diesel Horn sounds weird... And when I blow the Diesel Horn, The Bell always Activates. That's Pretty Annoying. And can You add Chime Settings? THAT would be Fun!
This is the best train horn/whistle app!!! Unlike most train horn sound apps, you can actually control how long you want the pull or push the whistle/horn....
I really like this update, but I think there should be different horn types and when you pull the horn it comes up one pitch at a time.
loved it, couldn't be more happy with a simulator blowing the whistle of a 4-8-4 northern, I really do hope they add more whistles!
I'm quite impressed with the progress being made on this app. I only downloaded it a few days ago and have been using it nonstop since then. One thing I would request regarding the bell is that there could be an option for a continuous ring. As for alternate whistles and horns, if at all possible, I'd love to see Tweetsie Railroad or the Dollywood Express added for whistlea and Clinchfield 800's Nathan M5 for a horn. Keep up the good work!
