Whitmer Decks Field Tools
The application is written by Cliff Whitmer who has many years of deck building, as well as software development experience.
It has worked well for us on the job site, and is very simple to use.
Take a look at the help section for advice on using the application and helping you build a better deck.
The tools provided include:
Even Spacer - Quick and easy way to divide a measurement to space items evenly.
Picket Spacer - Space Pickets (AKA Balusers, Spindles) evenly for a rail section.
Stairs - Help determine the number of rises needed for a set of stairs.
Common Rafter - Provide the measurements for cutting a common rafter.
Right Triangle - Enter the measurements for two sides of a triangle and get the remaining side only with the angles. Helps in squaring up a deck to the house.
Pitch - Used to determine pitch of an existing roof.
Regular Polygon - Used to determine numbers relating to gazebo layout (octagon, hexagon, etc.).

I don't remember why I downloaded this app but I was not able to figure out how to use app to get what I needed nor do I remember the exact need. It may be good for someone who is more tech savvy. I fly in the dark sometimes.
Really didnt care for it. Didnt really help at all. I build decks all the time. I put in my dimensions for a known deck ive already built and its telling me i have to rip 5 boards? I didnt have to rip any when i built the darn thing. I wouldnt trust this app for sure.
Awesome app that has very useful features that can be applied to many projects giving accurate repeatable results. It is worthy of being a paid app for the utility of it's features.

Great app has taken a lot of thinking out of the game. Just wish you could do drawing of what your building.

Hi cliff, my names zack as a newer deck builder learning the specifics is key to mastering your carpentry, and this app is spot on, now some things you may consider adding based on the decks I build is maybe some helpful hints or mathematics for silt plates, placement and length help for your drops and strapping... or proper technique for installing cladding and perimeter cladding...oh and maybe a guide sheet for center screw placement..again the app is a great help and these were just some ideas for you but great work on the app keep up the great work
Good app, just needs a spot to calculate tread thickness and flooring allowances on top and bottom to work for framing interior stairs.

Literally the best app I've ever downloaded. Been doing carpentry for 18 years, building houses and decks, this is an extremely useful tool, that I use at least once a day. On top of that, it's free! This does way more for me than any construction master calculator which is like 50 bucks. If you build as many decks as I do, you definitely want this app! Only complaint I have is, recently the measurement calculator was removed and put in its own app, i liked everything inside just one app.
