After seeing some negative reviews, the reviewers mostly not understanding the concept of a frontend, I felt the need to write a good one as a token of gratitude for an app I've used daily for years. It's a simple little frontend for Wiktionary with tabs, autocomplete, working links, the ability to save words, dark mode etc. Not sure what more one would want. It's a sad testament to the innovativeness of digital capitalism that this dictionary is superior to most I've seen. O mores!
I was using this app and really enjoyed browsing for different words. However, the app stopped working and displayed a blank page saying: "An unknown error occurred," and "stream was reset: PROTOCOL_ERROR". It's been like this for several days, nearly a week. How do I fix this?
Immediately after loading, got icon screen, three UNKNOWN ERROR OCCURRED and RETRY. I retried, but the same error kept repeating. The app seems to be broken. It may just be incompatible with latest Android. Pity if so.
Does not work. At all. I've sent an email to support, no response yet. Been like this for a month or more. OnePlus 8 Pro, Android 11. Whatever I try to do, it just says: An unknown error occurred. stream was reset: PROTOCOL_ERROR
Great app, there are even tabs and a preview of the link! Thanks +++++ Edit since 03/2022, I can't use this app anymore. Suddently, without changing anything, I get the error 'stream was reset: PROTOCOL_ERROR' whenever I search for a word. ++++++Edit2: I found the app Spell4Wiki which works great.
It's a great app all around. DEVELOPERS, please look into why it has stopped working (as noted in other recent reviews). The ERROR I get is: "isConnected failed: ENETUNREACH (Network is unreachable)."
Hands down The best app for Etymology and Multilingual dictionary. Though it need improvement in certain parts but still very good. If the app is made mobile friendly, then it might be great. And yeah it doesn't open the link provided and shows error while editing.
This app was great, but a little while ago it just stopped working. Every time I would search for a word I would get an error. Hope this gets resolved soon. I don't want to give up on this. Update: I just gave up in it, because this clearly isn't getting fixed.
The app was great and ideal for searching Wiktionary. It was faster than using a browser. But, recently, it stopped to work (a network error).
I love it and use it a lot, especially to help me with learning a new language. Unfortunately as of late I've been getting an unknown error. Apparently the stream is reset it just says "PROTOCOL_ERROR" when searching up a new word
Great app; however, the addition of alternate screen aspect ratios would be nice. My phone has a 21:9 aspect ratio screen and the app shows on my screen with a huge black gap at the bottom, positively negating the benefits of the extra screen real state.
Same error as everyone else causing it to no longer work: "An unknown error occurred. Stream was reset: PROTOCOL_ERROR" Before this error it was a great app, as far as free third-party Wikimedia apps go
The searching bar is not at the top of the screen on my device for some reason. It is somehow below it, leaving an irritating vacuum of unused space above. 5 stars, in case it fixed.
awesome app, + much faster page loading than while using a browser + remains stable with lots of opened tabs - opens every new tab in your device's system language, which is in my case irrelevant. Please add an option to select a default language independantly from system. Or make it not reset on every new tab open
Great app. Makes Wiktionary searches very easy and time efficient on mobile devices. Things I appreciate is the easy-to-handle language switch button and the dark mode. Cheers.
Good, but I wish it would let you open Wikipedia links on some Wiktionary pages in the browser. Also my screen has an alternate aspect ratio just like one of the other reviews I saw, and there's a large black border at the top as well
I would rate it better, since it is a very practical app, but it displays PROTOCOL_ERROR and refuses to work in my new phone.
the navigation bar is not displayed correctly and its top half is cut off at the top of the app. there is no feature of bug reporting so I'm posting this here. currently, this app is unusable for me. huawei ane-lx1, android 9
App was working great then suddenly I'm getting an error everytime I try to use it. Would be great if this error could be fixed
No longer works. Even when it did, the app was clearly well out-of-date but more functional than just a web browser
Poor. I loved this app but now it doesn't work. Even after removing and reloading. "Unknown error" messages
It only displays 6 characters per line for some sections. Plus its just the same as a browser, no added conveniences aside from search history.
This was a great little app, but unfortunately the API it was using seems to have been cut off and it no longer works.
No longer works most of the time due to a recent error. If fixed, it is a good and convenient app
Great app, easy to use, well done, no add! Edit: it doesn't more anymore: protocol error..
I loved Wikisurfer on my iPhone, but when I installed the Android version ony Google Pixel, it crashes when I try to open it.
Usually a good app. But recently there has been this error: "stream was reset PROTOCOL_ERROR"
Keeps displaying, "An unknown error occurred. stream was reset: PROTOCOL_ERROR" Tapping reset, or reinstalling yields same results.
Pretty simple yet complete app; it even has a function to save pages for offline reading which comes great for me. The only issue is it too often blocks itself for some reason: it displays "stream was reset: protocol_error" and I can't look for anything for a while; trying to open a new tab, shutting off the app, or clearing its cache doesn't seem to fix it.
