I love you wnyc! But your app is terrible. It crashes every few minutes and seems to do so right when the most important info or part of a story is bring told. It's so frustrating! Also, there is no way to search for specific shows. You have to scroll through the whole list of shows in alphabetical order to find what show you'd like. It's just not user friendly. Your content is always a+. Please hire some better app developers.
This used to be a great app, however recently the streaming drops every several minutes. This can be extremely frustrating as you may be listening to some critical point and the sound stops. By the time you're able to restart the app the topic has changed and you're left not knowing what was said. Please fix this problem and I will then update this review.
How can I love a station so much, and hate it's app almost as passionately?? I could deal with the constant crashing (frequently right in the middle of an important interview) if I then wasn't subjected to a 'commercial' (the same one I had just listened to the previous 3-5 times it crashed in the past half hour) before I can continue listening! I'm begging you to fix this.
April 21/20, This app is a love hate relationship. Love station, hate app. Crashes & shuts off every 5 minutes or less, then mid program starts again and repeats ad promo. Love station but way too much work to make app work! It's had this problem consistently for years. Great station but the most unreliable app out there. Shuts off every few minutes. Same experience on all cell phones for 2 years, with latest updates. No other apps have this problem.
Used to like this app. Easy to find podcasts and the discovery mode was great! Now it just glitches out and crashes all the time. Also, there is no easy way to search the podcast you want. Everything involves a lot of scrolling to find the show and then to find back episodes.
This app was great before...around 2016 -17. I noticed in past few months..tbe search tab is gone. There is now way to close the podcast you are listening to.( can only pause or switch to another) and lsome podcasts keep skipping and repeating..after 5 mins of continuous streaming it jumps back to parts of beginning and come back to co tinuation. I hope the bugs are fixed.
Update: see the hints at https:/n.pr/3mY6H5J. Fixed the issue for me. Shame the WNYC devs couldn't be as helpful. ... Sorry guys, on a Galaxy 10 running Android 11, the latest version of your app, 3.0.12, still stops playing as soon as the phone locks itself. Tried setting the timer to trick it to stay alive longer. Lasted about 30 seconds after lock then stopped again. The app isn't crashing per se, but is basically unusable unless you keep clicking on your screen to prevent the phone locking.
I was having the problem of the app crashing upon startup, and reinstalling has helped, at least for now. Hope they fix this soon, along with the problem of the app crashing and losing your place when listening to archived material. Otherwise, I love wnyc and use this app all the time.
Update after several reinstalls it seems to be working now. Android phones are getting Android 11 Pushed to our phones. So once again as it did last year at this exact same time your App is crashing after about 30 seconds on my Samsung Galaxy 10. This requires attention by your technical staff to get your app compatible with Android 11. Reinstalling does not seem to fix it.
The stream keeps on dropping. It occurs without the screen locking. So, you will be listening to a program, it drops and then you have to restart the play. Obviously disruptive and this issue is being experienced by other people in their reviews
I love WNYC. Love it. This app is literally the worst. Stream is generally terrible with long pauses and restarts. Crashes. When I'm not around a radio I remember this app exists and then I am quickly reminded why I never use it.
Every video streaming service works without interruption, but somehow this app that just streams audio is constantly stopping and crashing. Internet radio was done functionally almost 20 years ago at this point, no idea how this app can be so bad.
POS app STILL crashes every 20 to 30 minutes. Tons of complaints for nearly a YEAR but WNYC obviously doesn't care, so eff you, WNYC! No more donations for you! They are enough public radio stations available with good programming and apps that actually works.
As of the 30/10 update the app crashes upon pressing play on the live stream. It's wholly unusable at this point. Android 8.0 EDIT: The stream now plays, but after awhile the app still crashes.
This app is strangely abandoned. It hasn't gotten a new version since before the pandemic. Don't expect the crashes to ever be fixed.
It crashes after about a minute on my Galaxy s8+! The only way to keep this from happening is to tap the screen so that the screen doesn't turn off.
Needs update for consistent steaming It cuts out after just 10 to 15' minutes I have a pixel 3A that runs fast enough I don't see the buffering stall with my iPhone 7 so it has to be the Android WNYC app I hope this gets addressed soon The actual content of WNYC is impeccable Thank you!
This app continually crashes and always in the middle of a news story it seems. Plus there it consistently turns off after 30 minutes.
I am a sustaining member and want this app to be better. Audio is constantly dropping out and requires me to restart or reboot app. I am running on a Samsung S7. Please fix.
Would be better if it could play both WNYC-FM and AM. Also a sleep timer and alarm function would be useful additions.
This app crashes constantly- and this is a relatively new problem for me. Every 30 min or so on my Galaxy. Uninstalled twice. Very frustrating....
WNYC is the best general interest radio I know. Their app is among the worst I've ever had the frustration of using. It crashes constantly, usually in the middle of an item I'm trying to hear, and then reloads its PR message everytime I restart the stream, so I'm constantly missing content I'm trying to hear. Unless you want to keep your device in your hand, it's impossible to hear a complete broadcast without several interuptions. This problem has been long-term and persistent. (Android user)
