WIFI High Performance Widget

This is a widget to enable/disable WIFI high-performance mode on selected devices. In other words, by using the widget, you can effectively disable the Power Management in the WIFI driver of the phone/tablet. While certainly, it would drain more power, there are some advantages as well:
1. Lowering latency. If the wifi driver does not sleep, the AP does not have to wait until delivering the data. This is desired is many situations, like IP VOIP calls via WIFI, audio streaming, networked games (lower latency means better experience).

2. Ensure wifi is running put into higher PM state even when the screen is off. Again, this helps when you do VOIP calls, stream audio, etc.

3. Solving sporadic/unreliable connectivity problems. Root cause: Some older WIFI routers can't reliably communicate with devices using WIFI Power Management (they may actually sleep, when the AP wants to send data). It helps when your WIFI can connect to the Access Point, but the transfer is either very slow or unreliable (high packet loss). This widget does NOT help, if you can't connect to the WIFI Access Point at all.

4. Simply speed up download transfer rate. YMMV.

The widget should work on all devices with Android 3.1 and higher. In addition, this was tested and found to work on Samsung Galaxy S II (even with GingerBread). Some users reported this also works with Acer Iconia and Galaxy Tab. Other devices may or may not support this feature. Please see for yourself. Please leave comments/rating if it helped.

USAGE: Add the widget to your home screen and tap on it to enable wifi and to activate/deactivate the high-performance mode. If you don't see the widget, start the activity. The widget should be properly listed afterwards.

Automatic toggle feature works using the following ruleset:1. If Wifi connection is lost or manually disabled/disconnected, the HighPerformance mode will automatically be disabled (if it was enabled) to save battery.2. If you reconnect to the last connected network, the last applicable state of the HighPerformance setting will automatically be restored.3. If you connect to a different network than you had been previously, HighPerformance mode will be enabled based on the preference setting in the Application (whitelist)

Notice: While the READ_PHONE_STATE is indeed a very powerful and dangerous permission, I am not using it for anything else than to know if there's an incoming or outgoing call to be able to use it as a trigger. Nothing else, really...

If you'd like to double-check whether this widget has really done the job on your phone, you can try the following:1. PING your phone from you computer with disabled wifi performance mode. Make note of the average round trip time. In my case case this was around 50ms2. PING your phone from you computer with ENABLED wifi performance mode. In my case the average round trip time shortened to about 2-3ms. If there's no significant different between the two cases, chances are your phone does not support WIFI High Performance Mode.

Don't think it works as of 2017. Phones have improved and repeaters are cheap and plentiful. Besides, from Android 5 onwards no stream gets through the phone with the screen off; you need an app to keep the screen dimmed at the very least so low power mode never comes into effect anyway.

I have used this on multiple devices over a five-year period in 3 different states. It started when I was at a farm out in the field and simply could not get a signal in the tent. Once I installed the app I can get a signal from The Farmhouse. I tried probably 20 other similar apps in the field before this one and none of them did anything at all. That was five years ago, granted... but when something works why try anything else?

Seems like a good app, but it did not fix the issue I have with my Nexus 4. When an WiFi and streaming via TuneIn, once the screen turns off, the audio will eventually cut off. Waking the screen causes it to rebuffer and work. Over 3G, no issues.

I have a very old Wifi at home and because of the locked Wifi power management settings on my S3 mini, I couldn't connect, because of compatibilty issues. With this app I can at least connect to it, although the connection is still bad. It further improved my connection on other wifi hotspots.

I have had a Samsung Galaxy Nexus for a year now. It suffers from wifi dropouts all day long. I notice this alot while listening to streaming music and talk radio on iHeart Radio. After installing the Wifi High Performance widget, all the dropouts stopped. I am happy with streaming on my Galaxy Nexus now.

Best WiFi performance app ever! It not only took a signal where I live that was so weak it was unstable and made it more stable but it made the speed and performance of it go way through the roof! Couldn't even get on play store before this app! It's so good, I made it my system app! Five stars for a high quality app and the genius who made it! Brilliant!

It Does Work Doesn't boost signal. Works by constantly checking for signal to pull it in. I notice a bog improvement in holding onto a weak wifi signal.

Great for keeping a constant connection, and it saves multiple others. Great app if you're phone is dropping wifi constantly. IMO give it a try

I used the overworked "awesome" word because I was getting so fed up with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 dropping my Internet connectivity every 5 to 10 minute's. I had tried other WiFi apps to no avail. I have a $200 Linksys router, an E4200 dual band, gigabit device. I thought it must be defective. In frustration I started to look around and found this app. SINCE I INSTALLED THIS APP, I HAVE NOT DROPPED MY INTERNET CONNECTION ONCE!!! Its been about 2 months now. That's why I titled my comments AWESOME..."

When I got this phone a year or so ago I had problems with staying connected to Wifi. I installed and ran this app. Thought it might be helping but didn't pay it much mind. A week ago I was clean out old apps and uninstslled it. Dang phone started dropping like crazy. Came back for it now. Never knew it was one of my best apps on my phone. Thanks! I won't be without it again.

This app really works. Fixed my packet loss and it really lowered my ping for gaming. The ping is really stable. Thank you developers

As far as I can tell, this appears to fix my connection issues on my home wifi.

My Acer Iconia A500 had wifi issues with most ROM's I tried. This solves that. Boom. No more wifi issues.

Tested using speed test and before it was slowing it down to about 1/6 now does not not. I would really like the option to only have it active while charging though.

It's amazing But it'll be better if you made one for windows, I don't usually use my phone

No benefit to speed or ping running off a 100mb fibre optic connection. No doubt it does benefit other devices with lower connections though, however for me not needed so uninstalling.

I did notice a slight increase in the WiFi signal strength, but not too much. Still this thing has increased overall internet speed say like 3-4x. Working well.

This app cut my latency by about 40%! Now if only had an option to turn off the WiFi Power Saving mode! Doing that manually made the total latency cut about 85% (11ms Ping)! This app does work well though and it has worked for me on the following models: Samsung Galaxy S3 & Note 2 phones and the Galaxy [P7510] Tab 10.0", as well as the LG Optimus F6 phone and the Asus TF701T 10.1" Tablet. It fixed problems on all of these devices for us! Thanks, Dev!!! :-)

Amazing I'd say it makes my wifi connection 4 times better and the best part is its a widget so it's so easy to turn on and off thank you so much for this app!

It works on my lenovo vibe shot thank for the app it realy helps me alot.

When the apps is switched on, I tried to do some bandwidth test using okla speedtest and ping test using fing. Results are dissapointing, my bandwidth was slightly decreasing. A lot of packets were lost during ping test and my ping latency was almost three times higher than normal state. So i guessed, it doesn't work for me

Unfortunately makes absolutely no differences on ping latencies on my Nexus 10. Still getting response times between 2 to 6 seconds most of the time when screen is off.

My connection was turning off when I lock the screen. I forgot this problem with this amazing app.
